Part 2 of this Drew Barrymore documentary dives in to her childhood and youth after being emancipated from her mother Jaid Barrymore at 15. The continued struggle in the relationship with her father, John Drew Barrymore, and most importantly, the battle and struggles to find herself.
Starting with success of her tell all book "Little Girl Lost", her both shocking and heart warming adolescent interviews, and her re-emergence into Hollywood.
Then exploring Drew's first marriage and divorce, the wild antics she carried into her 20s, the provocative roles that helped get her back on the big screen, and her coming to terms with the bottomless empty shell that was her father...

@tezzmosis if you end up making a video on Amanda Bynes just hope you know she actually consciously was seeking help from a stranger on the street and called 911 herself after realizing she was coming down from a psychotic episode. She internalized herself into a hospital. Not the other way around the way some media outlets might make it out to be.

This documentary is amazing. As a GenXer the nostalgia and unlocked memories are intense. It's so sad how much trauma came out of this generation of performers, being treated like an object and having no agency had to have been awful. A couple years ago Soleil Moon Frye did that amazing movie with her home movies from this same time frame and I had the same feeling of sadness mixed with awe at the memories. Drew has always seemed so genuine and to me at least she stood out from the crowd like a sunbeam shone from her, seeing her become SO successful as an adult is incredibly satisfying. Peace to everyone

Yes Kid 90! There are a handful of similar docs that reveal more about the behind the scenes stuff, the tragedy and trauma. Reassurances that how I'm reading into things is pretty much bang on. There is a lot of darkness surrounding them all, it's all coming to the light now.

But for all the others still here with us especially (KeanuR & Johnny Depp) they are 2 wonderful and beautiful people. No I've never met them but I just feel the beauty inside as well as outside. @tezzmosis
@tezzmosis Жыл бұрын
@@localtran That is not even close to what I did. I was speculating which film/actor. Not which specific scene, that would be impossible, and if you watched any of the movies you'd see that. You'd also see I showed the most mild parts as possible, for censorship reasons first off as well as not wanting to re-victimize these girls in the process. In order to show what was considered entertainment then, that seems like blatant abuse of these young stars to me, I have to show a small portion of the media.. Pictures and words don't convey the message as well as the actual media does.

@@localtran What really grosses me out is the way she was treated by the adults that should've protected her, like her mother, her father, or anyone. How can they let a girl so young become a drug addict? She was abused way before that movie. That is she trying to take control of her own life and make the most of it.

Yaa he seemed a little concerned she brought it up, then he relaxed when she was only talking about the ride itself. Kind of feigned not even remembering it... My guess is more happened and it probably wasn't as okay as she made it out to be, and he doesn't feel great about it...but of all the more dire situations with MUCH older men. This would be a situation she likely felt she willingly chose and wouldn't cause any trauma. If anything had indeed happened...

Wow, these documentaries about Drew have really opened my eyes. I’ve since gone back and watched your other videos…let me just say how tasteful and factual your videos are. It’s astonishing the amount of information and clips you’ve included. I feel like I’ve immersed myself into Drew’s life which I knew very little about. She has really blossomed into such a smart and wonderful woman. Despite all the turmoil she has overcome. I have lived through traumas passed down through generations and even drug abuse, and at an early age I’ve had to set boundaries for myself with drugs and alcohol. I praise you for your time put into these videos, and I thank you. Xox

Thank you so much Hannah! Yes well, it's been nearly a year since I had first begun researching and taking notes for this. Took a lot of time, as well as blood, sweat and tears to get to this point! So I am so glad to get such great positive feedback! I do get some haters commenting on the "side quests" so comments like these hit a lot harder, in a good way! Oh yes, thankfully the worst is mostly over as far as exploring the deepest darkest depths of her life. The latter part she has seemed to come into herself quite well, and carved out a glorious pathway, with no thanks to either of her parents I may add. I hear that. I have always been extra careful and have been strict with myself when dabbling with ANYTHING that has the potential for addictive or habitual bonds. As there is definitely generational curses in my family too.. On both sides. I put a lot of myself into these, and they're for my soul tribe, not for the masses. Happy for you to join us =] With that said, your words really do mean a lot. Thank you for taking the time to watch and share your praise. ✨💙

You obviously did so much work for this! So amazing. My friend was best friends with Jonathan Brandis and he said they would call girls who would leave their numbers on fan mail and just be teenage boys. I love to hear that. He was a child actor too and has so many stories. Such a scary time for child actors.

