Ive kept them at 70 degrees with Dojo loaches, zebra danios and other cooler water tropicals. It went very well for me and they grew huge. Right now I have another batch in a tank with some Amazon fish so I have them at about 78. Good to hear that won't cause them any issues.

These are among the most beautiful tropical fishes in the world. I have seen them in the Periyar river Kaladi. I have also seen a similar barb with a thick gold and black line from the eyes to the tail and nearly 6 inches long in a lake in Himachal Pradesh. I think there are many striped barbs but this one is the most beautiful of them all.

Hi Dan, they are known as ""miss Kerala" here. I have seen them few years ago at the start of river' Achenkovil'(also the place name). I do have the pictures of the habitat. The water was pretty clear with lots of rocks and yellowish gravel/sand and lots of pebbles at a depth of 1-2 meters where i saw them. The flow would really depend on the season/monsoon but you would get an idea from the pics. drop me a mail i will forward it to you. vishnu.nair@outlook.com

Thanks for a very informative video, am just about to take the plunge & order 50 for my refurbish 600g tank where they will be the centerpiece fish. Continue to be a little puzzled about the correct tempreture. Have read they are a subtropical fish that need slightly lower tempreture than your normal tropicals, and highly oxygenated water. Yet l see some people keeping them with Discus & they look healthy. Was hoping to add my Gymogeophagus who certainly need a cooler winter period.

I have some south American cichlids, pictus catfish, pearl gourami and a senegal bichir. Do you think a group would do ok with them? I have a 65gal
@DansFish
@DansFish 4 жыл бұрын
I think adult roselines would do okay with the pearl gouramis. I've seen bichirs take down pretty large fish, so I'm not sure a full grown (20") senegal bichir would be safe. Also, some of those SA cichlids get pretty big...depends on what species you have. Same with the pictus cats...some species get pretty big.

Howdy Joshua, Congrats on the new fish. In all honesty, I have no idea. If they are new, I would give them a couple of weeks to settle in. If they have settled in, it could be a different line that has different color, it could be a difference in diet, it could be mood, it could be illness, it could be stress. I wish I could help you, but I would just be guessing.

Just like you the first time I seen them blew my mind also. I have a question if you don't mind answering. I have a 40gl fluval profile tank, it's a rather high tank and about 24 long, 24 high, 18 depth. It's also generously planted. For live stock I have Otos, albino plecos, cardinal tetras, gouramis and zebra danios, all small species. Can I add 6 or 12 of these to my community tank with out worrying about compatibility? I realize that you mentioned 55gl tanks but I only have space for a 40gl, would this be a problem? Thanks and great video.

Thomas, I'm not sure. I read conflicting reports. Here is a scholarly report from a university on their breeding. However, they were induced with hormones. I've seen some vids of them breeding in aquariums...looks like they breed like your average barb. I have a question about the Roseline Sharks, I have a school of seven in my 125 gal tank, I have had them for at least 5 years and they are about 4 1/2" + in length. One of the sharks coloration has changed recently, all of the color is the same except the area above the redline that goes through the eye on the head this area which I am calling his cap is turning a greenish blue color. Have you ever heard if this, only one of mine has this new coloration.
@DansFish
@DansFish 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Beau, I wish I could help, but I have never seen that. When the fish are young they do not have the roseline. When they are stressed, they line can diminish in brightness or seem to disappear, but I have never seen just the area you describe changing independently of the rest of the line. I sincerely hope nothing is wrong. Perhaps someone else will read this and be able to help you better than I can. Best, Dan
@beau4269
@beau4269 6 жыл бұрын
It was not the line it was the area above the line and it does not appear to be a health issue as all its color is good and it is very active. It is just the area has a greenish blue iridescence that none of my other do, I was talking to a local fish store and they thought it might be a sex thing as in it is a male. Don't know will have to keep looking.

So a case can be made that the hobby actually has SAVED the species? It is amazing to me that they exist AT ALL in the wild considering the MASSIVE water pollution and habitat loss in India.
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it is not just in India. It is in widespread. In the USA, we have wiped out many species due introduced species and habitat destruction. Florida water ways look more and more like Amazon water ways year by year. When a fish catches on in the hobby and is bred in large numbers, like these Roseline Barbs, it can literally save the fish from disappearing of the face of the Earth.
