I like your instructional video. You give a lot of value. However it is hard to estimate the capabilities of your Obsidian Setup, if you are new to the topic. Problem is this: Anyone can label it as a "Student Vault", yet no one will know what it actually can do. I think it would be beneficial if you would showcase how your vault actually works and what it is capable of by demonstrating it's standard workflow. With a small teaser like this in the beginning of the video, you could retain more viewers and promote your setup better. (And I would better know which of your Vaults to build lol)

Viewer retention is good for this video. I agree workflow can be helpful. Workflows change and so I avoid showing them in videos on KZbin as they become outdate quickly. Features stay the same 😁

16:00 there is a neater version of the sort that doesn't need nested choices. SORT default(((x) => { "Working":1, "Paused": 2, "To Do": 3, "Done": 4 }[x])(Status), "99") ASC it works by indexing the objext by the value the Status field has and it get's the number of that value back and uses that to sort. if it can't find the value inside the object, it returns 99 and uses that, so it will be always at the end the logic behind it is more complex, but it easier to change and not get wrong than nesting choices and losing track of the ()

You're really supposed to use only one H1 element on a page. If nothing else, multiple main headings on a page confuses the hell out of the search engine crawlers, and dings your SEO rankings (Google recommends an H1 for your page title/content heading; your H1 is effectively telling Google, “Here’s what my page is about.”

It put our mind into the creation mode and made us think how could we integrate in our system or what could else we create watching certain setup and not just passive learning stuff. Thanks😊😊. This looks like SO much work which you need to commit before you even start studying... Is it possible to go with a more "organic" way with obsidian, i.e. start with something small and simple and then grow as you go? Or do you really need to think all that structure beforehand?

Hi Danny, great video again. Thanks. Why do you prefer metadata information in the note body with"::" rather than in the YAML Header?
@DannyHatcherTech
@DannyHatcherTech Жыл бұрын
at the time of making this video it was becuase I didn't like the look of it in yaml and that I felt I understood what it meant. There was also an element of freedom with where I could put it. Now as I use metadata menu, all my metadata is in the YAML.

I gotta a little bit of tricky question, is there any way to add a hotkey for a command made in Commander? I wanna make it easier to access, you know moving the cursor up to the corner is kinda boring =))

All comands in commander should already be available for hotkeys in core obsidian.

Thanks! Great video. It's going to totally overwhelm any obsidian newbie, though. But I do love the information density. Moreover, I learned that "Quickadd: Run Quickadd" exists. Previously, I made 5 different buttons in commander, one for each of my templates 🙂

Very nice job!!! Imagine you have lots of notes with a defined template that uses a specific Class, and you need to update the Class with a new Field. Do we have to update manually each note or is there an option to update all the Notes at once so that they can have the new field?
@DannyHatcherTech
@DannyHatcherTech Жыл бұрын
When you say update. if you mean to add the field so it is on the page, then it needs to be manual. But if you mean update as in have the option to update. that is automatic.

Have you looked into bibnotes? Apparently it makes the process easier and doesn't destroy file contents if you update the file.
@DannyHatcherTech
@DannyHatcherTech Жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with bibnotes as an app. I do know of bib note tools for reference managers. When you say "doesn't destroy file contents", Obsidian doesn't either unless you tell it it can.

@@DannyHatcherTech Let's say you anotate a pdf in zotero, then you import to Obsidian using your templates, then you make notes in obsidian. You go back to zotero and mark more of the pdf. To sync to Obsidian, you must reimport the paper including new quotes using the zotero plugin. By doing so your previous notes in obsidian will be gone and there is no workaround for this as far as I know, is it?
@DannyHatcherTech
@DannyHatcherTech Жыл бұрын
@@pirmin5428 If you change the imported source note yes that is right. I don't change my source note as it is for highlights not work. My work is done in project notes where I am actually writing about the sources. Not sure how bibnotes changes that?

This video and the walkthrough were outstanding, but I am still struggling to run the "Pandoc" (on macOS: I keep getting this error "pandoc: bibliography: with BinaryFile: does not exist (No such file or directory)"). I dont use the plugin for a couple reasons: It has lots of small bugs for me. I need to format my command different. I like the control I get writing my own command. hey Danny, whilst trying to implement your zotero settings, there must be something off, as i get this error in obsidian in the zotero template at line 19: >"" could not be found.< anyway, i was then looking for the link to your repo and found the zotero template which leads to your site and while trying to enter a mail, i get another error, >Account is cancelled and can not accept new subscribers.< perhaps there's something that needs an update ?
