I know the song is about either a cursed necklace or her parents expectations but I have a sort of different interpretation of the song. I believe that it is about a kid that wishes to be perfect in every way. Basically she wishes to be praised for being the most popular and smart student, placing top in all exams. As she grows older, the pressure from trying to be perfect causes her to feel a choking sensation, either out of anxiety or fear. Her mind tries to keep forcing her to be the best that she eventually tries to find a lover to get her free but pushes them away unconsciously. The more she grows, the more the pressure chokes her until finally, like you said, she breaks into a mess of anxiety, fear, and possible depression. This is just my take on it though. It may be too far fetched but it's better than what I could come up with for a story.

this song always reminded me of those kids in school who cry when they get anything but a %100 on an assignment. so personally i think the necklace represents both the expectations she puts on herself and the expectations her parents put on her. like when she was younger it was easier to please them because getting good grades was easy. As school and life became more difficult it became harder and harder to meet those expectations even though the expectations have not changed.

As someone who has been listening to Kikuo for a while, I recommend "Don't look at me in that way". It doesn't really sound creepy, but the lyrics are pretty dark even if the song sounds a bit happy. It's so easy to please the adults you love when you're a kid - be cute, a bit smart, and they'll show you around like a perfectly trained puppy. But then you grow up and the criteria for triggering all those "oooh" and "aah" of admiration change and become so much more complex. It's harder and demands more energy to get the same amount of love and praise. In the end you can try to get that from less demanding people, using your charm and smile that made people coo not so long ago - but no love can replace the one you're actually craving. Ultimately, self-love and self acceptance is the key. Listen to people's advice but carve your own path, and remember to praise yourself for the hard work nobody sees or understands :)

So this song is about good-child syndrome. It's a psychological condition that makes you want to please everyone. She wants to please her parents so she'll do whatever it takes even if it means bodily harm. The necklace represents the expectations that she's trying to fulfill by getting good grades and doing what everyone expects from her. The expectations however, increase with age so the necklace gets tighter and tighter until it starts to choke her which can be seen as a lot of pressure being put on a child. that's why she falls in love with someone that is so "filthy". She wants to be like that person even though they are lesser than her. She needs someone to put pressure on to relieve the choking and pain that she feels.

