Well Idk if it's the same here, but in 64 if you just tap the shield button while charging, the shield doesn't come out either, cause you only press Z during the charge cancelling frames (If you do it properly, that is). It also happens with DK up onto Sm4sh, the difference is the length of the punch's charging animation, which makes a laggier cancelling. Still, we should be able to make that quick cancel with Samus in Sm4sh, however it's a really hard input to get. That's one example of Sm4sh techs not being optimized, mostly because of Cloud and Bayo's release, who caught all the atention to themselves. The lack of attention on the other characters meant a lack of tech optimicing, so Nintendo had to make this techs more obvious and/or notorious, and this video is an answer to this necessity.

Why is the idea of something that's intentionally hard to use/not supposed to connect so abstract to people in a game like Smash? It's like pointing fingers at Ganon's jab because it doesn't combo into itself (ignoring the fact that it's one hit). It's a tool for getting the opponent away quickly, hence why samus' jab 1 has so little endlag.

So, there's actually two things ZeRo didn't point out that the Samus discord has noticed. At 0:40, you see Dark Samus cancel her CS charge immediately into a dash. In Smash 4, this isn't something she could do. If she wanted to stop her CS charge early without shooting it, you would have to shield. At 40 seconds in, you don't see Dark Samus throw up a shield at all. She just stops charging and dashes right after, kinda like how Cloud can stop charging limit and dash right after cancelling the charge. At 6:54, we see Dark Samus firing missiles off-stage. Normally in Smash 4, Samus would lose her aerial momentum when firing missiles in the air, but here at this timeframe, it doesn't look like Dark Samus loses her aerial momentum at all, or maybe only slightly, which is definitely better.

At 0:38 seconds, Dark Samus goes from Charge Shot to dash. I didn't notice any shielding or rolling animation, but perhaps there was something going on. It'll have to be tested. Down throw looks the same as Samus'. You can do a down throw to n-air even in SSB4. It seems Samus and Dark Samus will still be able to do a down throw to f-air or n-air. Rolling isn't different, aside from the visuals. I checked Samus vs. Ridley from the 2018 invitational, and Samus' first roll was 38 frames, with the second roll at 42 frames. In Dark Samus' trailer, she does an air-dodge, then rolls backward to avoid the green beam. She ends up with 42 frames.

It would seem you're correct about the air-dodge, dodge, and roll all sharing the same mechanic, so any of those will affect the other. It would appear Samus and Dark Samus share the same roll in terms of frames.

Dark Samus' charge shot seems to be very different from normal Samus'. Lucina was at 89%, and a partially charged shot was able to link into Dash Attack, which might be a combo-ender now instead of a starter. There's also the no charge into F-tilt that ZeRo completely skipped over cuz he was staring at the bombs. Depending on the level of charge, it looks like Dark Samus might use it more as a starter or setup tool, as opposed to the kill shot that normal Samus has

Maybe It's just me but the angle of Samus' dash attack seems more horizontal while Dark Samus dash attack's angle seems a little bit more vertical. 0:52 I also have the impression that it charging shot is slower than Samus so maybe it could be a better approaching tool. 6:33 These things seems a little bit different from Samus to me.

my idea for regular Samus: i think it would have been a cool mechanic if she could stay in the morph ball like yoshi stays in his egg by holding the block after a roll. she should be able to roll around in the ball for better movement options. it would only have invincibility on the initial first roll into the morphball so she would have to come of the ball then she should be able to use her down B in this state. It may sound crazy but i think would be balanced and creative.

Was it me, or did normal missiles not track? They seem to always travel in a straight line. Also that dash-attack. Seems to me it could work as a "get-off-me-let-me-charge-mah-lazer" move, or a mind game move if you already have a charged neutral b. Sure, it doesn't allow for combos, except for projectiles. We'll have to see how strong the Charge Beam and Super Missiles are. Might be a kill option too, we'll see. But that bounce after the Screw Attack was just weird. Wonder if it'll do something, like faster bombs on that state, or another inmediate up-b. If not, better snap the ledge, cause that move seems to have quite some landing lag.

I just think it's funny how, now that they have a name, people are more accepting of clones/echos. When Dark Pit was announced, people hated that it was pretty much the same as Pit. Dark Samus, while she(it?) may have more differences, still is a Samus clone and probably took similar effort to make. People aren't complaining that characters are "wasting character slots" anymore when it comes to echos.
