What do you do when the attic is finished and you can’t access the top like this?

The fart fan vent is the number one cause right there. Shower steam and no ventilation in the attic

Hi, I have a quicky for you. I have black dry stain in between rafters on the roof plywood in my attic and around each nails coming through this normal? In some areas look like the plywood is burn wood how can I clean his? thanks Hon
@DanRedden5 жыл бұрын
A couple of things on this..... First off.....if you have black staining around the nails in the attic, you probably have a condensation problem. The black staining is an indication that the nails and/or plywood around the nails develop moisture.....most likely in the winter month when the roof/roofing materials are ice cold. The dark staining around the nails is mold likely from oxidation. If you have a larger spot that is dark, it may be mold...... You can use product like GMP Mold and Mildew Stain Remover which can be found at www.moldstainsgone.com The thing to be cognizant of when using commercial grade stain removers is that they can be very strong.....and it is important to use proper PPE when applying them.

Curious about the 10 year warranty on the white coating. Does that cover mold regrowth on the coating or just cracking peeling etc?
@DanRedden4 жыл бұрын
The product warranty covers regrowth on the applied coating surface.

My father says that the reason that my basement in my house downstairs is cold because the air ducts are blocked and there might be mold in the air ducts. Is what he is saying true?
@DanRedden5 жыл бұрын
Silvia, I apologize for the late reply. I highly recommend reaching out to a highly rated Air Duct Cleaning company in your area to inquire about these questions. I suppose that air ducts could potentially get blocked if something falls down a vent opening or a cold air return opening....in terms of mold growth in the ducts....mold breaks down organic material. If your ducts are full of dust, dirt, and debris it is possible for there to be mold in the lines. You can have those lines cleaned out and in some instances contractors will apply products that can help eliminate mold in the lines. Kindest Regards

i saw in one of your previous videos there was still mold even with the soffit styrofoam baffles installed, why would this be the case?
@DanRedden5 жыл бұрын
If there was mold in a shot or scene where a baffle was still installed it would mean that you would have been at the juncture in the video dealing with the "before remediation" phase. When we begin a remediation project that has baffles installed, our technicians would remove the baffles to access the affected surfaces below. If the question is, why mold would grow in attics where baffles had previously been installed....the answer is simple....and yet can be multifaceted. Baffles alone are not a sure fire way to prevent condensation in an attic. Baffles are a tool within an overall plan to keep an attic space dry. Many other underlying deficiencies can lead to such problems. Some of the more common problems: bath exhaust fans blowing into the attic, blocked soffets, not enough soffet vents, not enough upper ventilation on the roof, not enough insulation, excessive penetrations in the ceiling below the attic (ie can lights)......and many many more things. We have found that most homes with a condensation problem in the attic have multiple issues that accumulate into a larger problem.....ultimately leading to mold growth!

I have the same problem. i had a company insulate my attic back in 2014. My attic has fiberglass insulation on the roof rafters and what they did was put cellulose on the floor but left the fiberglass insulation on the roof. Also they did not put any baffles so this year while cleaning my son's room, when i moved one of the bookselves from the wall, i saw water damage from the ceiling all the way down to the floor. I thought it was roof leak but when i called another company, they said it was condensation due to no baffles and poor insulation completely sealing the attic. They are charging me about $6500 to remove the fiberglass from the roof rafters and redo the insulation. is that reasonable with fixing this?
