The point wasn't to say not to speak up for each other, but when a man speaks up for a woman it isn't for him to say he understands what woman go through, and not to put his experiences in the same categories as her. Because they are differ t types of wounds. Same as when a white person and black person are talking about racial issues. It isn't about who has gone through the most pain, it's just about understanding each other's issues. No need to compare the struggles, we all go through them.

Bullshit , because black people also give up their cultural identity, whites don't not the same struggle. Whites where never enslaved by blacks and blacks are not the majority. Most blacks have the slave masters last name and religion whites don't. A white female can falsely accuse a black male and everyone will believe her until further investigation in the mean while the black male gets dragged through the mud. A black male does not have any power in the United States as he is not the man of the dominant culture. Affirmative action benefited white females more than white males. I can go on. No comparison and they should not be compared. White female struggle is sketchy because white females produce white males with their counterparts and the offspring is first taught by the mother. So what are they teaching their male children and why are their male children growing up to be sexist and racist. That's the question to ask yourself not the one they tell to ask that's pc and makes everyone feel good.
@blueflare38484 жыл бұрын
Very true. Sure, there's stereotypes for men and forms of sexism directed at them, but it's not the same sexism that a woman faces. Same for black people and white people. They both face different problems and challenges. I'm not black so I'll never go through that type of racism. But just because I don't experience it or see it first hand doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I don't pretend to know what it's like to be black, but I do try to understand the problems they face.

This is powerful and beautiful. As a woman, this speaks to me. As someone who grew up a minority in my neighborhood/school and was treated like a science experiment or something to be poked at, this speaks to me. I have daughters and sons and IMO it is just as vital for my sons to watch this as it is for my daughters. Learning that women are not objects starts at home. Learning that colour has no bearing on whether we are good people and are worthy of affection and friendship starts at home. I can only hope that in my children's life times they will see the near eradication of sexism and racism. This world would be an infinitely better place.

@haruxi9 жыл бұрын
Status Q Is not necessarily the oppression olympics; it's about the narrowness of this representation. The poem addresses two issues, being black in America and being a woman in America, yet being black and a woman in America has a different complexity that this poem doesn't even touch. Most of the time feminism is reduced to the white woman experience...

I love this video so much. The message is beautiful. For those who aren't seeing the message and why they go silent at times: The people who suffer from issues and oppression are always hushed and silenced when they talk about that oppression. That is why they both speak for each other, the white woman speaking out on unjust treatment towards POC, and the black man speaking out on unjust treatment towards women. So so powerful. Someone who is TRULY oppressed will never hush the voice of another who is truly oppressed. They will take their words, hold them up, and speak them even louder.

As a teenager, I never knew these things existed. This kind of poetry, the performance. I absolutely love it. I'm so happy I came across this. I wish someone had shown me sooner. If only the whole world could see it. This poem is a gift. This is the kind of preaching I could see every week for hours, and actually understand and agree with. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be preached at church. Maybe. not the same thing over and over that everyone already knows. This is completely off topic, but I believe God would rather see everyone getting along and talking about the stuff that really matters on this earth right now, than he would people just talking about being holy and following every rule there is. I believe god doesn't judge. We all need to except each other because this is how the world is and this is how we're made. These people are amazing. Incredibly powerful, I really, really hope it can be spread and open peoples ignorant, stubborn eyes. We need more people like these two in the world. By the way, I don't care if you disagree. I'm not ashamed to say I believe there's a higher power watching us all, in a good way. It's cool if you don't agree with me, like I said, we need to except each other. But don't be dumb and try to start a fight because I genuinely don't care. Thanks for reading, if anyone did haha :)

"The problem with speaking up for each other is that everyone is left without a voice." Many misunderstood this. They are not saying not to stand up for them. They are saying that unless you are a woman or you are black, etc, you do not know the struggles. You can not say. To try to, takes away from them. When you stand up for yourself, you lead. When you stand up for others, you follow. In the process of following, you show your support, but you let them be heard. You have their back.