Coming up to almost a year since I first began researching for Drew, reading her first book and all that... it's amazing to finally be able to get completed parts out to the world and to be getting such good feedback. Yea I feel like too many biographical things focus so much on the bad things the person is doing, and not so much on all the bad things that happened to them, and those around them. I could never find videos/documentaries with as much info as I would have liked. That's a neat anecdote about Brandis! He seemed like a really good soul. Thanks for the great comment, and for sharing. ✨💙

Was a terrible time to be an adolescent, I’m the same age as Drew and I do remember females were only put in two categories: innocent tomboyish or whore. I hated growing up then, and men were so creepy, 13 year olds in my class were dating 18 and over guys and bragging about the sex and it was worn as a badge of honor. If you didn’t put out you were labeled a prude or a possible lesbian (nothing wrong with that, it’s just ridiculous that guys would try to use that to shame you to put out) rather than having self respect and wanting to wait until being 18 plus. Friends of mine had abortions at 14 and 15 and the men left them after. I know worse went on for girls before my generation and I feel for them. But we were also a generation of brainwashed females (I had a strong mother who told it all to me straight and what happened to women in her generation and how she learned from their stories not to be taken advantage of or assaulted. So grateful for her, but my friends’ mothers were rather repressed and they also were not mature enough to understand that the attention these older boys/ men were giving them was wrong and illegal. I saw through all the bs and just knew I wasn’t emotionally ready for intimacy for a looong time. Now they are all messed up and super repressive towards their own teen girls and are doing it all wrong. Have a truthful and intelligent conversation with your young people (boys and girls) and explain the consequences to early sexual exposure and tell them the difference between illegal and legal. So they know how not to be exploited or violated. I am thankful that I have never had any situation (I am also very wary) that was not consensual and respectful.

@@MeatyPeach Yes! Well put, that's exactly it. There is always a much bigger story happening behind the scenes, and there's no easy way to tell it, but starting with one person as a "hub", and then exploring the darkness around them is where the truth lies. Seeing the consistencies and what paths seems to overlap the most, and which had the worst outcomes. Not accusing any one specifically of any wrongdoing without actual convictions or evidence, but seems to be a lot of people become addicts, die under suspicious circumstances, or end their own lives. Accidentally or on purpose, more so after working with certain directors and companies. You really can't go all out making any baseless accusations, but what you can do is paint that picture, and let people fill in the blanks themselves. If you're going all the way back, you will notice the birth of the series is basically River Phoenix. Rising from the ashes after death, in such a way, and being the poster child of young Hollywood untimely deaths. The inner hub for the voiceless and forgotten. He was a perfect beginning for the series, being a bridge between the music scene and the film industry. There is a lot of darkness within both, and they all cross paths more than we know. So. Many. Layers.

You know, people who work in this industry in all capacities know what goes on, yet no one warns the parents, even anonymously, that they need to supervise their children closely? The kids truly aren’t cared about and are just a commodity to be used and exploited for however long.

1:53 Conan and Andy, doing the "ow, ow, ow, owee" and it was written on the Q-Cards, for Drew's Guess jeans modeling. LOL. Very cute. I forgot about the movie "Bad Girls" I am going to look for that one. ( Drew, Mary Stuart Masterson, Andy McDowell, and Madelaine Stowe), Four gorgeous bandits in a pretty good flick. I haven't seen it for a couple of decades but back then I probably watched it at least 6 times back then. All of them were absolutely gorgeous. LOL. Tezzmosis: Thank you for this. You obviously put in a lots of time finding out all of this information and putting together over 3 1/2 hours in part 2 for great entertainment. I really appreciated that you included the side stories about the other actors somehow associated with Drew's story. Great job!

