@@spun1930 I know the feel bro, I played the first one because it came with my PS2 as a bundle. I had it since I was 6 but didn’t finished it until I was 8 because of my limited English at the time. I was interested in the second one when I saw it on a game magazine but my mom couldn’t afford it. I finally got to play part 2 because my uncle bought it before he went on an army drill for a few days. He still lived at my grandma’s place at the time he was young (around 21) so I sneaked in his room, brought my memory card so I could play it on his PS2 yet keep the progress. When he came back from the army drill while I was in school he sold all most his games without telling me to some random dude, including you GUESSED IT “Dark Cloud 2” I didn’t make it too far I was only in the second area which is the Forrest area, I couldn’t figure out how to get through the star path at the rainbow butterfly Forrest. I thought I was stuck, 16 years later at 21 years old I replayed the game on PS4 and finally finished it, and figured out you’re not meant to access that area until chapter 6 💀 I always wanted to revisit and finish dark cloud 2, I’m so happy I got to play it. Today I was revisiting DC2 at 25 years old on the PS5 to get the remaining trophies 🏆. The game is an absolute Gem, top 3 RPG games for the PS2 alongside Final Fantasy 10 and Kingdom hearts 2.

The only way that will happen is if you use an emulator. The reason is the same reason there is no dark cloud 3. The IP is co-owned by Sony. I am not saying it will never happen, but highly doubtful.

Idky but I have they changed the name. As someone who owned the primo guides until last year when my mom's home got condemned, I really appreciate both games not just the sequel. I actually loved the first one and I hate that everyone else gets the attention first, sports war, I swear these games should've been ported along time ago. And I dare say all this fuckery is a cash grab now that we can emu Nintendo's switch, PSP and much more I'm assuming. That's why I'm upset. I'd gladly give you my twenty-thirty, even sixty for an appropriate remake like re2. I haven't been a rpg fan in a decade, wtf going on here.

I've been running this emulated on PC at 4K resolution for a while and this game is so beautiful. I'm happy that this game is getting a console remaster so this game can gather a bigger following and hopefully get a sequel.

tbh i love this game so much, i bought the ps4 for the sole purpose to rebuy Dark Cloud 2 because it was my childhood. but i hardly even noticed the small clean ups they did with the graphics. i was too into beating the game to pay attention to the fresh new images.

Is there even a difference? This is a PS2 classic. Straight emulation, not a HD remaster. Not that it matters in the least. This masterpiece of a game looks great regardless.

There won’t be a visible difference for these. I actually have the game on an emulator and am able to change the internal resolution. I can get it all the way up to 4K resolution, and it honestly makes the game look quite good! However the clips that play when idling are the menu are not affected by the resolution. In game cutscenes are though

pcsx2 at a high res looks so much better than the ps4 version its crazy. Upscaling almost looks like only 720p (4:3 equivalent). They should have aimed for 3072 x 2490

I'm still mad white knight chronicles was split into 3 games....white knight chronicles was supposed to be the dark cloud of ps3 but it literally only had 30 hours of gameplay...meanwhile I have multiple completions of dark cloud 2 all 60-110 hours. Atleast this shows sony is still aware dark cloud exists as an ip lol

Buying it sparks a interest. Level 5 and Sony will know people still like the series and want more. People can tell them, but without sales proof they won't bother. So that's why a lot of people got it on PS4 either to play it again without spending a lot of money or to support the franchise.

Have you tried rogue galaxy? It's one of the last amazing RPGs for PS2, and, like DC & DC2, was also made by level-5. Both dark cloud2 and rogue galaxy are fabulous but in a bit different way

the fluidity of ps2 games will never be emulated by ps4, they lagg alot, and anyone who knows ps2 will see it. old ps2 games played on a new ps2 will perform fluidly, no dragging or lagging even though the graphics are nowhere near the level of nowadays. There's also a certain feel for it that can't be replicated. If they put more effort into the emulation for gameplay i would be impressed, but they kinda didnt XP (jak and daxter games as evidence as well)

nothing matches the ps2 version. the ps4 version's textures look like textures plastered on polygons, the ps2 version (the version the game is designed for) has textures that feel more realistic because of the way crt tvs are rendered. anyone reading this get yourself a crt and a ps2 to play this game

Download torrent of the ps2 game file, run it with an emulator. If you mange to get a graphic engine boost fo work with the game, you'd have the same graphics the ps4 has (Besides higher res textures IF they made any new ones)

Ralph Pogai Late reply, sorry: Sony was the publisher, so yes - PS4 exclusive. You can play perhaps on a PC emulator, but I'd only recommend it if you don't have a PS4: unlike the physical market, where devs lose residuals once a game goes out of print and the market value entirely favors used games resellers, buying Dark Cloud 2 digitally definitely helps Level 5. If you don't have a PS4, there are decent PS2 emulators afaik (can't say for certain though) Having said that, I definitely can't fault someone who wants to play it but has no access to an available platform for using an emulator - it's better than the elitist types who just want to pirate because they believe 'PC is better' and 'only losers pay for games' Game Dev Tycoon trolled pirates for a good reason - it was an indie game, so it made more sense why piracy was a big problem for them, and why pirates didn't deserve access to their game (funny enough, a couple were called out on Steam because they thought their game was broken, before the devs swooped in and explained to them that the game was unbeatable because they torrented a copy) but Dark Cloud 2 was just on sale on PS4 for less than $9 - that's hardly a ripoff, and certainly doesn't make the prospect of 'illegally download this game to save literally a few dollars at most' any more inviting.

Yeah, basically just the internal screen resolution was increased. You can achieve the same (and more, up to 8k+) effect on an emulator. =)
