Danny Sugerman, biographer of The Doors and Author of many books including Wonderland Ave. for which Ray Manzerak gives Danny's book a plug even here on a video program on the ABC Australia, where normally at that time of night the only people who are watching Rage are SO blitzed out of their minds on the various fashionable drugs of the times or insomniacs that are hardly in the mood to remember the name of the book or even the Author's name, all they can remember if they're lucky are the wild video's to accompany their mind altering experience's. Danny sounds like he had PLENTY of these nights along with Iggy Pop and the various other people were to step into and hopefully out of Wonderland Ave.!
See Mark Devlin's book "Musical Truth Vol. 1" for MUCH more on The Doors, Wonderland Ave. Laurel Canyon and the '60's "Hippies" @ www.amazon.com...

Iggy said he and Bowie were watching TV in Germany and there was a commercial that kept coming on which had a tune playing and it had drums and a melody that Bowie adapted or copied on Ukulele and then told Iggy to finish the song and call it Lust For Life. Sugerman is probably partially correct in that Iggy might not have been able to take the song and run with it had he not been significantly cleaned up with a change in trajectory. The Idiot was a departure from the Iggy’s Stooges work. Bowie was adept at taking art and making it digestible for the masses; it’s what he most admired about John Lennon, who Iggy also met with Bowie during that period.

Danny's writing is fantastic. i suppose having been around folk like Ray, it would have helped him learn to write with the composure and pace that he has, and equal dollops pf informativeness and pure entertainment

Clearly there is part of the story here that Danny is unaware of ... Iggy admits that David Bowie actually came up with the main riff on a little Uke and told Iggy to call it 'Lust for Life' ... so David actually gave the tune to Iggy to finish off and titled it ... not iggy. In their songwriting partnership this was standard back and forth ...

Rikitocker Danny and Ray say on another video that "Lust for Life" is actually a rip off from "Touch Me" by the Doors.
@Rikitocker
@Rikitocker 7 жыл бұрын
They said the beat was like 'Touch Me' ... but remember Iggy finished the song off, David very likely didn't have the beat laid out when he wrote it on a Uke ... so Iggy added his own touches too.

And Hunt Sales (drummer, son of Soupy Sales) will tell you that he never got a red penny of credit for playing the drums on Lust For Life. He more or less equates Iggy to a skidrow crook. A damn shame, really, cause I love Iggy’s music.
