I must tell you a story.Your shelf like track reminds me of years ago somebody gave me an o gauge steam engine,can’t remember type or brand ,r/s and track.While my wife was away I constructed a shelf like track that started at my lounge chair ,went around the room ,drilled a tunnel through to the kitchen to the fridge with the idea that it would carry a can of beer back to me on a modified flat car.Amazingly it worked(slowly).However the missus was not impressed and wouldn’t play the game of loading the train. Shortly after I was divorced and I could never see why.🍺🚂

I have to say, Sam, I'm loving O Gauge! I like the level of detail, like the opening doors and especially the realistic couplings -- not something you see on smaller scale models. You definitely need a better coupling tool, though. It's too bad you don't have much space for a bigger O layout, but I think if you just had another pair of points, so the loco could run around to the other end of the consist, that would open up a lot of shunting options.

Sam, try taking a coffee or tea stirrer, such as you get in motorway services, drill a small hole in the end of it. Then, take a staple, place it in the hole and strengthen with glue if you need to. When you have that done, bend the staple into a hook shape and voila. One coupling hook.

Hi sam, as a kid in the late 1950s I was keeping my dad company in his signal box during his 2pm to 10pm shift. Late evening was the usual time for the coal trains to come through on their way to the local power station. I clearly remember on one occasion counting 67 coal wagons going past. ( dad said he counte80 wagons regularly) So if you are considering replicating a coal train of 67 wagons in o gauge well, the cost would certainly be eye wateringly expensive!

Have got one of these coming in the post, but do have the SR 5 plank wagon and those three link couplings should be loose and able to go at any angle within the holder, as for the wheels they should be like the other two, free to spin and my 5 plank is also loose either side but figured that was normal for O Gauge. Might be worth using a bent out paperclip to use as a coupling aid, bend it out straight then make one end into a slight hook might help, will be what I'll be doing with my stuff... once I find a paperclip... Hi Sam, another good video. "0" gauge wagons! Yes, the chain links should be loose in the hooks and, they all looked rather distorted too. The wheels should have been more consistent although the details looked superb, especially the opening doors. Most of my wagons I built from "Parkside Dundas" which include everything you need except glue and paint, but including correct style couplings. My other wagons I fitted with "Peco" three link or instanters which are beautifully fitting. You will need to invest in two more buffer stops before you destroy your lovely Terrier by driving it on to the floor. You wouldn't want to do that, would you? To make the wagons look more realistic, you need to change two of their numbers. Your comment about the wagon looking large next to the Terrier, well, the Terrier is a very small 0-6-0 tank engine. You should see the full sized ones pulling a mark 1 coach, it dwarfs it. Keep well, regards Alan.

Replace the rubbish couplings - in fact, maybe replace all your 0 Gauge couplings - with Slaters etched hooks and decent 3-link chains. They work like a dream. Available from Slaters website, or from the 0 Gauge paradise Tower Models of Blackpool. Also, weight the wagons to about 1 gram per mm of length over buffers. Since you are now working with sprung couplings and sprung buffers, your wagons need a bit of inertia to mimic the 'loose-coupling' effect. Brilliant review, though. It really shows how breathtaking a simple open wagon can be in 7mm scale.

Sam should make some sort of high detailed 0 Gauge scene on a small wooden board, big enough for some small stunting, and he can take it to model shows in future or something like that

Another lovely review btw!

That'd be fun - maybe one day!! Thanks very mucH! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Sam if you have a fishing hook you can couple them up easily

The wheel running variation could be caused by underframe warping. A quick check with verniers across the frame axle boxes would show it up. 😷

Very interesting Alan - I'll check this! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

I have a 12 van train in OO scale, all with scale 3 link couplings..imagine the time it takes to assemble them!

Ahh that sounds amazing - but very fiddly! xD Thanks for watching - Sam :)

You should get some scenery for your o gauge layout, also you can get some Thomas and friends things for o guage from Lionel

Great idea Collin - that would be fun! :D

Great video! Question- SR narrow gauge was located in London to Southhampton? Where would one see and find the narrow gauge SR operate? Thank! Train Builder
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
I'm not too sure about that mate - I don't know much about narrowgauge! ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Three seemingly identical wagons with three different running characteristics is super realistic. Wait until they're in an engineering train, and it'll be hot box heaven on a Sunday morning, just like the teal railway.

haha I know - I couldn't believe that! xD Thanks for watching - Sam :)

There’s just something about O gauge that’s like AARRGGHH! It’s SO realistic! 😂 and if you do get a brake can, try to get a SR one to go well with the wagons and terrier. For an uncoupling tool, you could get a paper clip bend it out and have a 90 degrees kink at the end. Attach it to a light so you can see what your doing 😀

haha I know mate - I've really enjoyed that aspect too! Good idea - I'll try that! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Hi Sam, sorry for talking about something off topic, but have you ever been to the Severn Valley Railway? It is well worth a visit with a very wide variety of locos and rolling stock. By the way, another great video and they are some lovely, well detailed rolling stock there!
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
I never have been Charlie - though I'd absolutely love to visit! Glad you liked these! :D Cheers, Sam :)

Very cool! I model in O scale myself and I love it’s heft. If I might make a comment on the video (I love all your videos) as a professional railroader (railwayman?) why are you making your O scale crewman walk so far? No need to spot the cars so far beyond the points, as long as they clear. Unless your trying to NOT step on your layout underneath 😂. The poor crew has to walk and walking on ballast hurts your feet! 😜. I’d love to see you review the Dapol Class 08! I model US O gauge, but that Dapol 08 makes me want to build a British O gauge layout.
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate - yes the size of O gauge has been something I've fallen in love with! I'm hoping to look into the Dapol 08 soon! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Lovely wagons there, Sam! Only really hampered by some mediocre couplings. Loving the O gauge videos, the sheer visual size of them is something OO just can’t match.
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, yes it was a shame about that! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@OlivierGabin4 жыл бұрын
Seems it is not only with OO gauge that Dapol had issues with couplings... Last bad thing to say about them, the OO tension lock they use are especially made from a abnormally brittle plastic, I had crushed half a dozen of them (and don't care because I want Kadees instead). Anyway, if they change this point, those wagon would be a must-have for an O scale layout.
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
haha very true - they can't seem to get them right! ;D Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Now Sam this is the first of a few quizzes I have for you and there will be a 4 digit code at the end for the next one to see if you have been paying attention. 1 of these three gauges which do you prefer. O gauge. OO gauge or HO gauge. 2 diesel or steam locos. And 3. Dc or dcc. The code is 1234. And thank you very much if you participate Sam -stay safe
@SamsTrains4 жыл бұрын
Ahh fantastic A - I think maybe O gage at the moment, steam, DC! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
