For me personally this song is not about the singer or the instruments etc. It’s about the men and women down through the ages that fought for our country against oppression. I owe them a huge debt.🇮🇪💚

R.I.P to both my grandfather's Francis Kelley and Frederick Neary, And to my grandmother's Ellen Mulcahy and Bernadette Coffin, who came from that beautiful country. I wish I lived there and not the states.

These men weren't fighting for ideology but for hearth and home and family; their identity as Irishmen which had been withheld from them for 800+ years.

The line that is often sung by various singers "'And side by side they fought and died '' is totally wrong. Those lads were unarmed there was no gun battle, they were executed. Peggy Sweeneys version ""and side by side they bravely died " is the only version that i know of that describes the true events.May those lads Rest In Peace.

Surely it refers to their previous actions as part of the armed struggle? I mean they weren't the ICA, they were the IRA. The clue is in the line "Republican bold". 🤔😉

Evaluate the place they met their deaths - they were removed from the road and executed in a blind spot on a curve in the hedge that couldn’t be seen from either end of it - were they led there or did they have foreknowledge? No chance of coincidence in that location
