Bambiluvsyou I doubt it. Had several operations myself and they're pretty quick on getting you into theatre and, although the doctor introduces him/herself to you, you're generally under anesthesia too quickly to make that sort of comment.

I'm a psychiatric nurse and they say we're not proper nurses (yep, one of these witches said that to me just before she hit me around the back of the head whist delivering my first baby). When I was a teen we had a class on midwifery and so forth. And I still remember her saying "if your going to tare it's best to get a cut and it will heal faster and hurt less and anyway you will barley feel it since everything is stretched tight so don't worry" the pregnant woman she had brought so we could listen to her baby heartbeat agreed with her.

Surgeons don't know everything about the body, honestly the arrogance. especially if they aren't specialists in labour. It's true natural tearing does heal better then an cut, usually. This is because there are 4 types of natural tears 1 is mild, 2 is average and 3 is bad and 4 is the most severe. Where if they cut you it's nearly always front to back i.e a large cut the equivalent of a 3rd degree tear or worse a 4th. The bigger the cut the longer it takes to heal. There have been a lot of studies that show doctor's are quicker to cut instead of waiting.

They didn't get it fixed up untill I was born 2 1/2 years later. I on the other hand was easy and just slipped out with out any fuss. My mom had natural births both times without drugs.

An obstetrician or a midwife would be there. The latter would most likely make a cut. They used to just cut almost everyone thinking the bigger the hole the better. But now an episiotomy is recommended only on dire conditions sue to the complications that usually arrive. Sorry your mom wasn't treated correctly.

That's not nearly obvious. Mostly in labour tears actually are better, because obviously, tear mostly damages softer tissues, not necessarily blood vessels or, more importantly, nerves. Further, the cut that is made can cause the tissue to tear further (like with fabric, if you make a snip and pull on it). Honestly, I can't even imagine why everyone would need to hear about this debate, when it’s so much more important to offer clear and reassuring information, options for prevention of complications and to strive to avoid both tears and cuts in the first place. Just bs discussing this with first time mothers, like the can do much about the doctor's/midwive's decision to act.

As a mother who researched everything about labour to calm my nerves, didn't hear a thing in my first 2 maternity classes that I didn't hadn't already learned, was pumped for the third class because it was about techniques to manage labour but missed the class because I was to busy having an emergency c-section....this whole bit is less comedy and more fact.

My mum went to NCT classes and carried on meeting up with the other mum's whilst we were all children. At the age of 25 I can say that I have know 1 of my closest friends her entire life.

The only NCT I know stands for Neo Crackhead Technology. If you're sad and want to cry, they will tell you "be quiet, don't cry." If they tell you to be somewhere, you better be there or be square because nobody wants to be a square. It's a pretty good community. They'll even give you this light green, glowing brick that looks like Thor's hammer as a souvenir and used in rituals. It breaks easily though if you swing it too hard at the club. Yeah be careful not to swing it too hard especially when that mutated recorder flute music comes on because you might break it unintentionally.

Slight PSA because medical science has improved since 2011: it turns out tears are actually better than cuts. Not because it's more "natural" and doctors are scary, but because creating a cut means you will tear much further than you would without. And the larger the tear the worse the healing process is. Okay PSA is over you can all go back to watching comedy shows now.

Wrong frame of reference. A stanley knife is not a scalpel.

@ I get that a stanley and a scalpel aren't the same but a brand new stanley blade and a scalpel going through skin, i would presume leave a straight line cut. Therefore in my experience it takes longer to heal but a blade will leave a much smaller scar when it does heal. I presume the reason that women prefer to tear is that it heals quicker and they don't give a fuck what their vaginas look like afterwards.
