Sentinels have funnels (that's what they called them) . Also that flap is called a Funnel damper :) . So you can leave a small fire in overnight to keep it warm or warm the boiler through. As the ashpan doesn't have any dampers.

Happy New Year Jenny and Zoe :) A very nice and quite unusual model - I never fail to be amazed by the sheer size of O scale, it really is huge! How anyone ever finds the space for a decent O gauge layout I'll never know. My Uncle worked as a chemical engineer for the NCB back in the 70s, and was also a model railway fanatic, so I'm sure he would have been fascinated by this!

Its a superb loco and I remember the Middleton Railway one being at the East Lancs Railway and its such a characterful loco, I also remember one being in a lorry parts yard near were I used to live in the 60's but dont know what happened to it. As for this model though i may buy it just for display it looks that good

Y3s have a 2 speed gearbox Y1s have only got 1 speed
