To be clear this is the end of the main story line. The show continued for a few months with an alt story line which has nothing to do with the OG characters.

And IMO, this should be where it ended.

I thought the same thing in 71 when Barnabas returned through the staircase. But since Angelique lifted his curse in 1840 there would be no body to return to in 1971.

This is awesome to see a young person into Dark Shadows. I watched this series when it first came on TV. 😃 you go girl

I never liked that Angelique died in 1841 when Barnabas travelled thru time via that silly staircase. So, if Angelique dies in 1841 in a reprocess, then the entire history at Collinwood would change and create chaos.

I love that soap opera when I was a child as I still do today .

How so true that Dark Shadows was so groundbreaking!! It probably influenced writers of vampire fiction such as Ann Rice. Barnabas, thanks to Jonathan Frid's initial awkward acting created the concept of the vampire with a conscience. And from that point future vampires were based on that concept. Let me suggest a vampire show you must review or recap and it is the cult crime drama Forever Knight.

I think Willie and Maggie would have been a great couple.

I didn't like Angelic dying either. Then again, I didn't like Josette dying back in 1975. Barnabas with his wife Angelic would've at least been a consolation prize if Trask had not shot her.

Dan Curtis would be shocked in 1966 if somebody told him a young girl in 2021 would be immersed in Dark Shadows. I heard once that Dan told the actors dont worry if they screwed up their lines because it would only be aired once and people will forget. Nope.

So true. Dark Shadows has a lot of really great flubs. It's so impressive that these actors had to come in 5 days a week and know their lines for a show that was filmed live. It was like learning a new 30min play every day. Mind blowing.
@kevinpyne58083 жыл бұрын
@@legaultrants Agreed. Most challenging. They really had no time to even rehearse their lines. I was amazed the most with John Karlin. Very versatile and underrated actor, hardly ever flubbed his lines.

So true! I was 11 years old when DS started in 1966, and I love seeing it again via YT, Thank you, my dear! You are a delight!

I never bought into the Sam Hall TV Guide article. I don't believe ANY of the storylines he mentioned were planned out if the show had continued. He still has Quentin being heartbroken over Daphne's death. Hello? The ghosts of Daphne and Gerard never came to Collinwood in 1970 after Barnabas and Julia changed history in 1840. And furthermore, why would Quentin want to hook up with Count Petofi again? MAKES NO SENSE. Barnabas was cured of his vampire curse by Angelique in 1840, so when he returned to 1970 via the stairway through time, he was not a vampire in the present time. Furthermore, Angelique was no longer a witch in 1840, thanks to Gerard/Zachary removing her powers, so she wouldn't be a threat in 1970-71. I think Sam Hall wrote the TV Guide article for one reason: MONEY. He was unemployed at the time. His wife Grayson was unemployed, too. He and Gordon Russell would be hired by Agnes Nixon to become the new headwriters on One Life to Live in a year or so.

Dark shadows is such a wild ride. I just finished the parallel time story and am at the 1995 story. Even though the show ends here, I do like how Lara Parker continued the world in her novels and Sam Hall's character endings are both depressing (Chris and Sabrina deserved better and Collinsport rivals Sunnydale in terms of being a hellmouth where awful things happen) and nice in the case of other characters. And ugh!, poor Victoria Winters though

Lara Parker's book are great. Big Finish also has a lot of audio dramas too.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, I don't like the Tim Burton remake at all
@legaultrants2 жыл бұрын
Oh I despise the Burton 're-imagining'. That movie is literally my most disliked film ever made. And I watch trashy movies like Shark Exorcist, Llamageddon, and Street Trash on the regular so that's saying something.
@Nexusofgeek2 жыл бұрын
@@legaultrants it is such a shame because I remembered being excited before it came out. I remember reading how both JDepp and Burton were such big DS fans and then being disappointed after watching trailers before the movie was out. Then, I finally broke down and watched it and I was right, the movie, despite being visually arresting, was pure trash from a narrative perspective. What a shame, if it ever gets remade I hope someone does it right.

You made this video 6 years ago. Are you still sad about Angelic?

I still wake up in a cold sweat lamenting the ending, cursing all that is for not allowing her to hear those final words from Barnabas. Woe. WOE!

It has been so many years since I watched "Dark Shadows" during its' original broadcast run on TV from 1966--1971 (1972?), but didn't Prof.Timothy Stokes' ancestor Ben Stokes kill Angelique? Did Angelique die a second time during the TV series at the hands of Reverend Trask?

This woman narrator of this video review of "Dark Shadows" says "830 episodes". But didn't "Dark Shadows" run on TV for at least 1000 episodes?
@legaultrants3 жыл бұрын
"830 episodes from Angelique's first appearance until her death..." The show ran for 1,225 episodes total which I mention @6:52 ish. Thanks for listening.

If I recall...and am not missing anything...I believe there were 1125 episodes aired from June 1966 to April 1971.
