One thing about the ending that doesn't get mentioned much is that, before evolving without the crests for the last time to defeat Apocalymon the children remember the adventure and how their digimon were always there when they were in danger. That strongly implies that the crests were completely unnecessary, as it was their adventure that made them stronger so that their digimon could evolve, so the power of evolution was inside them all along and the crests were just something to make them work for it. That's a very deep message!

A subtle detail most fans miss the 1st time they watch this Season is how whenever a Dark Master gets defeated & their section of Spiral Mountain disappears the Digital World's sky gets darker. When Metalseadramon was defeated & the ocean disappeared the sky went from bright blue to light blue. When Puppetmon was defeated & the forest disappeared the sky went from light blue to grayish blue. When Machinedramon was defeated & the city & desert disappeared the sky went from grayish blue to dark gray. & when Piedmon was defeated & the ruins disappeared the sky went from dark gray to black.

He has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in 02, after they defeat Chimeramon and Ken's Digimon Kaiser, when he's in his funk, there's a flashback and that's when he got infected by the Dark Spore from Milleniumon, wherein he, through his aforementioned inspiration, once he became Kaiser, made Chimeramon! Self-perpetuating paradox!

During my childhood I was infinitely sad I couldn't watch the whole Dark Masters arch. I can blame my shitting satellite TV and my mother's hatred of the series because there were devils. But hey, I got to see the whole thing as an adult, so there's a silver lining. But that's not the point. The point is the Dark Masters were both terrifying and horrifying. Watching the chosen children go up against them was scary because each battle had a price. Pinocchiomon was by far the most terrifying because of his childish attitude which led him to hurt and even "kill" those around him, but also his ability to manipulate. Yamato's decent into destructive and self destructive tendencies was heartbreaking to watch. But in the end it was worth to watch his character grow. Piedmon was a good choice for the most powerful bad guy. With his clown appearance it made you underestimate him, and watching him handle the chosen children so easily was horrifying of itself. Heck, I forgot it was even possible for Angemon to digivolve to the next level because we hadn't seen him do it since the beginning. In the end, Metalseadramon is my favorite for his design. I love the entire Seadramon line especially. I guess to wrap up my long winded comment, when I finally watched the Dark Masters arch as an adult, I loved how the series truly challenged the children and their worldly perception with antagonists who consistently stripped them of their confidence and their friends. Growing up is often painful, and mistakes are made, and it was refreshing to see them fail, quit, and find their way again. I truly think this series was underrated in the late 90's early 2000's.

Hey, it could be worse! When their debut episode, "Enter the Dark Masters", first aired here in the UK, they started the whole series back at the beginning again for no discernable reason! And what's more, they even skipped Piedmon's little role call at the start of the episode, meaning we met them as the kids did! Now, imagine how bad it would have been if they never actually finished airing the whole series and instead moved straight onto 02, both of which I actually saw from their original airings, by the way!

Mugendramon has been and always will be my favorite digimon. The design is perfect with the cold calculation evolution of robotics. His death was kind of meh, but he has popped back in such interesting ways like the 2020 series where Agumon partially evolves into him through rage and sadness.

They took an incredibly dark and intimidating final boss with a really well thought out origin story and made him seem almost as silly as etemon. I love both versions but thats one of the few cases where i wish they toned down the dad jokes and the dubs humor is the one thing keeping me loving both and preventing me ffim being a sub purist

Wargreymon is the best one to defeat Machinedramon and Mtlseadramon since he has the Dramon Killers for his weapons, which is effective against dragon types. Which also makes sense for Magnaangemon to defeat Piedmon, an evil digimon.

21:04 I'd believed that the four holy beast mega digimon were among the strongest digimon of the digital world since they were tasked to protecting it. Since each of the dark masters were arguably just typical mega level digimon which were defeated by the 7 chosen children, it seems contradictory to the plot that the four holy beast digimon could be simply defeated and sealed away by four typical mega digimon. In the 02 adventure series, we were shown just how powerful one of the holy beast digimon (azulongmon) were by show of feat of easily restraining blackwargreymon and enabling the mega evolution of imperialdramon. Based on what were we shown, the dark masters shouldn't have given the 4 holy beast digimon much difficult to defeat..

The dark masters lost to the chosen children digimon because they chose to attack one at a time Generally I think Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon don’t get the credit they deserve for defeating them Wargreymon defeated Metalseadramon and Machinedramon because his gauntlet are effective against dramon type Puppetmon was easily killed by metalgarurumon because puppetmon was already tired from fighting 2 megas, metal etemon and Wargreymon And Piedmon was defeated by Holyangemon heaven gates attack which Wargreymon and metalgarurumon threw him inside the gate and sealed him for eternity

Imagine if in a new digimon anime, the dark masters were among the army of the dark digimon fighting against the light digimon in a civil war against each other, until the energy of the portal to the digital world was destroyed, with no way home, the war was subsequently considered over. The digimon integrated themselves into human society while most of the digimon stayed neutral while the bad ones went into hiding. Among them was Mugendramon/Machinedramon who used to be a cruel and merciless member of the Dark Masters. These days however, he's reformed and now works with the good digimon, to protect humans and digimon and appmon alike, for his actions he is branded a traitor by some of his former subordinates and other dark digimon such as Lucemon and Ladydevimon/Lilithmon of the demon lords, Piemon, and Reviewmon/Charismon and Dressmon/Beautymon of the ultimate 4, while Puppetmon and Metalseadramon only appeared as neutral digimon

I always liked the Dark Masters, as villains but the final foe just came out of nowhere and wasn't really that good of a foe to the heroes, its a pity that the reboot didn't even bother to use them, that show was a right mess and just all over the place and could of benefited from the original villains to handle the pacing issues!!
