Okay, understand that Disturbed is a metal band, so lots of hard-driving music. The only other ballad they've sung is "Darkness". This band's most famous song is "Down with the Sickness". This guy's name is David Draiman and he's actually a classically trained vocalist. Some of their other songs that I like are a Genesis cover "Land of Confusion" and an original "10 Thousand Fists".

This is a dark song and is calling out what Simon and Garfunkel saw as problems with the world. It transfers to our current era very strongly and even Simon and Garfunkel love this version. S & G sung it more breathy and light. PTX added soul but, Disturbed brought it to life in my opinion. Plus, it is rather a shock coming from Disturbed because this is not their typical song or sound.

Just too add my 2 cents. He was trained at Yeshivas Neveh Zion, jerusamen to study as a hazzan (correctly pointed out earlier as a jewish cantor, classically trained to musically lead jewish congregations in songful prayer). He was to take over the position from his grandfather, until David lost his faith, leading him to a career as lead singer, for over 10 years, with the metal band "Disturbed". He is is most know for his powerful, raspy, growling, percussive vocals. His fellow band members are Dan Donegan (guitar, keyboard), John Moyer ( bass), and Mike Wengren (drums). eshivas Neveh Zion take over for his grandfather

Paul Simon wrote this magical piece of lyrical poetry in 1964. It was written as a warning of the great human disconnect and all the disasters that would occur because of our carelessness and arrogance. Now...when David, a classically trained cantor sings this song it is full of sadness and rage that the warning has still gone unheeded. There is however a small glimmer of hope that it is not too late. Let's face it...Paul wrote this in 1964 for David Draiman. I will step out and say that I think that this is the greatest cover of one of the most powerful songs in history. Period.

I loved the original by Simon and Garfunkel (which came out when I was a kid). I loved the Pentatonix version ever more, it was so pure and soulful. When I heard this arrangement by Disturbed - it instantly became my favorite version ever. The tone and grit of the song is very powerful and moving and works perfectly with the intent of the original lyrics.

Disturbed is an incredible kind band. The first time I heard this song my heart started beating so fast. We lost our son to a Drunk Driver while he was attending a Jason Aldean concert. This song came out after his death. It hit my heart & soul so deeply that I reached out to the management & the band DISTURBED. I have never done anything like that in my life. I asked them if they could dedicate this song in my son's memory on the venue he was killed. In an instant they said yes. 🙏🙏🙏 to me this song reminds me of the path our son had to take on that deadly night. They said his name which meant everything to me & told the audience his story. God bless Disturbed & their management. Forever grateful. 🙏🙏🙏

As others have said the original singers of this song is Simon and Garfunkel from back in the 60's. Its more mellow and sadder sounding. Another great cover of Sounds of Silence is done by a singer called Peter Hollens. Also singing with him is Tim Foust, the bass singer from Home Free. I know you've listened to and enjoyed them. Each version is unique and very good. Having listened to this cover you should also react to the other two in order to see how different the same song can sound.

Despite being sick that day David Draiman still delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. The performance got the attention of song creator Paul Simon who posted it on his social media and reached out to the band, calling it the greatest cover of any of his songs. Conan went on to celebrate the live performance last year when it became the first video from his show to hit 100 million views. Keep up the great work!

As others have probably mentioned, David Draiman is the lead singer of his band, Disturbed. They’ve been together since the mid 90’s playing; what I’m sure you know have discovered, metal rock. He was trained classically, and got through pre law in college. He’s a brilliant man who grew up in Chicago. I’ve been a fan of theirs since then. I remember hearing demo discs of them that came from the local shows before they got big. That said, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel wrote, and released this song back in 1963. Not long before i was born, and grew up listening to it in the back seat of moms car on the radio. The message is deep. It’s a warning to humanity about losing conscious, and connective, relations with one another over the advancing spread of technology. Pretty deep for 1963. Understanding that message sung in “folk” style seems passive. And with that understanding; combined with the passive aggressive delivery by Simon and Garfunkel, David wanted to redeliver the message as a dire warning. In my opinion if we were all committed brothers and sisters in Christ everything else would work itself out without hate, violence, war, or death. Anyway, great reaction, brother. ✌️🇺🇸