So here’s what i think: It starts off with this girl. I feel her parents are forcing her to be like perfect. I think they’re expecting a lot from her, and she still doesn’t feel loved by them, so she’s trying to be absolutely perfect to make them happy. She starts going a bit off the rails drowning herself in expectations and anxiety as for anything else going on mentally. She is clearly overworking and overwhelming herself with being perfection. To be the perfect child. Later on in high school she is still the best in the school, but somehow she still feels it’s not enough. She is still not being loved or treated with the compassion that she is yearning for. She thinks having the perfect life with fill that empty space, so she is confessing to you, who i assume would be the ideal lover in a cliche movie or anime. So she confesses to you, even though she doesn’t really feel like she loves you and only likes more so the idea of having you as a couple. She assumes that since she has everything, and is so perfect a human, with a perfect life she should be happy, but is confused because she doesn’t feel anything. She assumes this is what she wants or even needs, but she still doesn’t feel the love she’s craving, to fill the void within her. As for the necklace, I believe they relate or use the necklace as a way to describe the expectation or pressure put on her from, starting off as, her parents. The necklace represents the their expectations given to her at a young age. She wears the necklace no matter what, showing that she’s pushing herself to be the best version of herself. The necklace says in the song “I want more people! I want more people!” This to me is to show her feeling like she’s not good enough or needs to be better because of all the pressure and standards forced upon her. She wears this necklace throughout her life, but as she gets older, she begins to outgrow the necklace, however, she still wears it around her neck even though it’s suffocating her. This represents her stress and pressure finally getting to her, but she still not letting it out, or not letting herself take a breath ironically. I believe her having to wear this tight necklace for the rest of her life is what the “curse” is. The phrase “dont bottle up your emotions because sooner or later the lid will break”, or in other variations, “the glass will shatter” plays a role in the plot. Her outgrowing the necklace shows her emotions are piling up and getting worse, which is why the choker keeps getting tighter and suffocating her. She tries to be perfect, hoping that will satisfy her or her loved ones, who are clearly not showing her love, but never does only leaving her wanting more or feeling like she has to do more. This song really does accurately show golden child syndrome. I remember when I was little (well the best I can, most memories of my childhood are repressed) my mom would always brag about me and how perfect I was, acing every subject. I had to be perfect since I thought that was all I was good for. But as I grew older, as I became more depressed and more anxious and more angry at her, myself, and the world, my grades slipped. I started getting Bs. Then Cs. Then Ds. Then Fs. Her expectations never lowered (like how the necklace never was loosened) She told me I would be a janitor or a bus driver and that I wouldn't succeed in life. She never bragged about me anymore. Except for my singing. Opera, Chorus, Solos, A cappella. At least I had some use. But I practiced less and less and got yelled at, saying I would never be successful again. It's better with that now. I do what she wants to make her happy. I'm back to As and Bs. Though even though she (sometimes, sometimes she yells, its half and half) says it's fine, I can still see the disappointment in her eyes. Though I miss being her perfect child and being loved that much, I know I'm trying (though it's still not enough for me and her). I have panic attacks over even the possibility of scoring a high B. (TW: Mentioned (not described) S/H, Sui attempt, ED) (Im doing better with those triggering things tho, lots of therapy) I stopped eating to make her happy with my (now I know it was and is again since I got betteraverage) body. Been S/Hing since I was a kid, but I'm clean now. Her face when we were in the hospital when she found a sui note. That hurt more than anything. Didn't get put in a psych ward though. Because even if I'm no longer perfect, she still believed my dumb excuses ("Writing sui notes is a coping mechanism!!", even though thats not the first time Ive said I wanted to do something like that or drawn concerning things) because her child was too good for that, right? But don't worry /srs, I'm doing a lot better by distracting myself, therapy, and constantly seeing friends (or well 3 specific friends but). Just 1 and a half more years til I can leave the house, get into a good college, and prove to her that I'm still good.

A lot of people say this song is about good child syndrome, but personally I read it to be a lot similar to BPD? The need for love so intense it hurts, the need for validation and affection, the second prechorus describes splitting in BPD wonderfully ("Seem like a lie? I like you, you who are so filthy,"). "I'll give you everything, I'll have you shoulder everything for me, it hurts." is a really common BPD experience. Also, the fact it's described as a "curse" is REALLY common throughout people with BPD. I think people are talking the lyric of "nice grades right" and running with it literally, but I think it's a small example of an all encompassing bpd experience (ie, "theyre good right? you like me right? you think im cute?" common bpd need for reassurance..) plus, "you're not enough" BUT "i wont let you go" could further describe the experience of chronic loneliness; and youre put into a standard where regular love doesnt feel fulfilling, since youre so used to mindless obsession and a NEED for love (im saying this as a person w BPD)

Two different stories, 1st - It’s about a ( cursed ) necklace that the person finds and they put it on, as they go on in life. The necklace represents their self-esteem/ego, and the necklace is small and never changes size. Which causes the person to choke, and the only way to break the curse is to find a lover. The self-esteem and ego goes down as they think their efforts will never succeed. And it causes the self esteem and ego to drop specifically to the ground. 2nd - A girl has good child syndrome, and tries to be the best and greatest for their parents to get supported and loved instead of being used everyday. I don’t know much, but as they grow the difficulties of being the greatest for their parents rise and you can’t get the same love as the circumstances and expectations grow and grow.

The song is basically about "Golden Child Syndrome" which basically about a child who is deemed a "prodigy" at a young age or is told that they're "above the rest" as a child by their parents (or any family member). So the child grows up trying to live up to the standard everyone is portraying them as and thats where the "choking" metaphor the artist used comes in. The choking is supposed to represent the stress and disappointment of not living up to the high standards people put you to. Then the "i want more people" metaphor is the child wanting validation from others to make up for not living up to their parents expectations.

i used to listen to this so much when i was 14. i never quite understood the lyrics but the "hey, hey, aren't i a good kid?" lyric stuck out to me and resonated with me.i'm 20 going on 21 this year, and the second interpretation of the song hit me like a truck. it's kind of sad from that lense, how drawn i was to this song and similar songs by kikuo, and i still am drawn to their music because of the lyrical relevance to my own experiences. good video.

