Dark and Darker Longsword Masterclass | Updated Parry Guide for Skeletons and Other PvEin Crypts

This is our dark and darker longsword masterclass updated parry guide for skeletons and other pve in crypts. I know a lot of y'all are running longswords in the crypts and being able to confidently and consistently parry the mobs helps clear rooms quicker so you don't get blindsided by PvP while still clearing rooms. This is our longsword masterclass parrying PvE in crypts!
Lemme know if this video is a good length for PvE or if I need to break it down into shorter individual PvE videos. Goblin caves up next for PvE but hopefully have the clips to do some of the Barbarian PvP masterclass videos!

I used to be able to parry and kill skeleton champs super reliably. Ever since EA came out I've been having issues with the spacing. Appreciate the vid 👌👌

Yeah longsword seems to have had something happen to it since EA went live with the hitbox of it.

Excellent. Not sure what they did to longsword parry recently but it is super inconsistent with weapons phasing through the longsword and very often my character as well.

It might have something to do with the lackluster quality of the servers instead of the weapon itself, I've been very laggy and rubberbanding all over the place.

Found this as well when the game dropped. 100% felt like the weapon was completely different for almost the entire first week. lol. Like imperial said, could just be server quality is worse and throwing things off

For skele champion if you have ok movespeed you can bait out the entire 3-piece by dipping in after each swing, parry the shield bash, and get 1 (maybe 2?) ripostes for free while he cools down. It's what i do in gob caves for middle room usually. Granted it wastes more time letting him attack more, I'd have to solve for time spent to see if it's worth it. I also find the shield exceptionally easy to parry given it's large hitbox

@@oggieson yeah 100% I've been focusing more on putting the tip of the blade where it needs to go instead of where to put the crosshair and thats also been helping

Hey Oggi, It's been super interesting watching your videos. I've pretty much re-learned the longsword for EA on my own and have found a very different set of techniques for most of the skeletons. The techniques change quite a bit when crouching whether they are more consistent or easier to learn not I'm not sure. I'll have to try some of these out and let you know.

for the wraith im getting consistent on parrying his lounge attack, it's the same concept of how you do it with axe skeletons you should try it, i think it's possible to get it consistently

Greatsword skellies I've found some consistency in pushing right up against them and putting the tip of my sword into their hilt/grip to trigger parry. Axe skellies I have had some luck doing the same with their overheads/horizontals, but it's not super consistent. Guardsmen skellies I'm convinced have bugged hitboxes. They make no sense.

Need a solid parry strat vs Horseman axe barbarians. If i don't have a shield they run over me with the achilles strike + horseman if I can't block to clear the buff

Thanks for another video. I've noticed sometimes when I hit a monster, I'll click again after the first hit but it doesn't continue the usual 3 attack combo. Do you know what buttons or keys might be breaking this combo or usual swing motions?

to continue the combo you have to either click at the end of the first attack animation or hold the attack button, its more consistent to hold left click. if youre talking about parrying, you block by holding right click, then to repost you have to click and hold right mouse button or spam click

Working on getting the clips for rapier parries still! In the mean time, attempt to bait/tank first hit and get them to try and hit you in the head with the second. Put the cross hard about a heads width to the right directly in line with their head to parry that second hit.

In PvP I run down a lot by people just spamming attack with a faster weapon. It's pretty difficult to punish them after a lot of practice. Wish movement was a bit faster with the long sword or parrying was a bit more consistent or at least more intuitive. Lots of stuff seems to just phase right through

for the champion, can you parry both attacks in the combo and then only riposte the second one? Seems like trying to riposte the first attack is just asking to get hit

Riposting after the second attack seems to be the most consistent window to trade without taking damage.

i still struggle on getting that 3 swing combo. I click right click for pierce but my attack pattern is still forward pierce? Any idea? And im learning how to repost. Is there a timing when to right click after block?

The three swing combo is the basic attack chain? The riposte you just have to right click within about half a second after a parry in order to get those attacks unlocked.

whats the benefit to parrying? just seems like slower animations compared to 1 shotting weapons like a halberd or bardiche...

The riposte is way faster than a halberd, and does more damage, the biggest downside is having to catch your opponents weapon with the parry, it's not really viable as a way to defend against attacks, most of the time you're trying to stay out of range and force the tip of their weapon to hit the tip of the longsword.

Halberd and bardiche are much slower and clunkier swing animations in comparison to the longsword which offers slightly less straightforward damage and reach but has a much broader range of play styles with the ability to keep the offensive/defensive pace in a fight with the presence of parry. One bad swing from your opponent and you can maneuver to get 2 huge (like 140%dmg modifier afaik) hits in in the time it takes them to recover
