Do you remember what everyday life in the early days of DAoC looked like? You log in and first consider whether it's worth taking a look over the next hill to see if there's a good spot for some XP. You start running and initially see nothing, continuing over the next hill and then another. Be careful not to get lost, because death lurks everywhere. Suddenly, you see another player who is 2 levels above you. You greet each other, and you ask where he has been gathering his last XP. He says, "Come with me, I'll help you." So you continue running, and you ask if there's a stone to bind somewhere. You take a little detour, and eventually you arrive at a huge plain, green grass and enemies everywhere. As you fight enemies together for some time, you get into a conversation and eventually develop a good friendship. Compare this to todays standards. Its a shame

thats really awesome. my big brother was 18 when daoc came out, I was 11. Because of my brother I got invited to the guild. my english wasn't very good yet. It was one of the best experiences of my life, playing DAOC and getting to know the guild and becoming level 50. Going around in all the scary places as a Berserker. Like.. muspelheim. Getting to lvl 45 or so, and trying to get to Malmohus experience grounds! and the journey to get the epic armor and going out in the frontier for the first time. thats just a few of the many awesome times

I played a highlander/polearm on albion palomides before seeing the light and switching to midgard on gawaine. 20 years later I still fondly remember the good times. Now, how do I even remember the server names for this amount of time? Well, there you go. We were simply so proud of the community, the identity. We are still searching for something as good. Some have. I gave up. Life goes on. But I still remember rolling around the old frontiers of Emain. Good times.

Played a Sorcerer. Everyone thought the class was weak. Mezzed entire armies. People thought the class should be nerfed. People knew me without ever meeting me. Strangers shared their accounts with me. Some girl was into me; I liked her too. But I was clueless and not very emotionally tuned. DAoC really helped me grow as a person. Wrote about it in college. I've lived twice as many years since then, and it's still one of my greatest memories. Truly, truly the best game I will ever play.

I kind of miss those days.. badly sometimes. And I don't think it's just about the game. it's about when I was 20 years younger I'm 45 now certainly I loved playing. I played it for 8 years maybe close to 9 years. I kind of soloed alot. I was a loner. A lot of times I would bring my cleric with me as close as I could get it, because I had two computers at the time my old one and the newest one I had built. For so long I would get off work, come home, and start the game up, and see if there was a fight for the relics yet. You know the more I think about it playing for eight years I really can't remember how I dealt with not playing anymore. I mean seemingly I guess it didn't bother me but maybe it did underneath. I don't know... I'm just talking out of my **** while I'm sitting here daydreaming about the old game

5 years since my last post and it still tears my heart out that no one has come forward to buy this project. A person of vision could run this through Unreal Engine and update the music with new orchestration. No one will think twice about doing that. But if one person does one day invest the money to get it done, 50 studios will suddenly try to copy it. Imagine seeing Hibernia and its incomparable Celtic lore, King Arthur's mythical Albion in a time when Merlin still stalked in the mists of Dyfed and Lyoness. Imagine what the Norse lands of Scandinavia would look like when brought to life. Imagine epic, Howard Shore-styled music and beautiful graphics. Dark Age of Camelot (Reborn) might not replace a cash shop grinder that appeals to a cosmetic audience, but it would be the best offering for RPG gamers who miss the essence of what a massively multiplayer ROLE-PLAYING game used to be or in this, never truly was. One day.

Hi Merk, thank you for your continuous effort. It's such a niche audience you are catering to here, thanks for doing this! I'm coming back to your DAoC ambience recording in very regular intervals, it really carries me back to some fond teenage memories. And I'm glad to see I'm not alone here ;) More technically, I'm noticing some noisy distortions in the tracks... May I ask, how did you record it? Is it part of the game client or did you record with your sound card in "stereo mix" mode? Since this approach tends to produce noise like that, maybe the WASAPI feature of Windows might produce better results? Anyways, thanks for the effort, it's really very much appreciated!

I remember sneaking around the frontiers as a scout keeping tabs on hunting groups here and there...try to pick off some stragglers and sneak away. Was a fun group vs group pvp experience, as well, but eventually the whole game turning into a speed zergfest ruined it for me. Gone were the days of being able to get a group and be viable out in the frontiers. I was also around during the drama where opposing players found a way to sneak into the other realm PvE areas. Everyone from all sides were getting all excited, even the realms being invaded...we would have lil manhunts lol.
