Nice review, we're running the Darche Ridgedome & have learnt from experience that if you buy cheap, you buy twice. The Ridgedome is an absolute pleasure to camp with, super cool in summer and super warm in winter.

I have the darche double dee 1400 also in new zealand. Definately glad I got it over kings and love every trip camping in it. I actually leave the centre portion of the poles threaded through the canvas and fold each respective side section into the centre. Makes for quicker setup/pack down and protects them better in my opinion. Also have colour coded the poles where they attach to the swag if they are removed for easy identification. Great video!!

In the uk we get rain quite often so this wouldn’t make much sense for me! however I like the idea of it and want to combine one of those built in mattresses with a twin skin polyester tunnel tent, what kind of mattress would I be looking for? Memory foam?

if the guy setting up the darche new what he was doing the set up time would have been even or quicker and with the darche you can leave the middle pole support in all 3 slots when you pack it up with out breaking them so set up time for the darche could be quicker in say that great review guys i went the darche over the kings its a much better swag

Top review. Have you had any issues with the windows that are only Velcro leaking water ( in heavy rain and strong winds)? Seems to be slightly poor design compared to the rest of the swag?

Hey David, have had absolutely no issues at all. I also own the Darche Dirty Dee 900 which entails the same design, and it is awesome. Have had it in cyclonic weather and haven't had a drop inside. Great swag!!

The dirty dee 1400 can now have a pole awning set for another big breathable window that’s rain resistant

Swags with a third pole in the middle will be better than swags with 2 poles as far as the sagging issue is concerned, but the extra pole will make access harder. A catch 22.

A mate sent back two Ridgedomes as they both leaked , they were both seasoned and tested with out mattresses in recent showers, ill give it to darche they sent out new ones without much fuss but for a $600 swag you'd expect better, im a fan of 23zero all seem sealed ready to go no seasoning required and a bit cheaper than darche.

great review, thanks for sharing - I was wondering how Darche could justify their price point given the inital price point but can see that they use overall higher quality materials than the Kings one. I'm guessing that if people were probably going to be putting their swag under a tarp/gazebo or similar then probably could get away with the Kings - but if you are out in the elements with no shelter then the Darche looks like the goods - you dont want water seeping in and nice that you can sit up in it too!

Kings is the Kmart of the camping industry. It’s great at making camping affordable for everyone, but when you can stretch the budget you should definitely buy other brands. I love my Darche gear. There’s other options, too, which are priced between Kings and Darche. Also, the Darche Dusk to Dawn 1400 is the same style as this Kings swag and it’s price sits more evenly between the two swags shown here. Good review 🙂👍🏻

Yes mate I totally agree, Kings is cheap for a reason. couple years back I bought a kings awning, less than 12 months later a pole broke, the velcro straps are next to useless, and the whole thing is rubbish without an aftermarket center-pole bought. Doesn't keep heavy rain out, Kings is a box moving company, not a company dedicated to making quality camping equipment

Just wondering why you used the dirty dee when the dusk to dawn is the same design as the big daddy. Comparing the same design would have made a better video.

Good point Darren, the reason why we compared the two swags is because the Dirty Dee is Darche's highest selling swag. Thought it would be more relevant then comparing the dusk to dawn. Maybe we will film that comparison in the future. Appreciate the feedback tho, hope you subscribed.

You can keep the three cross poles in the dirty dee when you roll it up, speeds set up time a fair bit, and the Exped megamat duo self inflating insulated mattress fits the dd1400 perfectly, next level comfort and warmth, never a leak in my DD 1400 even in heavy storms

Sorry mate I have both swags bought Kings first Darche recently both are about the same time to set up so I'm not sure what your mates strengths are but erecting a swag is definitely not one of them. To be honest I don't even see the point of this comparison as when your out to enjoy a great time a few minutes either way wouldn't matter at all. For the record I like both swags Kings is huge Darche big enough for two and more convenient hence why we purchased it,

Great review however it'd make sense to compare swags of equal value/similarities. This darche is not of equal representation to the kings. It's of an entire higher quality swag. It leans more towards a biased review. Still great information though 👌🏽

Bit of a biased review. You packed up the kings on your own but when it came to the darche it took both of you. I agree though, the kings swags do leak which is why ill be upgrading.

No worries mate, we season all our swags thoroughly before use including the kings. Yet still woke up with half the mattress wet. Presenting stats, facts and telling you my experience isn’t bias. I just love good products😁. Feel free to buy a kings, have it leak, then realise darche was the right one to go with in the beginning🤙🏼
