Sometimes games come out and are instantly hits. Other times they can be overshadowed by an already established game series. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Elements is a game that came out months after Elder Scrolls Oblivion, and seems to have paid the price of becoming a lesser known title.

The design of the cyclops was very cool, all exposed muscle and that. Gnarly! And the "Are your memories what they think they are" was clever. I'd played some of the Might and Magic games but not heard of this one!

Okay, this review sold me - I now have to track down a copy of this game (and yes, I'm going for the 360 version, because I'm like that) and maaaaaybe make a video of my own about it! I do remember passing over this one back in the day, but not because of Oblivion. Truth be told, I have never been able to get into the Elder Scrolls games, and Lord knows I've tried. Instead, I passed over this one because of the 3DO Might and Magic games from the late '90s/early '00s. I figured it was just more of the same, and the reviews of the time didn't exactly convince me I was wrong. Also, I am fascinated by what appears to be going on with Zana. First, there's the whole 'the less it conceals, the more it protects' thing that we've been discussing on Twitter - or, at least, it appears that way in the video. Second, if she lives in your head, offers commentary on events, and guidance during gameplay, is... Is she a high fantasy version of Cortana?!

Yes! I'd love to see your take on this game! I think a lot of people were getting a little tired of fantasy RPGs at the time, coz there were so many to choose from and not all of them were good 😆 Oh ya, that dress is not protecting anyone from anything 🤣 maybe she's Cortana's great great great (maybe a few more greats?) Grandma..she certainly has the sass!

There are certain games that fall into a category where the creators made them specifically for a niche group of players. Some games are received poorly but, the people they are made for love them. This game may be made for that type of group.

Oh that's interesting 🤔 I thought Might and Magic was more mainstream, considering I'd heard of it 😆 makes sense tho, if I was a more hardcore fan this would have been the perfect RPG within the universe!

Games like this and Warhammer come to mind, even though they are popular they expand on something that might have not been as popular and the real enthusiasts of the said popular thing will probably appreciate it more than the general population. I played Warhammer Shadow of the Horned Rat on PS1 and still love that game to this day never realizing it was based on a table top game.

Ah true, I think I only knew about Warhammer was coz my bro painted the models and played the game...and Might and Magic was my thing coz I played 2 and 3! So am more niche than I realised 😆 plus nowadays those franchises are much bigger, so more people will recognize the names and wanna try the games out

This is the game with the epic kick mechanic isn't it? I've heard it's pretty good. I gotta pick up a 360 at some point, now is definitely the time to collect for it. Until then, I picked up Arx Fatalis a little while ago, gonna give that a try.

bad game. i got as far as the first big town - as per the usual open world game you want to wander off and explore the town, yes? well i strolled into a guard area where i got "you aren't supposed to be here" - fade to black... auto save reload - "you aren't supposed to be here" - fade to....... not being funny but if i am to take on a huge world (presumably) then the last thing i want is XX hours just wiped out by looping bugs. it shall sit and rot on my shelf forever. edit - unless i am confused with Two Worlds - equal parts nonesense.

Oh no! That does sound frustrating 😖 it's a shame they left in boot loops and never fixed them! Don't think I played enough to run into any...but I didn't like how dark the game was! Couldn't see inside most of the time 😆
