He isn't rejecting England he is rejecting Southgate and his team. He is frustrated. And has been disrespected publicly on multiple occasions for things that have nothing to do with his dedication. Not watching enough Crewe Alexandra or Chelsea reserves games and having a tan. There are players that need to pull their socks up. But Ben white is not one. So he has made a personal decision. Arsenal have a chance to go the distance and getting called up to be publicly flogged is not what he is looking for. But he left it open "at this time" otherwise he would have said "I'm retiring" I thought Ben White is actually are best option for our CB problem. Southgate is on his last life now 100% the board feared sacking him because they think he is responsible for the change in England's fortunes. It's never been Southgate it's been the MASSIVE investment in grass roots that has changed everything. English players are spilling from the bucket into all the top leagues. There should be a natural sense of doing your duty to your country is why. By that rationale, there'd never be any subs. The issue it that BW alleges he was mistreated by staff, which should be the only point of discussion. If he was, then him choosing to sit out is fair enough. Honestly, it seems like Southgate is way of his depth. He should have at least 1 or 2 major international trophies by now. His selections are too often based on who he already has comfortable relationships with and his tactics are dull. He takes the best team in the world and makes them look average. Agree that's exactly what it sounds like, although it may just be that Southgate was told by England Management to be very careful about what he said so he ended up waffling a bit. Found it interesting that he also specifically mentioned Steve Holland - possibly a sign that he is also under orders to protect Steve Holland's position possibly in case FIFA ask for an explanation. Also interesting that Southgate got the news from Edu - again probably Arsenal protecting their own position by making it 100% clear that the club was not preventing BW from being available (which I think would make them liable for action by England / FIFA).

Ben White isn't a soft player like there trying to describe. Every teammate at Arsenal raves about Ben White toughness & mentality. Every Arsenal players first words about him is he's a warrior, Arteta described him as that as well. These aren't just his mates who knew him growing up or his background but players from many different countries & top class players who all identified that quality about him. White debut season for Arsenal when Arsenal were fighting for top 4 back end of the season was playing through a grade 2 hamstring. Always made himself available. This season he's played through knee injuries. Ben White is someone who most of his early childhood was in & out of hospitals, he suffered from an extremely weak immune system, he was always ill, allergic to many things and possibility of having a quality life was slim let alone playing football. He then overcame that, signed by Southampton at age 10, worked his way up before eventually being released at 16. He's very resilient character, who loved playing football. He was then picked up by Brighton, had to work himself up playing league 2, League 1 and Championship. He never got anything easy, never heralded as great talent. He was never picked by England at any of the youth levels. During his loan to Leeds he helped them get promoted to the PL for the first time in 16 years, White played every second of that season. Even then he saw teammate Kalvin Philips get picked while in the championship for England while he didn't get a look in. He then played 1 excellent season in the PL at Brighton when he finally got called up. He only played for Brighton the season before he signed for Arsenal, was always out on loan before then to many clubs. The idea that he didn't want to sit on a bench during a world cup is just flat out not true. No club had issues with Ben White from League 1 loans to championship, to playing in PL and now at Arsenal. League 2 or league 1 clubs are less excepting of a teenager from PL club coming into there changing room with any arrogance or entitlements. England camp is extremely welcoming environment. Ben issue was with specifically with Steve Holland who disrespected him & tried to shame him in front of the group. I think him pretending like nothing happened & just coming back is a sign of weakness, instead he's backing himself even at the expense of media backlash. When Southgate spoke with White post world cup, him saying there was clearly still hard feeling about the issue should tell people it's not about minutes or sitting on a bench. Always Southgate backing his mate Steve Holland by gaslighting the media by saying there's no issue between White and Steve Holland and it's just White is why he doesn't want to play for England.

Don't people get it? He has fallen out with the England staff, staff accused him not integrating into the squad. Then they were digging him out with notes, he and Steve Holland fell out and everyone decided it's best for Ben to leave the squad. Gareth is a LIAR to say there is no problems. The kid wants to play for England but not under this set up. If everyone felt he had to leave the squad then why all of a sudden would he want to play for this manager again and come sit on the bench for a manager and coaching stuff he does not get on with.

