@@XxHappyEmo2xX I don't get what I said to prompt you coming across to me in that fashion. I do "get" that we don't own any kind of music and said nothing to imply that I had those kind of feelings. Sometime around 1957, I saw my first performer live. His name was Johnny Cash. I just stood by the stage and watched Johnny and his Tennessee Three (including Luther!). I recently read an article about Colter Wall in the New Yorker magazine. I found him online and can’t stop listening to him. I think that he is unique. I love his voice and his finger-picking! He soon will be performing in Des Moines, and I want to go see him in person like I did with Johnny Cash, so there might be two old people in the audience!!

Exactly how Is this heartbreaking? This makes very little sense? Your sad he's alive? Your sad he's good? Your sad he's around? Should he be dead now because he's good? Your sad because your child likes someone that's alive? Cringe af, I'd love an answer on why colter being alive and great and your child liking him is heartbreaking? It's sad to see my son get into waylon Jennings, johnny cash etc big time around 3, and around 5 find out all his heros are dead and you see a little man getting the news and crying real tears for someone they only knew from there music. But when he found out Mr.wall was quite alive he ask me to get on Y.T often and see if he's got something new. He's quite a fan. That's not sad.he has something to look forward to.

You sir, have a gift from the Universe and I hope it will not bring you suffering and despair, as it so often does to those who gain fame and fortune. You may have 60 years of amazing, productive musical career ahead of you; or you may decide at some point that you've had enough of country music, or blues, or folk, or music in general, and do something else. You are a young man and you deserve to do what is best for YOU. The MOST IMPORTANT thing, is that YOU keep yourself well, and happy and everything else is secondary. In any event, your music is astoundingly good, a real gift to humanity. Live long and prosper Mr. Wall.

I had been complaining about the state of modern country for nearly ten years before I discovered a whole treasure trove of incredible artists on the outskirts of that pop garbage. I grew up in a household where my mother listened to 90s country and "oldies" and a father that loved rock. I discovered Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in my late teens, of course, because they were so damn famous and liked them well enough. I didn't know I truly loved country until my late-twenties exposed me to a lot of pre-70s country, blues, folk, and bluegrass. Once I discovered this, I went mad...searching for everything I had missed. Something in it speaks to my Scots/Irish roots. Come to find out through DNA, both sides of my family moved slowly west through WV, TN, KY, and arrived in Indiana around the 30s and 40s. I always wondered why I grew up hearing so much Appalachian slang from all my family members, while the few people I had met from those states talked as if it's all contained/unique to that region. I literally ignored my own culture for too long and I missed out. Anyway, it's great to know that these musical traditions are still being explored and grown by so many talented people. It'd be great to hear the good stuff on the radio, but they prefer Taylor Swift's inability to have a mature relationship I guess.

I no longer bear witness to a sun that is rising. I come at the day when it has ripened and decided on its weather. I come hard awake when birds have told the sky to cloud, when brick-and-squeal train depots have cleared of their thundering rushes, when ivy has twined and twined around our necks while we weren’t looking. (A bit of a poetry inspired by a day listening Colter do his thing.)

Colter brings the 1937 00-17 into the 21st Century with a growl! Definitely unique, with his style of singing as well as his picking. I first heard him compliments of Pandora, and have since scoured KZbin with great satisfaction. Johnny Cash? Waylon Jennings? Nope! It's just Colter Wall carving deep new space in the grand tradition of country/folk music. Kate McCannon receives an A++++++!

I freaked when I learned he was a true Canuck. I was listening to Johnny Cash and Louis Armstrong do Blue Yodel #9, saw a reference to Colter Wall in the comments. Listened to Thirteen Silve Dollars, LOVED IT. On the third listen, I caught the line "letter RCM&P". GOOD GRIEF!! What a Canada Day that discovery made for me. His future is global, I hope to see him before the rest of the world learns about him.....but his Thirteen Silver Dollars video has over 2 Million hits.....

That first song, I had no clue this man can really fingerpick guitar well. I wasn't watching, listening only and looked to see who was playing guitar with him;;; but it was just Colter. Nicely done.
