I've been using this for a while now and can vouch for it! I also use the AXC wooden wheel mount for the G29 and Ikea Poang chair. My top tip for anyone using both of these things is this: Put something under the back of your chair so it doesn't bend when you press the brake. I use a foam roller, vertically planted. This means when you press hard on the stiff brake you don't have to take the flex of the chair into account. Makes a difference. Can also say that if you're using the carpet grippers on the G29 pedal board and you weigh more than a pixie you should be fine with anything sliding about.

I’ve had this mod for 10 months now since March 2020. It’s been brilliant and my braking has gone from strength to strength giving a consistent feeling of being able to modulate the braking throughout the braking zones using muscle memory. I use Xbox, mostly F1 and this for the moment at least has stopped me paying out huge for a full Fanatec setup. One day I’ll go to PC and upgrade bit by bit but this can’t be beaten bang for buck for around £60 while doing the same job to a load cell without actually being a load cell, clever:) On top of that it is also a quality and well built product. If Logitech had made and sold their G29/920 etc with a similar brake setup to this then I think the whole setup would have been so much more of a better and competitive package and it would’ve gained more respect on the market 👍🏻

A huge improvement over the stock. Those spacers are actually to adjust the amount of travel the pedal moves to where the brake actually begins engaging
@robbos32453 жыл бұрын
Got this mod on Wednesday and really struggled at first but had my second session last night and am starting to get competitive times but still feels quite weird making sure I put enough pressure down but in some ways it forces me to brake harder and later. One thing I did with my G29 was to put my old brake predal spring into my accelerator pedal because having virtually zero resistance with my throttle but lots in my brake was hard to adjust to and it made a difference very quickly. I initially put the rubber block in there too but that was a tad too much resistance but still workable.
@melv453 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review Danny - my Truebrake arrived on Saturday and after a few hours of testing I am startling to get used to it. Very different to the standard G29 brake feel. I started off with the biggest spacer so virtually zero free travel before activation. I found this too much and settled on the 2nd smallest. This helped the activation point for me as its hard to press (my pedals are angled slightly) If anyone is thinking of this i would recommend it but with a few cautions. You will probably need a strong, fixed rig to allow you to press the pedal down and It will take some getting used to straight after the standard pedals. I have gone faster though already and feel like i am (trail) braking better and actually braking less in places as its easier to modulate, telemetry backs this up but i need to practice. Its very well built and easy to fit so well worth the £

Small update. I changed the brake force slider in iracing. From standard G29 pedals it was set to 1.8 and i have been running that since the Truebrake mod. Changed this tonight and it feels better. Easier now to find a 50% brake or less. Danny may have already had this off/reduced if he switched from loadcell pedals as that is the default setting for non-potentiometer pedals. I have also ordered the Leo Bodnar USB cable as apparently there is a large curve at the end of the pedal stroke sent from the wheelbase firmware and this cable removes this and makes the travel more linear.

I was really impressed with the Truebrake. I still upgraded to the V3's after 3 months, and it was at that point I realised just how good the Truebrake mod was. The V3's feel obviously more premium, and robust, but in terms of modulating the brake with pressure the Truebrake really closes the gap between these two brake pedals. Definitely recommend it!
@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
That's exactly my thoughts having used V3's for a good long while now, Truebrake does legitimately do a good job of giving you a diet version of it. When spending £200+ on an actual load cell pedal set is out of the question, get a Truebrake.

I also bought the TrueBrake a couple months ago to be used with the Playseat Challenge. 'lift off' is a real issue because of the force needed for full braking. I fixed it with the combination of counterweight (weight on the 'front legs'), cantilever (a board that goes under the 'back legs' and over the 'front legs' effectively extending the 'back legs')and increasing the 'angle of attack' by lifting the back of the seat and the pedals. The pedal mount broke off soon after so is now just held together with a bit of paracord. lol. Aside from that, good bit of kit. I wouldn't go back to the stock brake after getting used to this. In a way, this is better that the actual LC mod available for the G29 since this plugs straight into the pedal board/base unit and so can be used natively on consoles unlike the Richmotech. My Playseat Challenge looks like a PoS now but wouldn't change it for the world. I now lovingly call it my 'Playseat Challenged'. This mod makes me want to try inverted pedals since my feet naturally want to press the bottom of the brake pedal, don't know why. I use it exclusively for GT Sport, btw.
@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
One thing that I noticed was that because I was using a lot more force than the seat's obviously designed for, the central spine would flex and bow in the middle. Easily resolved but more on that at some stage.

Great to hear your thoughts as a longer-time user than me, I only had a brief time with it but comparing it to my V3's told me all there was to know. Braking is easier with a fixed chassis but everything that can be done to limit movement when you press the brake pedal will pay off in consistency.

Looks like a good product. I couldn't easily get hold of one last autumn, so I use garden wire (thick, green from ASDA/Walmart) to hold down the pedal to the obvious point where the travel resistance increases. Drill holes in the top 2 plastic buttons at the top of the pedal, thread the wire up through one and back down through the other hole. The wire then loops round the back of the pedal box and wind it around a hex frame screw under the pedal box (there's an obvious hole to use) to secure it. I then adjust the tension and Windows calibration range to about 55-255. A Bodnar cable (using its calibration software) increased this range to 300-750. Pedal movement range reduced from 4.5cm to 1.5cm with good increasing resistance through this travel. Happy man.
@brayans28593 жыл бұрын
What about the Logitech software? From my understanding the Logitech software makes it so that at around 50% pedal depression it applies 100% brake force. This is their "fix" for the rubber piece within the brake being so hard that it's impossible to depress it more than 50-60%. I removed the rubber piece which made the pedal feel much better, but I haven't found a way around the software to allow 100% depression to equal 100% brake force. The Logitech software simply doesn't allow enough travel in the pedal for accurate braking, the difference between say 20% brake force and 100% feels like a few millimeters. How does the brake mod fix this problem?