Thank you Ali! There will be another two more 2.5 hour parts coming soon ✌️🙂 I wanted to have the full Brittany Murphy set done before moving forward, because their stories do intertwine in some big ways. Her early demise would have absolutely had an impact on Drew and her timeline. They had become real life besties while filming "Riding in Cars with Boys", a friendship that I think would have been good for both of them had there been a chance for it to last. I aim to give a spotlight to those lost along the way, while delivering a super sized serving of nostalgia 📺

Yeah she was like a giddy little school girl after the fact, and you could tell she had shocked herself and felt a little embarrassed, but he kept it light. Obv at that point she was an adult woman and there wasn't really anything wrong with it, but the poor little girl inside wishing she could just have the strictly paternal care and attention.. It's a sad story, but yes she seems to be a great mom, very committed and dedicated to making sure they have a wholesome and as normal a childhood as possible! Gives hope to those trying to break their own generational curses.

I hear some today say "Kids have it too easy" "They need safe spaces" "They're snowflakes" etc. It's because children born in the same era as Drew have horror stories they won't let their children face if they can help it. We raised our children to speak up when abused, harassed, or bullied because we care, we don't want them to suffer as we had.

So sad how the people who were supposed to protect these little girls turning into women and even boys into men as they age, subjected and neglected them leaving them in the hands of these monsters. The part with the one actress who was raped during filming, should have NEVER HAPPENED!!!!! 😮😡They should have not gotten away with this and yet they do….all the time. If it’s not happening on the sets it’s happening at these “parties” or elsewhere behind closed doors. We may never know exactly all the evil that happens in Hollywood but it is truly sickening. Oh and let’s not forget the poor little girl who was murdered and her murder swept under the rug and a shoe made with her skin. It took me awhile to finish this documentary bc there are SOO many details in these and sometimes they can be hard to follow since they move from one person to another quite often. So sad!!!! It looks glamorous to the outside world but it’s pure evil. I can see why actors and actresses use alcohol, drugs and even suicide to escape these this evil. Truly heartbreaking, ty for opening our eyes to the reality.

Yes, I can understand needing to take in small doses. This is also why this project specifically has taken so much time. Drew passed thru so many different dark circles starting at such a young age. She is like a beacon thru the darkness, she somehow made it out the other side alive, but not without collateral damage and casualties. Child/teen stardom is a literal battlefield, and it really goes to show how strong Drew is to keep on keeping on, and as well as she has. To continue learning and evolving all the time. Very candid that she is still healing, and many things she has not wanted to face yet. Which is very understandable with all things considered. She was a social butterfly, waltzing thru and touching many lives in a pretty chaotic and unpredictable type of way. Definitely been difficult to organize everything, and to figure out how to squeeze everything in. All these lost boys and girls deserve a voice though. Much can be learned from this kind of real/raw human struggle. No one's lives are as glamorous or perfect as they may seem. This is a lesson we all desperately need to learn, especially in the "insta" times we live in now.

Undervalued and underrated, sexually exploited and always missing the “big” part as you touched on with David Lynch. I love the associated stories of other sad stars. The illusion that is Hollywood is certainly done. Have to watch it again to appreciate the true depths you go into.

Thank you for taking the time to watch! I am so glad they are finding the right people now, I have gotten a lot of negative comments in the past about the "irrelevant" side quest stuff, but I knew it just wasn't meant for them and carried on. I see the comment sections shifting over the past few months and it has made all of the blood, sweat and tears I've put into these videos so very worth it. Yes, I have felt pain and been emotionally moved throughout the creation of all the vids, I really feel for these people, and the implications of how many other youth are affected. How many in general, in society are preyed upon. Used and abused. It's all very heavy material to sort through and be able to put into a mostly neutral documentary. I obviously can't budge on how I feel about harm being brought to others, especially children, but otherwise, I try to see and understand everything from that person's point of view, and take in all the conditions around them, see why they did what they did or did not do, then I present it as is. No sensationalism, no shock value, no flair or extras. Just the real, raw shit Thank you Joyce, I appreciate your support and positive feedback! ✨💙

The biography and deep dives dearest Tezz the Tatum O’Neill one was eye opening also maybe we will get one directly from you on her specifically one day. From what I’ve seen via on the Oprah Winfrey show & Network Tatum and her father were just making up and reclaiming their relationship. After such brokenness, so sad and disturbing what alot of these young underage girls AB’s boys have endured along with being around. Even the photos are eerie, and so heartbreakingly saddening how many did not make it out all of the constant drug abuse and usages.💔 Soleil Moon-Frye’s documentary on Hulu showcased a lot of that too, even brought me to tears, lastly Roman Polanski is certainly a sickening creep…😑😐😑

