This is one of the best versions of this song I ever heard. Him and colter wall share the number 1 spot with rambling jack Elliot hot on their tail

Jack Elliot gotta be number one.he was first. Dylan did a version...hard to find
@Headshot514232 ай бұрын
@@harpandblooz7733I personally think Dylan’s version from the bootleg series is the best version of this song, but I’m also biased as a Dylan fan lol. Surprisingly there’s a version that was recorded for the video game Far Cry 5 that is pretty good as well.

Don't understand why people like you can't just enjoy a song without bringing up other artists. They're 1000 great versions of this song.

@@harmondraws We're music lovers, and we like variety. No need to get your panties in a twist. Listen to Colter Wall's version and you'll see what I mean.

I am pretty sure I heard Lightning Hopkins do this song... at the San Diego folk festival in 73 or 4... then he told a couple of poor boys the story of a Lightning fast pen knife... in the hands of a jealous man... Lightning fast
@richardcarew47083 жыл бұрын
he also told us that he borrowed the name from the original guy.. who was doing 99 years for murder... there is nothing better than pickin and grinnin... swatting flies and swapping lies... especially with a really good story teller.. Mr Paxton... thank you so very much for sharing your music brother

This song predates Bob Dylan and Joan Baez who had covered it in the early sixties. I’ve just started to get into Mr. Paxton as an artist. I think he’s great, I certainly dig the style..

Played in Open D style, so it'll be something like D-F#-G-D-A-D. Should be able to work out listening to it with that in mind. It's good to learn by listening!