I can't see any reason why not - the device isn't aware of which pedal you have it affixed to - so long as the 'brake' cable is plugged into it, your system will read it as a brake pedal

@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
The cockpit used here was a spare from a bargain bundle I got with the G29 but if I'm honest I wouldn't recommend it, it flexes way too much especially with a Truebrake. If you watch closely you'll see the wooden chocks I put underneath the pedal plate to stop the flex. My main cockpit up until this weekend was the GT Omega ART which was actually pretty good: amzn.to/3pF6iWh

CSL Elite LC are too cheap to be messing around with modding potentiometer pedals. And they're a proper all metal construction. Okay so not everyone can afford them but if you can't afford $230 how are you going to afford $60?

TIL that $60 = $230, that'll be handy in the future. But really man, com on. I don't want to spend just as much on only a pedal set as I did for my entire setup. I can afford $230 pedals, I just don't want to spend the money. For some people we just want the smallest financial investment into it as possible while still getting a good experience.
@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
I see your point but don't forget about console racers that can't mix and match between Logitech/Fanatec, and a 1.5x improvement for £60 is better value per pound than a 2.0x improvement for £230 even if it might not get quite the same on-track results

Sim racing is just a hobby for me. I can afford $230 pedals but I can't justify $230 pedals. Same reason I'm using a G29 and not a DD wheel. I wish there was a version with more travel and more of a linear feel. Kind of getting disappointed every time I get behind the wheel, because it doesn't give me the feel of actually driving a car. More like playing a Video Game.
@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, because my experiences are the opposite - I've had a good handful of chances to take proper racecars for a spin (experiences and scholarship comps etc) and they all have one thing in common - the brake pedals are FIRM. Road car brakes are soft and easy to press because they don't need to be precise, just accessible for everyone whether you're a 25 year old gym fiend or a 90 year old granny with twigs for legs. Stick with it man, especially if you've not had it for long. I remember it feeling super weird having to press hard to do my brakes but when I acclimatised it made the world of difference to consistency.

Do you need a Leo Bodnar cable for this to work correctly? Or is the true brake alone plug and play? (I'm on PC) Hoping to get one of these when funds allow
@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
No leo bodnar or extra cables needed - Plug and play, it connects to the existing wiring, couldn't be simpler.
It works without the LB cable, but I highly recommend that cable. For the little cost, the cable increases the resolution of the G29 pedals hugely, smooths out the inputs for better control and you can remove the aggressive brake curve in the firmware to help reduce locking up in hard braking zones.

I highly recommend getting the cable. Full disclosure, I haven't actually gotten my Truebrake yet, should arrive sometime this week, but I got my Bodnar cable today and I've been trying it out for the last few hours. I can definitely tell you that the feel of the pedals is massively improved, braking is a LOT more consistent and I started improving lap times immediately. Seeing as the feel is already so much better, I absolutely can't wait to get my new brake and put it all together.

I’ve inverted and hard mounted my pedals to the concrete wall in my living room they feel so much better inverted and super sturdy. was just concerning getting this mod but your comments put me off. I think the g29 brake has a really good feel for the price and don’t really feel like I need to apply much more pressure to get to 100% than in my real car. Think Logitech have done a good job so I’m just going to keep it stock
@ThexGreatxLTS3 жыл бұрын
@@realtalk9195 For what it’s worth, my pedals are just on carpet so perhaps hard mounted will prevent any “slop” or pressing the pedal set into the carpet more. I have been messing with Assetto Corsa’ brake Gamma and I have improved it, but will take getting used to. Apparently this “Leo Bodnar” adapter cable really helps the brake curve, but the cost probably puts you into “just spend a bit more on better pedals” territory. I also agree that the normal Logi pedal is great and I think I’m going to switch back to stock until I can set up a proper hard mounted set up.

I only use ps4 or ps3 with my g29, and so only really gran turismo titles. I am told that, as you can't adjust the braking amount in these games, this mod will actually prevent you from achieving 100% brake force. Has anyone got this tried it with these particular games, and can verify one way or another?

@@andylee2174 Thanks Andy. So how do you get the shorter travel of the Tru Brake to register 100%, being that you can't adjust the system in Gt5 & 6? From what i was aware, logitech have their own built in software that requires the pedal to be pressed so far to register that for these games....
@andylee21743 жыл бұрын
@@sag2974 there comes different hardness of bushings with the kit so you can adjust the travel. @davidetherington25673 жыл бұрын
I’ve had mine since last summer on an Xbox. Most games will allow you to adjust the travel from the in game settings so it’s not much of an issue even on console. The only game I’ve not been able to adjust is the original Assetto Corsa but even that hasn’t caused much of an issue. Well worth the upgrade, I wouldn’t go back but worth noting my pedal set is firmly bolted to a Playseat Challenge..

@@Sighman ok, thank you very much for this. May I ask for just one clarification? So it is not possible to adjust the stiffnes of this mod in any way, there is only one setting?

@@phaedrussocrates7636 Not the stiffness, no. Only how far the pedal goes before braking begins to occur.
@dannyleeracing3 жыл бұрын
I used to be a sock-racer, until I got my current Fanatec Clubsport V3's and then I just couldn't press them without hurting my feet. Now I use thin-soled shoes and funnily enough I wouldn't go back to socks. It's weird considering a year ago I would have been socks 'til I die. But it's definitely the case that with the G29's pedals being really soft/light as standard, wearing shoes makes it a lot harder to feel the pedals.