1) Kyle Walker could get injured in Quarter finals and White could play massive part as right side of back 3 2) I do not think he gets on with squad 3) I think Holland and White do not get along 4) when England have new coach and set up it is a different story - I think he then will be open to be picked

This conversation is an absolute nonsense. Firstly Benjamin White didn't say he didn't want to play for England, Edu informed that that he didn't wish to be selected at this time. Something has clearly gone on at the World Cup so for Gareth Southgate to come out and say nothing has happened as far as he's aware and doesn't know why there's any apprehension from Benjamin is both cowardly and disingenuous, who would want to play for a manger that wants to preserve themselves and make themselves look good in front of the media than delve into the truth. Why is all the responsibility of the truth coming out being put on the shoulder of Benjamin when it's in the Managers job remit to mange and communicate these situations to the necessary publication. Now in respect to Simon saying if we knew what the issue is would could treat this with more sympathy, well Englands official communication when he left the World Cup squad was "due to personal reason" since then the statement hasn't changed and hasn't been elaborated on, so Simon and all other broadcasters need to be treating this issue with sensitivity as personal reasons have been sighted as to why Benjamin doesn't want to be in the squad. Now talking about he's going to learn and get better being in the England squad. Benjamin Plays in a team that is currently going toe to toe with a great Liverpool team and A World Class Man City team, he trains daily with some world class players and a squad full of internationals under a manger who in most peoples eyes is superior tactically and than Gareth so regardless whether he's in that England Squad or not it would be argued that he's bound to learn more staying with his club than going to England for 2 weeks. The coverage around this has been so disappointing and dangerous, Jim stopped short of threatening a person who's Job requires him to be exposed and judged in front of thousands in stadiums and millions world wide when he said tell us or we're not going to stop. This is no longer reporting but a witch hunt and it's a disgrace it's been allowed to continue! This is getting dangerous now and people need to start to remember their place and level of influence they posses and act accordingly. You're now playing with a young mans career, mental well being and potential physical well being (you can't be sure how people on the street may act after listening to this dross reporting) for entertainment and KZbin clicks.... Ben White is a tremendous player for his club. Arsenal have been competing for 2 seasons now. He is only being asked to go along with the squad. He won’t start any games even if he went. So what is wrong with saying no when you won’t start games. Walker. Trippier. James, Arnold will start before him. Southgate won’t start him as a CB because McGuire is his go to. Ben is simply saying stop wasting my time. I am not coming to sit the bench!

Exactly. Why would you want to be dragged off for a week in Kraplakistan knowing in advance you won't even get one minute because Southgate never drops his favourites, even if they're not playing for their club. Who wants to spend a week away from home with people you don't necessarily like, only to never have your commitment rewarded? Sack that. Be at home with your family, training with your club, sleeping in your own bed and not having to share a hotel room with Jack Grealish or Harry Maguire.

The discussion between them isn't joined up. Ben White says he doesn't want to be called up to sit in a squad whn he doesn't believe he will be called up to play, as Gareth has his favourites. Gareth may well be gone in the next few months. New manager comes in and decides he prefers White to other defenders and makes him first choice....Ben White returns to England squad. It happens all the time at club level, where the turn over of managers is higher.

Note the exact words of Ben White he "didnt wan to be considered for England at this time". This really means "I dont want to be considered for England as long as Southgate and his assistant coach are in charge". totally understandable considering the history between them. Southgate is trying to play the "oh Im the understanding and good guy in this whole fiasco". The reality is quite different. Ben had to leave the World Cup midway through it because of the issues he had with those 2. If it was me, I would not have been so nice about it as Ben White was. To his credit, he has stayed silent rather than stoke up the flames of controversy for the good of the national team. A final point I would like to make is that no one really wants to play in friendly internationals if you have more important fixtures coming up in the future. Why would any good player want to risk injury in order to play a pointless friendly?

Simon Jordan is right, trust is incredibly important in football, he just forgets that trust has to go both ways. Ben White's consistency playing for a top tier Arsenal team proves he's a player that can be trusted, and Arteta is ruthless with who plays for him. His reaction to his first call up makes me believe in his pride and passion for England, but he also doesn't abide any fools. If he thinks the England coaching staff are a bunch of clowns, he's #3 after Walker and TAA at RB, not getting a sniff at CB because Maguire has some blackmail on Southgate or something, I understand not wanting to risk injury in training and all the travel when you got a chance to rest during a title race and UCL.