@@michaeld.williamsiii9026 Thank you! I am still gettin' the haters come through about the "irrelevance" and it being "off topic", but I'm here for the True Blues. "If you build it, they will come..." You don't need dead football players, at a place built for dead baseball players... LOL The overall topic is Dark Hollywood! Just broken into segments based on specific people. They also all link together, so it's kind of like one giant documentary with parallel plotlines all running together and simultaneously... Those who enjoy the content, get and appreciate that, and that's all that matters. Everything was happening at once all the time, and you can't really get that picture by focusing so blindly on one person, and ignoring everything going on around them. Those who influenced them. The people they partied with and what happened to them. Life is not one dimensional as Hollywood has made it seem through the television! Gotta think Drew was looking up to Tatum and her sobriety for a time, only to watch her fall once again, and be going through a divorce around the same time. Like, when you really think about the reality of trying to find good mother and father figures in an industry of broken and dysfunctional families. It's really so sad, and I think some people can relate. Money or fame or not, the trauma and addictions all end up the same. I have lists on lists of people with troubled pasts, or who passed on young, or just had some crazy Hollywood fuckery. Finding a way to fit them all in and give them all a voice is difficult, but I am finding a way! Yes, Kid 90 was good, Showbiz Kids was also good, there's a handful of them actually. I want to set up something with a book/movie/documentary list for viewers, so they can dive deeper themselves on media I am aware of that relates. All in due time bruv! ✨💙

This is excellent!!! You put a lot of research into this. Every tangent you chose makes sense. I would correct one thing that you commented about regarding Alyssa Milano and her MeToo involvement. She was a participant and tried to hijack credit for a movement started by and led by a Black Woman. She was called out in real time on Twitter for it at the time as well. The problem is that she continued to use the extra attention she was getting by leeching onto it for her own personal benefit. Since you offered parallels and opined that she may have been competitive with Drew to keep her career going, I’d posit she tried to leech from those discussions about accountability as a means to better position herself (and secure new opportunities) in Hollywood by being a self-appointed ‘leader’. Because she continues to be out of pocket. While a lot of those early 90’s projects she did were clearly exploitative, it would be so much more sincere for her to focus what she did to cope and move on more than be opportunistic. Anyway, as we see in the following years Drew did have her movie star era, married a man who came from family money that she had children with (securing their future) and hosting that talk show has become one of the best things for her career. She has a unique perspective and so much life and industry experience now to share that adds so much gravitas to her show. She’s the real deal and you get that sense so often from her guests. Can’t wait for the next part. You really did a fantastic job of recapping how treacherous the industry is, why so many have befallen and those cringe soft porn projects putting underaged girls in such danger. Have you done anything about even younger child stars and their exploitation?
@tezzmosis
@tezzmosis Жыл бұрын
I am so very thankful for those that get it. That can follow and see how and why all the side tangents tie in to the bigger picture. Yes there is a lot more about Milano and the #metoo movement to delve into, the dispute between her and Rose McGowan. The fact that she's married to one of the leading PR firms that literally specializes in shaping the image of celebrities and covering things up... so more like as if she was a mole within the movement rather than a pioneer. Then yes, her and many other celebrities did sort of take advantage of the movement for their own gain. I did want to go into it more in this vid, but the more I looked into it, the more I realized it was going to have to wait and be it's own thing. Was already plenty to cover surrounding Drew. There were a lot of pros and cons to the movement.. a lot of trivial shit being brought to the light by people just wanting their 15 mins of fame. Like the Louis C.K. thing, where he asked two grown women permission to touch himself in front of them. They were a little shocked and froze, but he was not stopping anyone from leaving, did not cause any harm and nobody was forced to do anything.. The girls were literally standing there laughing, and that was the point, he was into the humiliation aspect... and yes don't get me wrong, it's still sexual harassment to an extent, and no degree of that is okay, but it really took away from the power of the movement, and the more traumatic occurrences. It almost makes those that had it worse more embarrassed and ashamed to share their story, when it's been diluted to some comedy show backroom shenanigans between adults. How do you follow that with talking about how you were abused as a child by powerful industry figures? It lost it's umph right then and there, and I have wondered if these incidents were spotlighted as a distraction... Nearly all young stars have been exploited in some way shape and or form, and we take away their voice when we pull the focus to things happening between adults, that can happen at any industry work party. It will probably be it's own video, and yes I definitely want to do one about child/teen stardom in general. I have not yet, but I am sitting on a lot of information that doesn't necessarily find it's way into a DH video. There's a lot to go into and a lot of youths have been chewed up and spit out along the way. Old Hollywood was literally built on the backs of exploited teens and children... Yes, it is nice that with Drew that there is such a good and happy ending coming. Although she is still exploring and unpacking her trauma, but that also brings more of the authenticity to her show, and what she's doing now. Thank you again for the great comment and positive feedback! =]

