This beautiful qigong form is thought to be around 2000 years old. Designed for illness prevention and health maintenance, it is a joy to practise. Some of the moves are very challenging so it's important to remember that this may be unaccustomed activity for you and could make you sore if you push too hard. Be moderate in your stances: don't go too low or wide in your horse stance; likewise don't go too low in the cross-legged crouch if it strains too much; if overhead moves are a problem for your shoulders/neck/upper back then bring your arms further forward of the head. Modify any moves as needed and make the form feel beautiful for you. If you need help modifying the moves to suit, come to my classes! 😊

What is the health benefit of this form? I enjoyed the flow.

Hi Rodger, I think the benefits will vary from person to person depending on their own starting condition, but in general I'd say practising the form regularly will improve strength and endurance across all the major joints and muscle groups; calm the nervous system; improve the ability to focus, improve respiratory function and so much more. This all dependent on practising within your own limits of comfort, synchronising the breath with the movements and keeping your mind on what you are doing. Often it takes a lot of practise before you notice any effects, particularly the calming of the nervous system. You need to be able to relax and flow with the form and not wrestle with it to feel the benefits. This is just my opinion - I haven't read any research specifically on the effects of this form in particular.

@@JadeLady thanks for your explanation. I have asthma so I am always keen on anything that works the Lung meridian. Such as the archer movement in 8 silk brocade.

@@rodgerhempfing2921 I'd say there's a number of these moves that target the lung meridian, but if you really want to challenge your lungs, Wild Geese Land on the Beach will do the job - knees and hips permitting. I find that one really hard to synchronise with the breath, but very satisfying.

@@JadeLady I don't have that much flexibility any more ,sadly. Does your school do the lotus form? That's nice to do.
