I love learning the history of northern England. I’m Canadian and we don’t really cover much of UK history but I live in Edinburgh now. I visited York last year to take part in Touch Mudder and found it a beautiful city and enjoyed learning some of its history while there. So I’m glad to have watched this docuseries to learn a lot more!

My English ancestors mostly came from the north (Yorkshire and Lancashire). Watching this video has instilled a great deal of pride in these people who refused to be conquered in spirit. I’m both angry and sad that the people of the north who suffered deeply at the hands of rulers who lived in the south and who didn’t appear to even try to understand them and their concerns.

@@j.4354 the same happens here in New South Wales, Sydney gets everything and if it doesn't happen there the rest of the state can 'go hang'. If they have to come over 'the sandstone curtain' they think they've gone to another country. There's more to my state than just Sydney but then again I suppose it's the same in every other state in Australia with their capital cities

@@j.4354 there's so much to see out here in the west also there's nowhere near the traffic. We live in Bathurst, we're on a hill and can look across paddocks and the river and see the CBD. I can be in town in 5 minutes. One daughter lives 35 k from us and we can be there in 20 minutes. Love the country life. My brothers can have life in Sydney, it's nice to visit but I don't want to live there

I’m proud to be a northerner, (Lancashire) and proud that we’ve always been fierce and unafraid to stand and fight for what we believe in. We still have less money and massive inequalities compared to the south, but Northerners are the best people (even southerners think we’re friendlier).

Thank you so much to give some credit to the amazing people of the Normans. When we analyze their history without any national prejudice, we realize how great they were, and why they thrive in such a ruthless time. I wish other nations could also be given the credit they deserve. English people are Anglo-Norman, even if they do not like it, they are more Norman than any other country, since many continental Normans, after losing their continental possessions to the French went to England. English people need to know what the Normans accomplished in the World. They were hard, brave, intrepid, ruthless, great conquerors and explorers. Medieval knights needed to be like that otherwise they would have perished. Normans were no different to other European knights with respect to ruthless, actually the French were even worst. Among the Normans were also merchants, architects, engineers, and other intellectuals that have gave advances in Literature, Science, or Politics. Evil does not know of frontiers, every People have their own, but it is not fair either to lie a black cloak above all them and depict them all as evil. That is propaganda.

This is the issue we've been a multi ethnic regionalist collection of cultures for 2000 years if not more. It's funny to think that England used to be just as much of melting pot as America is today. How we think America doesn't really have it's own culture or traditions, that's probably how England was in the 1100s. There were German, French, Anglo-saxon, Viking, and Roman influences but not really an 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝 culture. It took hundreds of years to form that. Partly due to the advancements and revolutions it went through. But younger countries that are made of immigrants and invaders, don't have have that development of culture.
