Tried to exile a Doubling Season where the guy already had 1 insta-emblem, and was playing MORE Planeswalkers - he threw a complete fit, "Why? WHY!? HE'S got CREATURES!" I had a wrath in hand as well, but could only play 1 at the moment, and did I mention he's playing MORE PWs - AYFKM?! My choice was DEFINITELY the DS, and he grumbles under his breath and casts Disperse and pulls it back up. Happily we've never played in a group together again.

I’ve been on the fence about building her, but Anger and perilous foray with those mana dorks was a pretty nice synergy if Karametra hadn’t popped off.

Tymber Lance too many factors change. If they have a draw on creature cast/etb, and they play a bounce creature like 10 times let’s say, and 3 of those draws were lands, they likely wouldn’t have hit lands if they hadn’t shortcut, and would have a better hand. But having them do the whole process is a pain. Plus it’s harder to keep track of landfall/lands “grabbed” when you shortcut in a deck where every single creature cast is a new land. Plus shuffling the deck could be significant to a game plan they have running, and just telling them, “No, shortcut, that vizier of the menagerie you have is irrelevant to everyone else.”

@@TableTopTakeDown it's a habit, always watch somebody when they have to do something simple like Scrying or just Drawing, because that's usually when that stuff happens because it's easy to miss, I don't usually call people out mid game though, because it's just a game to me, I'll call them out after and maybe warn others about that player

I've always wanted to make a modular deck with Marchesa, the Black Rose. Her recursion ability seems really good with Modular.

I tried when I first built her, but most of the modular cards don't work well in a EDH game. Their curve works really well in other formats since they have an aggressive tempo, but there's not a critical mass of good modular creatures to build a whole EDH deck around that one mechanic

@@levijaeger4910 I was thinking maybe just a general Artifact centered deck using a few of the better modular creatures as sources of +1/+1 counters for other artifact creatures. Ravager in particular seems really good with Marchesa if you have other artifact creatures you want to be able to put counters on (or ways to turn non-artifact creatures into artifacts so they can recieve the countets). I've never really gotten that far in trying to build it, though.

Painter's Servant makes all cards in all places the color of your choice. Grind Stone is looking to hit two cards with the same color, which Servant guarantees. This lets you mill out an entire library when you activate it once, provided the Servant isn't removed in response.

Mistake counter comment! Feel free to reply to this with anything I missed. 1) Where is Silas in the opening hand display? 2) "He taps Karn's Bastion to populate, adding counters" That's...not how populate works. You meant proliferate. 3) Casting Seasons Past off of Rishkar's Expertise is an illegal play. Second card lets you cast a 5cmc for free, SP is 6. Those were the big ones I noticed. Do you edit these yourself Andrew?

I’m still confused on how Max’s planswalkers had 8 loyalty after he cast them. Can someone explain that effect?

Doubling season has a unique interaction with planeswalkers, specifically the “if an effect would put one or more counters on a permanent you control, it puts twice as many of those counters on that permanent instead.” This replacement effect causes planeswalkers to enter with twice their usual loyalty. 8 in elspeth’s case, 12 for Gideon, etc.

It’s probably not that great in Daretti. You can’t ever cheat it out of the graveyard since it shuffles into your library as a replacement effect.

well, I'll just persist on saying the usual: the only guy with mass removal was actually in overkill mode. seeing that doubling season on the ground for so long just hurts me! :P 2 decks play that in my playgroup and it almost never survives a whole round. that it could still be there after a wheel of time just baffles me.

Don’t forget that the Elspeth emblem was out before the wheel, greatly narrowing what removal could be used on it. The colors were also a factor, not a lot of good options for dealing with indestructible enchantments in mono red or blue/black. The naya probably only had return to dust, if he was even running that.

@@CaptTelnet yeah I actually forgot elspeth's emblem. that's why I always use tragic arrogance in my white decks.. sacrifice doesn't care about indestructibility :P that or even just a counter or a well timed enchantment removal could do the trick. I agree though that him doing everything in a single turn was insanely hard to respond to.

I feel like most of this game had me with way too many cards in hand for that to be effective. I run Silent Arbiter as a similar effect that isn't based around hand size.

@@MTGMuddstah yea but having more options is nice, cuz you didn't find arbiter either in that dig I assume. The lands ended up being 9/9s so it would have def saved you maybe long enough to run into gamble or something. Just thinking out loud
