This is one of my favorite videos of all time on KZbin. I hope to learn this piece so I can play it on my keyboard and post in the future. I actually constructed a MIDI for this and posted it on IMSLP in September 2014 as the site lacked a proper MIDI for the work of genius. I think it is sad that there is very little known about Dario Castello. He seemed to be about as innovative as Biagio Marini and Girolamo Frescobaldi during this transition period from Renaissance to Baroque. This sonata was ahead of its' time, parallels with what Antonio Vivaldi was doing a century later. I like how both the bass and treble instruments interact with each other with balance. Before, during the Renaissance, the bass instrument just kept the harmony and rhythm whilst the treble instrument played the complete melody. In this early baroque sonata, each instrument plays an important role at delivering the melody. The performance here is vibrant with a nice subdued historical tone. Thank you for this performance!

Dario Castello (né à Venise, 19 octobre 1602 (bapt.) et mort dans la même ville le 2 juillet 1631)[1] était un compositeur et violoniste italien du début du xviie siècle qui vécut et travailla à Venise. Il joua un rôle important dans la transformation de la canzona instrumentale en sonate.
