Very good in-depth review. My how time flies. I can't believe you've had this fopr more than 3 years! From my observations, I found that the best thing about the SawStop was stability and balance. Never any vibration. I too never heard of any specific brand of dado stack that was needed. Just be sure to calibrate the cartridge to the stack. The only thing I would add is it is nice to get extra throat places so you can make zero clearance inserts. Thanks for a great video

Great review of a great saw. We had a 5hp ICS and disabled the safety often as we used a large amount of reclaimed wood at risk for metal. Also, we used a standard 8" dado set with their dado brake assembly. Never heard about needing to use their set. Enjoy your channel...

I have the 3hp PCS model going on 3 years. I love it, I've engaged the bypass many times with no problems, I have the 4" overhead dust collection that works pretty good as long as you don't split one 4" line into two for the saw/overhead dust collection. You would get better results on your smaller overhead dust collection with your shop vac due to increased velocity. You don't need a special dado set as long as it's 8" and I believe no wider than 7/8". If you go wider, the outer blade might not contact the cartridge during activation and it will keep spinning. I'm hoping to get the sliding portion sometime next year. The fit and finish is outstanding with no vibrations while running it. One of my favorite purchases I've made.

@@jd1399 I've cut 2 inch walnut, sapele, oak, and other hard woods and I've never come close to bogging it down. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten away with the 1.75 HP model using quality blades but the price difference wasn't that big in my opinion. I know how to do electrical work, so putting in the 240v line wasn't costly for me. I've read a lot of reviews from people with the 1.75 and they have no regrets on their purchase. Have fun with whatever you choose, it's a great saw.

Linn - I had the same issues with dust collection and found a great solution. Use a cheap shop vac (I use a $35 harbor freight 3hp vac - very compact). Attach that to the overarm dust collector and then connect the exhaust from that vac using a wye fitting into the dust collector hose. You need high fpm to suck up the dust from that small hose. You don’t even need a filter though for the shop vac since it’s connecting into your dust collector - it uses that filter. Shop vacs do high fpm but low cfm while dust collectors do the reverse. That’s why dust collectors just don’t really work with small hose.

Hi Darbin nice video! I would like to add that the quality of the cut the 3hp SawStop makes, it is surgical precision. The saw had to made like a tank to withstand shock when the safety feature activates, that resulted in almost no vibration while the saw is running because the trunnions (motor mounts) and the gears are rock solid. I've had mine for 2 years now and it's worth every penny.

I have long enjoyed your videos, thank you. I have a similar setup but use a Festool vacuum CT-36 on the blade guard unit, as I agree a regular shop central vac (mine is 5hp Clear-Vue cyclone) does not extract well on the blade guard unit. Another comment on a 10” blade once it is embedded in a brake unit, I heard very recently that often the blade can be sent to a sharpening service, they may have to replace a tooth or so, but often the blade is not wasted after all 😅

I have a Sawstop Contractor's saw, it's been great, but I need a bigger saw so will be upgrading to the Sawstop Professional. I bought Sawstop because I'm a guitar player / luthier, so I'll do anything to protect my hands. And I'm glad I did because I did something stupid and the mechanism kicked in and saved my fingers. I'm sold.

Very nice review. I have the PCS. It’s been a great saw. I have the same complaint about the overarm dust collection. But my biggest complaint is with the miter gauge. The one I got had a spur on it that scratched my table top first time I slid it in its slot. Secondly it’s a very cheap one. For the price it really should have a better one. I bought a Jessum.

The overhead dust hose you have is for high pressure vacuums like a shop vac or dust extractor. If you want to use your dust collector you need the 4” floating over arm dust collector. A dust collector like the ones you have really lose any suction power when you connect to a hose that small.

Great overview. I’m 2 years in and still love mine. I didn’t get the sliding but everything else. The router table is outstanding! For the blade I use a Festool CT-36 and the Bluetooth remote. One button and I turn on my main collector and the Festool. I have next to zero dust and the blade guard never clogs regardless of what I cut.

This is a great, thorough, and honest review. I'm hoping to be in the market in the next few years and this is very helpful. Thank you! One thought on the overhead. My understanding is that large dust collectors don't have the power (suction) to do much good in a small diameter hose. My little shop vac pulls way more in a small tube than my 3HP dust collector does. When I get my new setup, I plan to have a dedicated shop vac for overhead.

