VW transaxles are so strong and good but they get neglected so often. People forget to check the gear oil and change it when needed. They put all their attention on the motors. Btw; as per the service manual the Bowden tube needs to have a little curve to it for the clutch cable to operate properly.

@@vayabroder729 Yes they are strong, and I will look into that information about the bow in that tube.

@@TimsWorkshopTJY oh yeah… caught fire… got really hot, who knows what happened to that transmission. Best to test first.

Caught fire? didn't see that on the video. engine was a bit rough but ran and the tranny worked good from what I saw.

@ A while back, I quit posting videos for a while. While I stopped, I purchased the car. I didn’t record any of the first appearances of the car. But, it had caught on fire. The carb was melted into the intake. It was that bad. I made the engine in it run, and actually drove the car around the yard to get the clutch unstuck. When I tried to rebuild that engine, all the case studs pulled because the case got so hot it warped. And somebody jumped up and down on the roof. It was a genuine mess I can tell you that.

@ That engine is a completely different engine from what came in the car. I rebuilt it in one of my videos. It doesn’t run correctly because it has the wrong carb on it.

which makes me wonder on how my 40hp will run with a old 36hp carb for testing?

Hmmm. In 1970 I bought a 64 with a bad transmission. Not really bad. Under the inspection plate under the rear seat was a loose gear shift connector. I tightened it up and had a fully functioning transmission.

Yeah the shift bushings or connections can make you think it's bad.
