On June 15 they released limited edition hard copies of the game. I bought one simply because my name is Adam and I was born on 6/15. Glad to know it's getting positive reviews.

Rare to hear someone praise Mystic Quest so that's cool. Some of the bigger sprites remind me of something out of Lufia 2. The battle system looks fun but the story/characters sound as dull as dishwater. Thanks for the useful video
@DariaPlaysRPGs7 жыл бұрын
There were definitely things I liked about Mystic Quest. As for the story, it wasn't bad. I liked the way it was presented. But it was pretty much: "Wow this guy's dad is an asshole." "A really big asshole" "Yep saw that coming".
@Darkkfated7 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest twist was that there was no redemption for Dad. He was just an asshole. The end.

Mystic Quest was Baby's First RPG. It's absolutely not a criticism, it taught me the ropes of the genre, and was a fun romp.

The story isn't anything crazy but it's enough to keep me going I like the puzzles and the really unique combat it's like mystic quest and ff vi with some lufia mixed in and the DLC is pretty challenging I've yet to beat this whole game but it was definitely worth my 10 dollars

Wanted to tell you: I've searched for an in depth review of this game for awhile, and you're is by far the most credible. I saw the big sites reviews, and they all seem to get stuck on the same lines: graphics, and how it stacks up to (usually) specific games. Just wanted to say thank you for this, and for all of your reviews. I'm coming to you from now on, before I go elsewhere. Your guides are dope too! The water garden puzzles were a pain in the was until I watched your walkthrough lol

Hey sorry I just saw this comment (KZbin can be flakey with notifications) wanted to say thank you. I haven't done, well really any other guides, but that puzzle was so frustrating I knew some other people were going to get stuck too. (:

I won't be starting it until this weekend, but I picked this up on your recommendation from the Mystic Quest video. The website looked like it was my kind of game (especially the humor in the feature descriptions) and this review further solidified that. I'm excited to play it, thanks for recommending it.

Just wanted to pop in and say: Great review! I agree with you on nearly every point. Personally I'd say If anyone here pines for the heydey of Squaresoft, this is an easy ($15) pick up. It's got engaging, fun, non-repetitive combat and a play-time that doesn't overstay its welcome (plus really good pixel art!)

Thank you! This was completely under my radar and finding it got me really excited to try a retro rpg in this vein. :)

It's really pretty, I like these old looking games reminding me of my childhood but in a much prettier way. There are so much more details in the graphics and the colours are vivid. The gameplay reminds me a bit of the phantasy star series on the genesis with characters seen from the back during battles and those were already great games back then. I'm definitely gonna add it to my list of games to play as soon as possible when I find some time in my busy schedule, thanks a lot Daria.

Great Review! Reminds me the GBA and SNES JRPGs of old and for the price ($14.99, currently $11.99) I’m definitely ready to jump into this game!

Thanks for the review. Your work on this particular video was very competent and engaging. I will buy this one next month. Just a quick advise: turn the music down a little. Sometimes it's hard to hear you voice. I believe this happens because my phone doesn't work well with high tones. Anyway, keep up the good work. I will be waiting for your next video. PS: Sorry any misspelling. English is not my first language.

I quite liked Shadows of Adam myself, the battle system was really pleasant to play indeed; same the puzzles, I also felt a bit dumb once I realized it was way easier than I anticipated xD My only complain is really the characters, both in personality and design wise. If they could at least somehow come up with something... different looking (?) it probably would have helped their personality a tiny bit, granted they are trapped in their archtypes since the beginning ^^" but overall it was worth the price and an enjoyable adventure ^^

I'm not really sure this whole RPG thing is going to take off outside of a primarily Dutch audience, but it's interesting to see there's already a history to them. How does it feel covering such a niche genre?

krikit maybe if I keep pointing them out maybe some day they'll catch on ;)

12 hours long?! Damn, that is really short for a RPG. I still remember being shocked when I finished Jade Cocoon in like 15 hours, when I was used to nearly 100 hours long FFs. Still the game looks good, I just hope it comes to Vita at some point.
@DariaPlaysRPGs7 жыл бұрын
Ooooo.... If it came to Vita I would definitely want a physical copy. O.O

This game has been on my radar for awhile since I first heard about it. Plus I was intrigued by the fact that the guy that created The Way (RPG Maker game) had a hand in it. I'll definitely get around to this sometime, hopefully sooner than later. I was always a fan of FFMQ's look and aesthetic, so I find the graphics and style of this game quite appealing. Would love to play this on the go though. Maybe one day it'll get a port to Vita/3DS/Switch?
@DariaPlaysRPGs7 жыл бұрын
Last night somebody posted on Reddit about the writer having been the creator of The Way. I never played it but considering that The Way is like the only RPG Maker game I've ever heard of I knew it had to have been pretty popular. :P

oh boy a mystic quest comparison. always a ringing endorsement. im glad you pointed out the snarky dialogue thing. ive noticed that becoming an increasingly annoying trend esp in indy games. it can be a little much at times sometimes just play it strait we dont need to poke fun or make the genre a joke allll the time
@Dongled7 жыл бұрын
Ahh! This triggered my comment before the video was re-uploaded. OK! It sounds like the devs created 1 personality for 4 characters, which is a shame. And yes, the graphics and music look and sound great here, right out of a Squaresoft classic.
@DariaPlaysRPGs7 жыл бұрын
I love snark. So it's saying something when it even started bugging me.
@Darkkfated7 жыл бұрын
The game is snarky and irreverent to a fault. It's a case of the writer thinking he's being much more clever/funny than he actually is. One of the weaker aspects of the game but the art direction and combat more than make up for it IMHO.
@MathewHaswell7 жыл бұрын
A lot of the extraneous snark in indie-games comes from devs wanting to be Working Designs, IMO.
@MathewHaswell7 жыл бұрын
Also, many devs seem to think that the only way to sell certain genres is to do-so with an eye-rolling narrative.

@@DariaPlaysRPGs Daria, I think you'd really like "Cosmic Star Heroine" if you haven't played it yet. I'm about 4 hours in and not in love with the characters yet, but it is a very good facsimile of the Chrono Trigger playstyle with some 21st-century gameplay features.

I still have yet to fully playthrough this game. I definitely need to play through it now after seeing some of later contents of the game. Though I am kind of bummed out about the fact the characters don't really develop much/ stand out as individuals in a sense. Great Video Daria! Stay Awesome!

Shame about the characters. I've noticed that's a pretty common thread in indie titles. They opt more toward snarky humor than unique characters, and it's largely to the detriment of the game. At least the game itself looks fun!
