For extra context, “Danse Macabre” by Camille Saint-Saëns was the soundtrack to Spookslot, Efteling’s iconic walkthrough haunted house show that stood at this new ride’s location from 1978 until it was demolished in 2022. For many Dutch people, the original ride and the musical piece were fully interlinked, so when it was first anounced that Spookslot would be torn down, people were very disappointed and sad. When its replacement turned out to be fully themed and based on the symphony, with the ride feeling almost like the next-level evolution of Spookslot’s experience, people got excited again. Wonderful to see that Danse Macabre seems to be a worthy successor.
@titatoverteefje8168Ай бұрын
Only downside of the soundtrack on this ride is that it gets cut off right on the best part 2:00 when the most impactfull part of the orginal Danse Macabre track was going to start. And gets replaced by a weak violin part. Its such a masterpiece but they managed to cut off the best part.... Honestly feels like a trailer/remix of what the Danse Macabre soundtrack used to sound like on the Spookslot version. Its rushed from the intro directly into the climax on this ride. They couldve done more with it.

The synergy of soundtrack, lighting, meticulous theming, and genuinely inventive ride hardware here is precisely what elevates a dark ride from mere attraction to immersive art. I’d wager the camera probably fails to entirely capture the full grandeur. Splendid work. 👌👏👏
@jarmoliebrand2005Ай бұрын
The camera probably won’t do it justice. There’s probably more to see than we can see through this POV. The attraction looks really spectacular. I don’t think I’ll ever fully get over Spookslot’s removal, but this looks like the more than worthy successor. Especially with all the elements that returned. What caught my eye the most was the conductor. What a spectacular animatronic. There were plans for such an animatronic when they built Spookslot, but the technology wasn’t there yet. These sublet movements are just so sublime. He looks exactly like Ton van de Ven’s concept art. The overall atmosphere in and around the abbey look great too. Last time I was in the park, the showbuilding was mostly finished, but in its completed state, it looks even better.

Experienced it today in real live and honestly, despite you filming at the best as you could, it doesn't capture the magic of being *in* there. The sound design (especially with the monster in the darkness at the beginning) is amazing, the ride system itself is just pure fun, and despite not being *scary* it does have a eerie atmosphere (in a good way). I'm a big time Efteling lover and this ride is a fantastic addition to this wonderful park + even tho Spookslot (the original attraction on this location) has a place in my heart, this definitely is a worthy successor.

I'd say the Efteling is the best themed* park in the world. And im biassed as heck. Im Dutch, the Efteling is my home park and ive been visiting since childhood. However, best park overall just has to go to Europapark... Why? Just the sheer number and quality of the rides there, and thats ultimately what a themepark is about. But Efteling and Europapark work together. They share many ideas and a season pass with either park gives you free tickets to the other. Isnt that nice? And they are very far away from each other so there isnt any competiton between the parks. In my opinion both parks really represent the hope for the future of themeparks in general. Both parks are fully independant. The Efteling is run by its own foundation and is essentially a non-profit organisation, and Europapark is of course privately owned and operated by the Mack family. This means both parks are in full control of everything and dont have corporate overlords to awnser to or shareholders to please. And it shows!

Dang, this looks awesome and love the use of many animatronics in this dark, gorgeous abbey! Projection mapping is used just right here! I went to Efteling for my first time last year when this was still a steel structure. I guess my only lament is that, just judging from the video, you can see the conductor really well but you can't see the other animatronics as easily. But I'm sure that video doesn't do this ride much justice! Efteling always knocks it out of the park, and it's very intriguing to me that what would normally be a flat ride is completely enclosed with elaborate theming and complete show scenes. Well done, Efteling!!

Do it! I put off going for years due to the lack of an elite thrill coaster, but even despite that it's everything a theme park should be. Immersive, beautiful landscaping, good ops, no skip the line full stop, reasonable food and drink.
@jarmoliebrand2005Ай бұрын
@@pjw1993I personally don’t think Efteling needs an elite thrill coaster. I’d love to see something surpass Baron akkenakkenekenen :) as the premier thrill ride, but I don’t think Efteling needs massive thrills. But I believe they would have more options now than they had before. Efteling had to build below a certain height, but I believe that limit it raised for new plots of land they’ve purchased.

@@jarmoliebrand2005 Oh yeah, having been now I 100% agree. It was more a case of that's what held me back in the past. We don't need a Zadra, but something on the level of Taron or FLY, super immersive, would go down a treat.

@@pjw1993 Yeah. I agree. A next level thrill coaster, beyond Baron 1898 would do well. But the Efteling doesn’t need anything record breaking. The park would do spectacular things with the theming. I’d say it’d probably be a launched coaster and/or an inverted coaster. The park doesn’t have either.

Oh wow! Before I even give thoughts on the ride which looks amazing, as a classical music nerd who is a huge fan of this piece composed by Camille Saint-Saens, I was low key hoping this was the music that was chosen when you said the name of the ride previously. What a very thoughtful edit for time by the creative team at the park to manage to make the cuts seamless whilst still keeping the most climactic parts of it. I’d be very thrilled to have this at a stateside park. Ride system looks interesting, the set up reminds me of a mad house but the vehicle is a very interesting flat with the spinning gondolas. So grateful for the content as always, I just had to comment on this one.❤ Glad to see Charlotte made the trip, sending best wishes to you both.

I went on it during the yearpass holder previews. And it was amazing! From the waiting line till the ride itself is topnotch! The way the ride operators act. The way the soundscape is added to the queue. The theming in the queue and the ride itself is smooth and it actually felt like a dance. But still powerfull and i felt some g's. Not strong but its there. The hall itself is gigantic and its way bigger than i expected there, the organ instrument in the hall is so big and was amazed by how big it was and theres scent effects inside the hall. The drop was nice and kinda unexpected. It Looks like a worldclass ride and handsdown one the better Efteling rides and an experience i never saw/felt before in a themepark. But theres only one small downside. 1:59 this cut of the Danse Macabre soundtrack. It is such a masterpice but the part next to it honestly made the song. Basically everything that is left of the Spookslot music version is the intro, and climax sadly, Wished i couldve heard more of it. The added choir in the end is nice tho.