Due to the whole confession bit, I like to think that she’s trying to become perfect to get the attention of her crush, kind of like one of those the bully catches feelings for the victim scenarios. But as she gets more and more “perfect,” the more she looks down on others, which brings about the filthy line. i personally think that the necklace resembles expectations and love from others, hence "no matter how big you grow the necklace remains small." i believe it means that childish expectations and love don't stay forever, and eventually you will lose the love because you have lost your cuteness. Heres my understanding of the song: Its this girl who hates herself, tries to grasp onto anything so she can be perfect "the necklace" is herself telling her to do more and become more "perfect" soon this became torture (sełf h@rming) and she still acted perfect. At the part when it says "standing alone in the yard from me to you confessing my heart" its her telling herself "look im doing good can i stop being perfect now" but she cant stop. She tries to grasp onto anyone who will believe her lies. Inside she was slowly falling apart. So now that he necklace was growing on her choking her ment that she was now reaching her breaking point. Ok ok i ranted, but its my point of veiw.

I always thought that the necklace symbolized the attention the girl wants. I thought that she wasn’t getting love and care at home ( aren’t i a good child; cute child; hey look at me) and she eventually started seeking it from other people. The lyrics “ no matter how big your body grows, the necklace stays the same size” could symbolize that she needs more. The tighter it gets, the more attention she wants, which is why she says “better than that kid, better than all of you, hey everyone, look at me” when she eventually finds a love interest, she confesses to him, but he dose not feel the same (this is the part I’m not so sure about), so she calls him filthy. She snaps and that leads to the end of the song. and I’m guessing that she says “this is happiness, right?” At the end of the song, because she has never felt true happiness- thats just what I’ve gotten out of it. Im not so sure about the ending though. :\

I relate to this song so much. I grew up with neglectful parents and I often feel like I need to be the best, and to be perfect in order to be loved. And I’ve craved someone to love me just because they can. It’s taken a lot of time and effort for me to slowly let go of that mentality. I still think like that sometimes though.

With soundcloud rappers or rappers that aren’t so popular like takayan express human problems and what we deal with everyday. For example, “Takayan - I hate myself” , “Takayan - Killed by period pains and depression” he gets the pain and anxiety of girls and others who hate themselves. I remember this song! I always took it as a girl who never really received loved and intern tried to be perfect because she believes that’s what love is about, if she’s not perfect then she can’t receive love, but the more loves she receives the more she wants it because love is very beautiful but can also be addicting. Addiction of love is an actual thing that’s not really talked about a lot or understood, people who are addicted to love trying everything they can to receive that love even if it’s hurting others in the process. The “necklace” is her addiction, asking for more and more and without this love, Like what addiction does to many people, affected her and made her desperate, doing reckless things to revive just some amount of love. I actually really like this song because it relates to one of my ocs ( who’s actually a creepypasta oc :/ ) She never really received love as a child and even as an adult ( around her late 20s ) still haven’t. As a child she was addicted to the small amounts of love she received and was desperate for more While she’s not like this as a grown woman if she were to gain a lover then her addiction would come back, asking for more and more love until it suffocates her and break her apart. Essentially love is like a bad thing for my oc, but not because “GRRR I DONT NEED LOVE ITS BAD!!1!1!1!1!” But because of all the psychological trama she’s been though. But yea, I do really like this song

I'm pretty sure that's what happened to me, and I didn't even realize until the past couple of years Have your parents ever said you're too sensitive, that you have no reason to cry? Have they gotten angry when you didn't understand why? Have you felt disconnected, misunderstood, unloved by your parents even semi consistently? All those are signs you could've been emotionally neglected (I relate to all of them ;;) Emotional neglect is SO insidious since so many people experience it and it's so invisible. It's hard to trust your gut when it comes to this stuff... But if you did, it's REAL and it happened and no one can take that from you
