you hold down a build unit button. every race can do it but it shows up most often for zerg players due to the way their macro works.

Normal RTS games have had things like shift-click to queue multiple units with a single command or dragging a command to spread out an order a line or area, but StarCraft II sometimes feels like it was released in 2002 instead of 2010. See, Zerg players edit the rate at which their Windows register keypress intervals for certain keys. Holding down a key then results in a very high number of keypresses registered by the OS and sent to the game, and that's how, for example, they order 20 lings to be built in a split-second, or do ravager corrosive bile barrages. It's called "rapid-fire", and there may be an ingame option associated with it, too, but idk.
