The Dargo 4WD tracks are some of the best in the Vic High Country.
Most of the Dargo 4WD tracks are very steep and challenging.
This ripper camping spot on the Crooked River near Talbotville is a great spot.
The Victorian High Country has so many off road camping spots, and the 4WD tracks around Dargo are a heap of fun.
This off road trip in the Vic High Country heads into the tiny town of Dargo to take on the 4WD tracks in the area.
It is a great area to explore, as i take on a few of the off road 4WD tracks that i haven't done for a while.
Randalls Track and Conway track are the two for this video. Both of these tracks are a lot of fun in your 4WD, and they provide amazing views over the Vic High Country.
I talk about 4x4 tips as i drive along the 4x4 tracks, for those that don't know the area very well, and for those beginners wanting to explore the area.
Check out episode from this epic trip around Dargo. Link below.

Love Dargo and the Dargo High Plains area, used to camp and 4wd up there a lot back in 78-79 when I was a member of the Wagga 4wd club. We would also join up with the Albury Overlanders 4wd club for the odd trip to Dargo. A different time back then, you accessorised your 4by with a bull bar, wide tyres and better shocks.... no lockers, no lift kits, no power steering and only a few had pto or electric winches. I want to do some more trips up there once this Rona thing is over, I came back from a trip to Melbourne late last year through Dargo and the high plains track which bought back so many memories and a yearning to return.

Hi Tim great vid just love that part of the country up there all the time Great advice on heating metal up then quencing in cold water ,long term damage .dif & trans breathers are easy just add a joiner & movee breather up high. Tip check your diff oil if milky water getting in. Yes gods country up there Des

G'day Des, Yeah for sure on having the diff breathers extended up into the engine bay. Lucky my Patrol comes standard with extended breathers, keeps that running gear away from water ingress. Sure is stunning country up around Dargo. Thanks for your feed back mate, i really appreciate that. Cheers Tim.

Hi Tim Just catching up on this ‘mini’ series around Dargo. Fantastic uploads. Thx I have next week off and thinking of heading up that way for a few days before the Xmas rush. Coming from Wonangatta what’s the best way to Talbotville and then onto Dargo? I run a Hilux with 2” lift and aggressive A/T’s Thx and cheers...
@timbates4wdadventures

G'day mate, The best way from the Gatta to Talbotville is either via Hern Spur Track. But you have about 6 crossing of the Gatta River before you start climbing. Just be careful if a lot of rain has fallen. If you dont take Hern Spur Tk. Take Wombat Range Track. Hern Spur Tk runs into it further up Wombat. Then head down Cynthia Range Track, down Station Track and the Crooked River Track into Talbotville. Should take about 3 - 3.5hrs from the Gatta to Talbotville. From Talbotville head up McMillians Rd, turn right at the Dargo High Plains Rd and down hill into Dargo. Hope that helps mate. Cheers Tim.

G'day Ryan, That two part Dargo series was only filmed two weeks ago. But that area is getting some pretty full on rain and snow in the higher peaks as we speak. So, bu the time you come down it could be very different with tracks and river heights. So keep an eye on that mate. Thanks for your reply and feed back, i greatly appreciate it. Cheers Tim.

Fun fact....... the bridge has two different names. One way, it’s Kingswill Bridge, the other way it’s Kingwill Bridge. Also, have you done the King Spur Track down into Mayford? It’s a fun drop down to the Dargo River, no long drops there, and not a lot of room if it’s busy, but a good one none the less. Just pray it doesn’t rain while you’re down there.........once again, top video mate.

Great Videos, enjoying watching them. We are travellling to Victoria early February to Bright, so you are giving us plenty of ideas. Will be travelling with offroad camper, are these tracks suitable? or can you recommend a base camp to leave camper. Thanks for advice.

G'day Mark, Thanks mate for watching the videos and thats great they are giving you some ideas for the trip you are planning. I'd probably look at base camping mate with your camper at some of the spots i mention in that two part video. You can camp at the back of the Dargo Pub, or not far out of Dargo is Italian Flat on the Dargo River. Or another option is Talbotville down on the Crooked River. Let me know mate if you need any further information. Thanks heaps for your feed back mate. Cheers Tim.

Hi Tim, great video mate. Just another thing about the washouts that you mentioned @7:34, apart from deflecting the water off it also saved my bacon on my runaway auto patrol on descending the steep B1 track near Licola. It was a good resting point to cool my brakes off before going down again. Of course now I have reduction gears and that problem is eliminated but the stress that I went through that day due to brake fade is unmentionable. Cheers.
@timbates4wdadventures
@timbates4wdadventures 3 жыл бұрын
Gday mate, Yes they are very handy for resting your 4wd on in times of brake fading. I’ve mentioned that tip a few times in my videos. I’m glad you got down off B1 ok. The video I’m loading as we speak, has us going up B1. That’s up tomorrow night. Thanks a lot for your feedback mate. Cheers Tim.
