Good luck Grey Sky. The fabulous thing about any country look is that imagination and creativity go far. Reinvent, upcycle, thrift and fleamarket shop. You'll get the best and cheapest results that way. French style is curvy, utilizes black metal, accessorizes with shutters, open shelving, country fabrics, anything blue, like cornflower blue, old pottery and so on. Prayers are with you. S

It would be a treat to have her go into even more detail with accompanying pictures. But this was a very thorough well-thought out vlog to introduce the uninitiated. I have all the elements she described ...but also very eclectic furniture from Indonesia and Dutch Colonial antiques, as well as a lot of Chinese furniture and antiques ...so I guess my style is just eclectic. I love the stone cladding idea to add more French-country feel to the house.

Really enjoyed the video. We live in a converted barn in rural Berkshire in the UK, built at the end of the 19th century. We have incorporated several provencal elements combined with classic English antiques and it creates the same effect but grounded in the UK. We have limestone and oak floors on the ground floor and oak upstairs, exposed oak beams and soft white walls with colour added through textiles, art and ceramics. It really is a versatile style that can be adapted to incorporate the local vernacular. ❤

@teresacarle294 Жыл бұрын
😊 Prefer the warmth of wood🪵. Wooden plank floors are so timeless. Tile flooring is such major 🎲🎲 gamble 🎰 in my experience. 👁👁Seen many instances of even pricey💸 tile that looked tacky & dated in short order😱. Plus, most folks in LA wouldn't spare the extra 💰expense for under floor heating. Although we get relatively mild Winters here (dropping to🌡30s F, & hovering in 50s F)〰️I've frozen🥶 in bathrooms & kitchens here with tile on the floor. Plus, the grout can be a beast to keep clean. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

I built a Greek pilloried Georgian home. Complete with nine over nine floor to ceiling windows, and French doors throughout. Also, six chandeliers, five wood burning fireplaces. Chaise lounges, cane bed commissioned in France, and all things French in the furnishings. Lace curtains from Paris behind gorgeous satin taffeta drapes. My floors in the common areas, such as, the lounge, kitchen, butler’s pantries, and utility room, were hand laid used brick. In the dinning room there was a French walnut table taken straight from France, to the dock, to my home! The morning room had a family heirloom black seven layered enamel oval table, and commissioned black tall ladder back chairs. The nine foot curtains in a ten foot high ceiling were red and white cotton gingham with small black ball fringe trim. Of course, White marble with black granite diamonds was the rigor diem for formal entrance. He library floor was covered in “Persian” like carpet…. I personally mixed all of my colors, including trims. They were the perfect backdrop for a mix of American Southern, French interior. After my husband died, it was better for me to move from my gated community with its large separation of homes with land. But, my heart stays true to my “magnum opus”, and hope to do another home, perhaps French Provincial with a mansard roof! Thank you for your wonderfully English preciseness in this presentation. Bon Voyage on your next trip! Hope you have just the right great French finds!♥️🌟

What would you say are the main home decor differences between French Country/Provincial vs English Country/Cottage besides color scheme? I see a lot of overlap between the two-including some of furniture, accessories, materials, prints/patterns.
@dantierandbalogh Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks so much for your comment!! That's such a good question I may even do a whole video dedicated to it!😄 I find french furniture much more refined in my opinion. For example they would have wooden rimmed sofas (cabriole) whereas we wouldn't have that in the UK; UK is more comfy like a cottage sofa (particularly with a slip cover). English country is mostly known as English cottage in my opinion (if you need to find inspo online). Personally I think French country is more elegant whilst English country is a little rougher haha - EC is much more rustic whilst french country is sophisticated. Patterns vary greatly to me and the main thing is furniture - french is light & shabby chic / painted pastels whilst English is almost always dark / oak. Lighting is a HUGE difference, I would never see a chandelier in an English country/cottage home EVER 😂 😂 I could go on and on, maybe I do a video on it?🤔
@Androgynary Жыл бұрын
@@dantierandbalogh yes please! Both of them are huge interior trends atm, and a lot of people seem to conflate the two, so it’d be nice to see a dedicated video differentiating them.

