@@abigaileldritch me three, help me I’ve been trapped in the oingo Boingo cycle and I can’t get out! Every where I go it’s Oingo Boingo Oingo Boingo it’s following me like a stranger in a alley. Right when I found out about this band I noticed the familiar Elfman. To be honest I’m kinda over it…or am I. Just weird coincidences personally and everything surrounding me pushing me to look more into these guys and seeing how many different people Danny Elfman worked and researching them. You can find a lot of inspiration, I’ve been watching so many Sam Rami (Danny has scored some of his movies) interviews and just the story of how he made the first evil dead is fascinating. Seems so fun. Also thanks for uploading this.

i like older interviews more than new ones, i feel like the hosts have more personality in them. maybe not, maybe its just the quality of the video and audio of older interviews that makes me like them more. who knows, but its always a treat to see mr elfman on the screen lol

No, you're right! There was less political correctness back then, and less fear of offending anyone. More creative freedom to say what you're thinking without consequences. Now it's so P.C. and reserved and fearful and walking on eggshells. There's definitely a huge difference in today's talkshows and interviews vs. 30+ yrs ago.

I compose for smaller theater companies, and I can so relate to the directors who don't know music! They're always impressed, I'll have far more creative freedom to support the play emotionally, and I know I'm not gonna be micro-managed. I know it's gonna be awful when on our first meeting the director hands me a stack of CD's (in the old days) or a song list and says, "Something in this vein, be original, but something with this feel." They always have different ideas than I do about what gives the music the feel it has, and they act like I don't get it when they don't like my prelim demos. What they want is the music they handed me, not an original score. There have been a couple directors who really knew their stuff though. They held me to their directions pretty strictly, but they explained why, and they taught me a great deal about scoring that I didn't already know. I don't know whether they could teach anything to a guy like Danny Elfman (I think they'd be foolish to try), but for a guy like me, I'm much better for it, and I'll work with those directors anytime!

I'm still curious if Danny was ever against the idea of being a composer, or if he wished, in any sense, that he could've done something else. I'm glad he seems to enjoy music creation, but just a thought. Also interesting they played Gratitude before the break. Could've imagined they'd do something more, I don't know, "popular"?

Kinnear took an odd route to be a film actor. First he hosted Talk Soup where he showed a bunch of stupid reality-based clips, then they gave him his own talk show (or moreso take over when Bob Costas left this show and gave him a studio audience). Then they put him in movies for some reason.

I get the feeling Greg is not great at ad-lib. This makes me as uncomfortable as a Dick Cavett interview. Cavett couldn't stop interuppting himself and the guests, but at least he was coming from a position of knowledge. Kinnear comes across as slow and somewhat clueless.

The only song I really adore is the one used at the very beginning of “Back to School”. It is instrumental. If he had listened to the part of heaven a little more, he would have put out more lovely and wonderful music such as this piece. But, he is into the dark side. Very creepy. To waste a great talent on bring out darkness is just a big downer.
