Hi!! Well we’ve been going through a moderately slow upgrade in our home, we had plain walls and my very talented husband put up beautiful paneling ; I appreciate you mentioning that our home decor should, or be inline with the style of our home architecture. Ours is a traditional style home with a bit of a country feel; a French pitch roof; I have a mix of French Provençal with some traditional, I have an English French mix I guess, just did a gallery wall and am covering two lovely vintage ( medium size ) Chanel back chairs in green velvet and a rustic ecru toile, really not sure what colour its called but it works.. Thank you so much for guidance and great inspiration on your blog, it’s been most helpful.. 🥰

I'm just waiting for when Art Nouveau has a moment again - everything else has!! I'd be interesting to see what it looks like using the same lines but perhaps differemt colours and materials or a mix with say oriental design? Or a scandi/minimal colour scheme but AN lines and shapes 😱 so cool.

What also works very well together, are Art Deco and Gothic Revival. And this was shown by no one lesser than Batman, who's hometown Gotham was designed as a perfect example, best executed in the set designs of Tim Burton's Batman movies and of the tv series "Gotham".

Thank you for another brilliantly articulated survey of design styles! Your chosen pairs really do make great bedfellows. I love Asian pieces incorporated into traditional interiors (Regency is a bit too grand for me) so that the ambiance is less "square" and has more ethnic and aesthetic diversity; and Scandi with cozy cottage, to warm it up with wood tones and soft textures.

I like scandinavian style, it just functional and simple. But because I am Javanese, I would like to mix it with my heritage. So I'm gonna call it Javandi style, a simple functional furniture style from scandi mixed with dark wood javanese furnitures, batik fabric as accents in cushions and some organics javanese pottery and baskets.
@dantierandbalogh Жыл бұрын
Woah I absolutely love this comment! Javandi- you should trademark that!😄 I have a question, is Javanese design different from that of other parts of Indonesia? Do let me know🤗🤗
@kelanakecil Жыл бұрын
@dantierandbalogh Every culture in Indonesia have their own traditional architecture style and interior style. The most famous one , maybe the Balinese style, because most foreigners visit more the island than other parts of Indonesia. As for Javanese interior style, we usually use dark teak wood, or bamboo for furnitures, with special carvings. Cotton or linen fabric with batik prints or ikat for pillows or throws. Javanese style also influenced by Dutch-colonial style interior. We also love to incorporate raw clay made potteries as accessories.

Would love to see a part 2!! Maybe ones that are very different but work? I love cottage core mixed woth hints of industrial when they're both playing off victorian. Dainty, light, floral fabrics paired with wrote iron style bedframes, copper elements and wooden floorboards have definitely worked in how my mum did up my childhood bedroom. I really want her to change up her kitchen in the aame way as it looks beautiful!

I have noticed that in many videos (even the ones that talk about "small rooms"), the rooms often have quite high ceilings. I love my condo built in 1975, but it is small, has little natural light, has simple small rooms, and has low 8-ft ceilings. Something tells me that grand styles probably don't work in small rooms with low ceilings. Are there any special considerations when floor space is minimal and ceilings are low? Would some styles work better than others? Or is it just a matter of scaling everything down and editing out?
@dantierandbalogh2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim! Thanks for your comment 😄 I would say if the ceilings are low, stick to neutral wall colours. In grand styles, they tend to go for dark wall colours (but they are able to because of the height!) That's all my advice on that one 🤗🤗

I love the traditional and hotel boutique style you mention but for my house that style would be a bit too much, traditional would work for sure, I love color in artwork and in objects and love the posh, plush feel furniture that gives a cozy yet chic feel. I really just pick and choose what I like from many styles and make it work. Not sure what you call it but it seems to work, but definitely love a classical, cozy vibe with touches of color, yellow, blue, greens, golds, silvers and a touch a pink here and there not too much. And I love antiques.

I love that you mentioned Art Deco, which is having another moment (finally!). Contemporary will certainly work with Deco, but I like to see it mixed with earlier French styles like Louis XV, Louis XVI, or even Empire. Deco is French Modern in origin, so it would stand to reason that the people who first bought it for their homes would have already owned cherished French furnishings from previous eras.

My favourite style is the Arts & Crafts one (although I live in a traditional Victorian - which they despised!). I add elements through William Morris designed needlepoint cushions and liberty print lamp shades - rather than go all out with the wallpaper (as much as I love wallpaper I hate removing it) Another pairing that I find very rarely mentioned (and I love) are both Scandinavian. Namely, the Gustavian traditional style mixed with elements of modern Scandi. I love the contrast between the old and new, yet because they have the same heritage they fit well.
@dantierandbalogh2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I agree with the wallpaper comment! Personally I love wallpaper but I don't have any (just in case I get bored of it and have to remove it 😅😅). Scandinavian is so classic and yet you're right, paired with a Gustavian look, it works beautifully too🤍 Thanks so much for commenting 🤗🙏

I love so many of these. Currently in the process of buying a mid century ranch house and wondering how I can blend my love of bohemian, dark ish academia, timeless elegance to the space. It has a lot of wood visible and brick fireplace, lots of long narrow windows that look into the backyard/ garden I hope to create. I love some lines from mid century styles, but hate mid century modern. Helpful ideas are more than welcome!

I'm not exactly sure what my style is. I love neutrals and natural elements (rock, wood, baskets, plants), but traditional design, not boho. I do not like clutter, but not minimalism. So what design box would I fit in?
@dantierandbalogh2 жыл бұрын
Hi there!👋👋 I would type in 'Neutral English Country interior' - country / countryside interiors are rustic, so they have those natural materials you're looking for. Whilst the English country interior is much more refined than a cottage interior (which has clutter!) And the good thing with a Neutral English country interior, is that they're almost always traditional in style. I hope that helps you & if you want I can do a video on it 🤗🤗🤍

Excellent video! Finding a label to put on my design style is difficult as I’m sure it is for many homeowners. I like the clean lines of modern/contemporary furniture styles but also like adding vintage pieces in such as vintage pottery, crystal, and aged brass. I also like the masculine vibe from Ralph Lauren such as pinstripes, tartan plaid, houndstooth, etc. I want my home to tell my story but also be stylish. I usually label my style as modern classic. Any recommendations for searches?

I live in the mountains in California and we have loads of older, cedar shingled cabins and cottages with pine tongue and groove interiors. However, over the past 10 or 15 years, we have had a influx of people from LA, San Diego etc., and they "remodel" these homes with modern decor and it is just so horrible and ugly. I hate modern and to put it in a beautiful vintage cabin is criminal. They totally ruin these lovely, old places. Our cottage was built in 1946 and instead of remodeling it, we are restoring it. Our kitchen has the original, hand built T&G cabinets. Yes. they are a bit wonky, but why would we replace that history with Home Depot cabinets?? We took them all apart, cleaned and sanded them and re-shellaced them. We even cleaned, painted and re-used the hinges and screws with square heads. We put a vintage O'Keefe and Merritt stove from the same era in as well. Our next big kitchen project will be live edge counter tops. We also left the original kitchen window over the sink and I think it looks very charming.
@dantierandbalogh Жыл бұрын
Ohhhh I love that and completely agree with you on your comment about restoration! 😅 Ohhh I haven't heard of those stoves?! Here in UK we have similar stoves called AGA! Thank you so much for your comment I appreciate it 🥰