I use Trend 8inch stack dado set no problem. Just got to change to the dado 8inch cartridge and dado throat plate and check blade clearance to cartridge surface. My complaint with the SawStop is I can not use a 7 1/4 inch Skilsaw type blade on it. I used to use those blades to get a thin kerf cut of about .065. I now use a 8 inch Freud thin kerf blade but it is .085. Oh well. Cant have everything.

Hi. Nice review. I want to clarify something though, relative to dado sets. At 13:48 you say you have to use "their specific"(Sawstop's) dado stack. Yet, you show a Freud set?? I've had my SS for 9 years. Unless things have changed you CAN use many brands of dado sets. I have read however that there are certain ones that SawStop states you CANNOT use.

That saw is cool, it is just missing the 4" over the arm dust collector vs the saw guide one. Though I am not sure which actually catches more dust...it would depend on the types of cuts you do I guess for that. :)

Very good review - question: you mentioned that the sliding table is not that accurate? Elaborate please.
@ZunarZulfiqar
@ZunarZulfiqar 3 ай бұрын
Well, I own one of these sliders, so I hope I can offer some insight. For me at least, the black slider table aspect must be mounted a bit above the cast iron table of the saw. That is so that the fence of the slider doesn't smash into the cast iron table top of the saw. Mounting the slider slightly high allows the fence to float over the saw table. The problem is, this effectively means the top of your table saw isn't perfectly flat as it steps up where the saw table meets the sliding table. If you lay a panel of wood on the saw so that it extends on the cast iron saw table and the sliding crosscut table, the panel will be angled upwards just slightly due to the crosscut table having to be set above the saw table. I hope this makes sense. Setting it to a perfect 90 degrees isn't exactly easy. The detects don't work all too well as the fence is just very long. Even 0.01 degrees off at the detent translates to much higher error at the end of the fence. For super small work, it's simply just too big. Holding a small 6 inch board at the very end of the fence is possible, but the sliding portion would be way off to the left. Thus, if you push forward with pressure at just the end where the small block of wood is, you'll inevitably just slightly twist the fence counterclockwise. To mitigate this, it's best to apply forward pressure right behind the sliding part of the table. That way, the forward force is in-line with the linear slider. Micro adjusting angles is basically impossible as it only really moves in large choppy movements. The aforementioned floating fence presents another issue. That being that any downward pressure causes the fence to flex downward which can effect the length of a cut by a super tiny amount. The flip stops aren't really that great. They have deflection if a bit of pressure is applied. With how this fence works, it's quite easy to deflect the stop accidentally while making a cut. To note though, most of these issues can be worked around if you know what to look out for and take time to ensure it's square or set to the perfect angle. I've managed to get seriously accurate cuts with mine where even a 26 inch ultra high precision Woodpeckers square found absolutely no error over a 24 inch crosscut.

I notice that you mounted your sliding cross cut table to the left hand wing, giving you capability to cut very wide panel. Most configurations I see (like at WoodCraft or Rockler) remove the wing and mount to the saw table directly-I am considering mounting my sliding table this way. Do you think I will regret it? I don’t imagine using the table saw to cut panels so wide. If I ever need to, I think I would use my Festool track saw.

Suggestion: why don't you get a small dust collector (1hp) that fits under the saw and make it inclusive to it. Sawstop needs 400cfm, those small dust collectors are 600 and up. This way you will get rid of that long hose on your floor and get better suction.

Regarding the table's "flatness" - you are measuring the flatness of the table in relation to the dial indicator's base, which is only a few inches away. I'm not saying the table isn't nice and flat, merely that the way you are measuring it can't prove the overall flatness.
@ipick4fun27

I use a Metabo jobsite table saw with the folding stand, and had my first accident. I was using my dado stack and like an idiot was pushing a 2x6 sideways into yhe blade to create an arch through the width of the board, and was holding the board with my hands. The blades grabbed the board and shot it downstream and drug my left hand into trhe blade. Since i had the blade 1/4" high, it only mangled the ends of two fingers. Now i understand the value better of a saw stop. Alas, i dont have the room nor the funds to get one. But also i dont build things for a living- only hobbies.

The same thing happened to my two fingers tips, my middle and ring fingers on my left hand on a non SawStop table saw. It cost a little over $5,000 for the hospital bill. The next week, I found a PCS 3 hp 36” T guide fence for only $2890 (in December 2019) and purchase it! My fingers took 6 weeks to heal but had to do 3 months of occupational hand therapy. I still have some numbness in those finger tips! Best purchase I ever made.