I'm honestly always confused when I hear ppl say "oh look she made it through, she's a normal person now" when it's clear there's something deeply wrong with her, between her sudden mood swings, the weird ocd like thing she does with her fingers touching her hair in a complex pattern (I have never seen anyone do that), her obsession with "collecting guys" that totally screams childhood s*xual abuse to me like I remember she asked that davlto creepy dude if he had found the list she had written at his house with all the names of the guys she had slept with + in her book the incident where she gets caught sleeping with a guy in that psychiatric hell and that lady asks her if the guy is just another number on her list, she also did a movie in alaska where all the crew were alaskans and some complained that she would be very upset and have tantrums because no one in the crew wanted to sleep with her, her obsession with this very topic on her show is very telling also like litterally every episode is about that... anyway I really loved this documentary, I hope we will be able to watch part 3 soon. It definitely gets all the more complex as she comes into adulthood, been back and forth on this next part for ages because it is such a delicate topic/situation that can be applied to young women across the board, therefore it's a big responsibility. I have a good handle on the childhood trauma in general, and the treachery child stars go thru in order to gain and sustain fame/fortune. However I still cannot say I have a good handle on the entire scope of the situation overall just yet, from a woman's perspective. Been doing further research, consulting with others who would have a better understanding of the affect of everything as they came into adulthood. I have also been taking some psyche courses to better understand everything from a more educated and informed position. When I started Still Not Crazy and DH it was more like a hobby, but the deeper I dove into everything I acquired a far better understanding of trauma in general, and how it affects us all in adulthood. Gave me a better understanding of my own childhood, and the toxic/damaged adults I had to navigate on my own way to adulthood. The end results of trauma are mostly the same for the entire human race, and if we can use these amplified and magnified human case studies to have more compassion and understanding of those that have suffered the most in this world, we can improve how we approach and treat them. It is very common for CSA victims to have some kind of dysfunction in this area later on, whether it being a compulsion or some other disconnect between actual love and just sharing bodies. There are many other potential conditions that can arise from childhood trauma that she likely struggles with, but again I really want to make sure to have a full handle on it before presenting. Very fine line between enlightening and frightening. Thank you for your excellent feedback and sharing your thoughts. It really must be an open forum.

@@tezzmosis im happy you don't believe in cancel culture, I mean that. If your able to to ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist, that's great, you can live a stress free life. As long as you don't do or say the wrong thing. Then you'll see first hand how real it is. People get canceled everyday . Drew Barrymore is lucky she grew up in the time she did and got it out her system because she would be canceled ..look at tim Allen, they didn't let jim voice buzz lightyear in the lightyear movie just because his conservative beliefs and only now are talking about bringing him back because they lost alot of money..that a example of hollywood cancelation..i, myself, was kicked out and banned from my nephews school for telling a teacher to stop telling my nephew itsnok if he wants to be a girl and that he is evil because he white and needs to apologize to every black person they see to be a good person. My nephew is 8..he doesn't go to that school anymore.. my point is cancel culture is very real..my comment was a joke poking fun at it.ive seen people getting canceled for the stupidest stuff so I point out whenever I see a situation that I seen someone else get canceled for.

@@dustincongello5802 - Drew did get cancelled it just wasn't known like that back then. She ruined her career and got canceled by the industry. She couldn't even get an audition because casting directors would laugh at the mention of her name. It is just much more amplified today because of the internet with all the platforms that are available coupled with a sense of disconnection that has lead to many people not having empathy and humanity for others.