@@dantierandbalogh 😊Yes please, a comparison of the two would be amazing. I'm torn between 'em❤. Truly love that earthy, country connection with the land. Grew up in a 🐎equestrian suburb (that allows a mix of 🐓🐐livestock🐄) on & around Verdugo Mtns of LA. We have horse trails that wind around thru our community. 🥵Our Mediterranean/Desert climate can be harsh🌡. ☀️The fact we're drenched in sun lends itself to Provencal lifestyle, but the original inhabitants were not anywhere near the Gentry class. Common salt of the earth, ranching types. My dad spent his youth on cattle🐂 ranches my grandparents managed down at our border. Most of the homes here are rugged ranch style, but my family's MCM ranch home was inspired by architect Frank Llyod Wright. On a terraced hillside lot, massive picture windows to canyon views, & lots of natural wood interior. 🪨 We do have a handful of rustic stone cabin cottages from late 1800s here, but the majority were lost in subsequent earthquakes (& have been banned). Granite stones were the only thing plentiful for building in early days. Most of our 🌳trees🌲 were imported from other areas: oaks, pine, eucalyptus, olive, jacaranda & much more. We also have a smattering of cabins. Some Spanish, Victorian, & Craftsman style woven in. Newer inhabitants are replacing smaller homes up to 1800sq ft on our much bigger lots w/boxy 2-story McMansions 3000-4500sq ft. 😡Some ppl HATE it, but they can blend in some cases. We live in the Eastern SF Valley. In those early days, we had apple🍎 orchards on our fringes & other produce🥕 farms. The West side once had huge 🍊citrus🍋 orchards. Of course, they replaced 'em w/more ranch homes after WWII. 😘Outstanding overview of French Country. ❤Love the palette, finishes & vibe〰️but def lack sophistication. French Doors are stunning, but left open w/o screens here invites all manner of wild 🦝🐍critters🦎🦨 indoors. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

Thank you for this thorough and lovely summary of French country styles. Since the word Chinoiserie is a French word to express the Chinese style of decor, would you say chinoiserie is found in a certain region of France primarily? Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Julie 🌷

Chinese decor primary was found in Château or manors because only people(noble or a rich land owner)with money can afford it. But today you used all over the country is like, white and blue porcelain. You can used in chateau style and provensal or farmhouse decor.

You can see it all over the country, not have a specific region

Hi Julie! Speaking from a personal point of view, I would see these decorations / furniture in large ornate palaces in France, not centralized to a particular region per say. Most chateau these days are bought by expats or french people and done up to their own interior style. But a lot of the remaining chateaux (not residential) are now museums and can have a nod to older styles like chinoiserie elements. In regards to Provencal/ Provence homes, I wouldn't say chinoiserie was seen amongst the interior; its proximity to the Med means they go for more rustic terracotta pots etc. However, if you're looking for chinoiserie, look up Brighton Pavillion UK- it has the largest collection of chinoiserie I have ever seen😊🙌

Shabby chic is affordable for many who can't afford quality antiques. Personally I'd rather save for a beautiful antique than a piece of modern furniture that will wear out in ten years. And sometimes antiques are just as affordable, but people people don't consider furnishing with them for various reasons.

😉Antiques are all well & grand, but not always available or 💲affordable in all locations. In my neck of the woods on the 😎 West Coast 🌊, it's easier to find mass produced vintage reproductions of an item. 🖌Adding a light brushing of white wash on top does a lot to disguise a tacky 20th Century veneered finish🤍. 🤗 Do love & wholly admire 🏰 Chateau style elegance⚜️, but I'm more of a country girl❤. Not necessarily shabby chic, but I like sturdy rustic furnishings that look a bit weathered & chippy. Like it's lived & been loved through many generations. 😁Shy away from anything that's too precious, pristine, or formal. Would find it hard to be at ease surrounded by all museum quality furnishings & decor. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
