One of my friends calls this job's story Persona: FF14 Edition. The Dark Knight has explored parts of the Warrior of Light's psyche in ways that we don't normally think about. It is only coming to terms with our darker aspects that we are made whole. The whole Frey vs you situation was very similar to a Shadow boss fight from Persona. Heck, even Frey's words are pretty much a direct match to a Shadow's. Myste explores another part of our psyche, whereas Frey was about our anger, our resentment towards being treated as a convenient tool, Myste was about our regrets and our inability to save everyone. I really need to replay some of these stories, because a number of them are really good. This one was definitely one of the highlights, and was surprisingly good especially since Dark Knight was the second class that I levelled after Paladin.

I can fully understand that comparison. The entire dark knight quest was really one very long and bloody therapy session that ended with the WoL getting all of her demons under control and getting a better grasp of her mental state. It was a very different bit of storytelling which is why I think so many people enjoyed it.

One of my fav details is Frey/Esteem will have pronouns that match the gender of your avatar, despite the /real/ Frey being a man, being another hint that something is off from the get-go.

They've done that at a few points in a couple stories that let me know certain characters were actually you. It's a cool detail that is easily overlooked.

I was always a bit perplexedby that scene in moraby docks. Some people seemed to notice and talk to Fray, considering Fray's body actually falls to the ground when our shadow pops out. I think it's a mix of the two, he voices our thoughts. Maybe even in our voice

the truth is no one could see Fray except for us during everything that transpires, the last HW quest was when our darkness decided it was done being nice and it channeled itself into Fray's corpse dragging it to our location an then assaulting Drillmonte's camp because they were going to drag us to the church to be examined which our darkness thought was a direct threat to our person so it lashed out with rage but the truth of it was that the camp was just worried about our health an well being and wanted us to pray to the fury for peace and guidance not to pass judgement on us. as for all other instances of Fray speaking it wasnt from our lips but it was the crystal we were carrying around with us that projected out our thoughts for the others to hear. hence why the npcs are shocked and try to tell us we didnt need to go that far or that they fear for us cause of how suddenly we changed. but as the player we are confused by this because its not directly stated but we see an physical apparition "fray" standing near us lol and ofc assume he's the one talking but in reality it was the crystal XD

It's perfect for when I need to check on some lore from the ENG version of the game I may have missed/forgotten (I like to compare the translation differences to get a better feel for the lore and Fray) without having to hunt through the Never Ending Journey or NG+. DRK's been my main since Heavensward, and I just continue to love it.

@@ChroniclerofLore a bit, yeah. Mostly it’s in Fray himself. In JPN his attitude is far more romantic-minded, and he’s a lot more possessive/protective. The whole 50 quest line is missing that “WoL is going insane” bit too. It’s really fascinating how much localisation changed him just for ENG players (similar to how they changed Haurchefant)

That happens a lot with all types of media when it comes to the west. I recently saw someone do a breakdown of all of the changes that happened with the dialogue of the Netflix show Squid Game and the dialogue changes shifted the entire personality of some characters.

@@ChroniclerofLore oh, for sure. Though, IMO, this was more in the unnecessary category, especially as the German and French transitions follow the original Japanese. I get them toning down the intensity of Fray/Haurchefant, but I don’t really agree with the almost overhaul of Fray, and the whole 50 DRK story. To me it loses a fair amount of its emotional impact. Though it might be better/more fair to say that it’s more that it changes it’s emotional impact for something I don’t think fits as well as the original (because at no point does the DRK storyline lose emotional impact, lol)

I hadn't caught the Haurche/Yaeslle thing for Myste, thats neat. Those two would most certainly be Remorse incarnate. Dark Knight went hard, i dont really like playing the class, but boy is the job quest chain worth the leveling.

The sword is the Edge of the Fiend which is the level 60 sword crafted using the material from Sephirot from the Containment Bay S1T7 extreme trial. And as far as Fantasias go, I think I used 2 since this video was recorded on a few different characters lol. Now if you were asking on my Bozja video then every change was a Fantasia which proves that I do indeed have a problem lol.

Not sure if it's mentioned but the line Fray uses regarding the Temple Knights during your quest to save the girl is from Unforgiven, Clint Eastwood's character shouts it.

It's very possible that's where they got the idea from. Between the names of some quests and some in game dialogue the writers have referenced all types of other media. They even mentioned an old Nickelodeon show called Legends of the Hidden Temple in a shadowbringers quest.

Dark Knight isn’t my path, the fact tanking also requires leading a party through a dungeon as a fresh 🌱 Sprout. It’s often my first time so I can’t guide. Otherwise I might have chosen Paladin. Oh well, happy as a Scholar or Summoner or white mage.

Healing is so much harder than tanking imo. Healers have to focus on everything. As a tank in dungeons I just charge ahead and spin around a lot lol.

The explanation comes late in the Shadowbringers MSQ where you find out the WoL's true identity. Add in the fact that your soul is far less sundered than most people and that grants the WoL the ability to use the ancient creation magic. Completely and totally on accident, but I'm pretty sure based off of context clues that's what was happening which is why Myste looked like a combination of 2 people that you lost not all that far apart in the same war.

I think there were other races in the unsundered world because there was mention of Azeyma leaving the convocation to go out and talk to and teach other peoples. I have to do more research but I think the Loloporitts (definitely mispelled) coming in Endwalker will be another unsundered race.

One thing that I wish this game did was give you multiple ways to complete class/job quests. I hate the fact you go around 'helping everyone' no matter what you want your character to be like. It's very forced and disconnecting. I long for the day when an MMO exists that allows your character to be a hero or anti-hero, where NPC's talk to you differently depending on your character choices.

I think Fable did what you asked the best. When you did good deeds you became a better person, up to a point where you became a saint almost and the peoples reactions change towards you (npc), and when you did bad deeds you became a worse person, up to becomming a devil of some sorts with devilish facial features. The idea of making choises ina game and having them TRULY affect the story but also your character is something many wants, and i hope our wish comes true.

Fable was revolutionary when it 1st came out, and while I'd like to have your choices impact the story or even small aspects of the game, putting that in an MMO is practically impossible from a programming standpoint. Well it's possible but not practical.

That’s one thing you have to accept when playing FF14. That you have no choice. You’re just a passenger on the Devs ride/story. You aren’t a driver of the car like you’d be in games like FO4, FONV, Fable ect. Where you can choose your faction and path. Once you accept this truth about FF14 it goes better.

Lol. The story is very good imo, but saying its the best is more based off of preference. There are too many great stories especially when it comes to things like Werlyt or Ivalice. Even some of the obscure stories from the beast tribes are very well done.