Being canceled is somthing that can only happen with the internet mixed with the whole woke sensitive cry baby movement thats been going on the past few years..drew was just looked down upon in the industry not for the drugs of alcohol but because she was so hard to work with because of the drugs and alcohol.being canceled is the woke community trash talks and protests you being fired from your job and edit videos to twist the factual things you say to make it look like you said somthing you didn't say..like how they cut all of trumps videos before he says he denounces racism then accuse him of being a racist..thats canceling..reason to be canceled...thats a whole other rant,but I will say its very easy to be put on the list to be canceled..

@@dustincongello5802 The only reason Drew was able to maintain her career going into adulthood was because she launched her own production company and had researched and planned for around 2 years, how she would re-route the course of her life. She wanted to be an actress, not a sex symbol. People are never as cancelled as Hollywood would lead everyone to believe. How hard is one willing to fight for themselves, is the difference of whether or not they stay down.

You put this together very well, part 1 and part 2. My only critique is there were numerous points where you spent way too much time on other people… before proceeding back to Drew. I understand these people were key to Drew’s life and career, but again… they got more coverage in this documentary than was necessary. Other than that, great work.

I'd say she is in deep mourning, he was what seemed to be the closest to a true father figure she had, that didn't later objectify her. I'm sure she will do some kind of tribute or something on her show, or will do some kind of post when she's ready.

This was such an informative, important video to watch. Drew is such a talented woman and I appreciate the way that you advocate for her. I thought that I always loved Poison Ivy from the pictures I’d seen, (anything grunge for me is 🥰🥰🥰) but admittedly, I never watched it or knew what it was about. Very sad. They really pushed the Lolita card with her. I appreciate you also touching on David Crosby and also Hiel from RHCP 💓 two other very talented people. Also Arsenio Hall is gross and cringe 💀 Keep up the amazing work!

Thank you Angel ✨💙 Yes, I have come to feel like I know her as a close friend over this almost year it's taken since I first began researching. I would absolutely ride into battle for her. Yeah, there is a lot of stuff from the past that didn't seem bad, or we just never picked up on it at the time...this is what I'm here for =D. They really did, it was hers and many other young stars "programming" so to speak. YA! David Crosby passing was really sad to hear, he was getting up there though. It had happened right in the middle of doing the final edits, so I HAD to squeeze a little something in there for him. & yes, ofc with Slovak, RHCP is one of the earliest DH episodes. Will definitely David his proper moment in the next part. I assume she is in deep mourning over this, and am awaiting to see what she does/says about it. There will probably be a segment on her show, and since they're pre-recorded days ahead it just hasn't aired yet... Idk, can't imagine her not acknowledging it at all. Yeah Arsenio interviewing her as a teen and being like this concerned parent figure, then fast forward to she's nude and he's drooling over it. This was her reality, any man she thought cared for her like a father, eventually just wanted her body. How she really felt connected to the "Guncrazy" character, and the intro is her saying "since I was 9 years old men have only wanted one thing of me", and the story is the mother's boyfriend is abusing her and she gets her revenge on him and society... when you put all the pieces together, it really makes you wonder. Thank you again! ✨💙💙💙✨

"Dark" Hollywood, it's about the person, and all the darkness that surrounded them. It's all part of a bigger story, and all ties together. The casualties on the battlefield of child/teen stardom I mention in this video, were colleagues and friends of Drew's , and their downward spiral and deaths would have an affect on her and her remaining peers. Shows how dire the terrain she faced really was, and gives more weight to the fact she has been able to come out the other side in one piece.

@@christymcelhaney3111 Yes, you kind of have to know the lore of Mulholland Drive to follow better I suppose (this is a movie junkie segment) If you don't know it but are into Dark Hollywood stuff, it's basically a representation of all of the darkness within Hollywood, and therefore a must watch. Been a favorite of mine for yeeaaarrrs, and never realized how relevant it would become later. As I was researching Drew and came to Doppelganger, it seemed very relevant, being that it truly felt to me like a missing piece to the highly debated Mulholland Drive puzzle discussed over the years. The DVD even came out with a list of clues to look for, to be able to better understand and interpret the film for yourself because it has so many layers and various storylines happening simultaneously. That's basically what's happening in this series. It relates to the over all story being told across episodes, enveloping the main subject. Lynch/Keanu Reeves come up a few times throughout as well, with strong links back to Drew, and when you watch more episodes of DH, it all starts coming together more. ✌😉
