This is one of those older vids that I go back to watch every other year or so. The commentary is super down to earth - a real breath of fresh air compared to seeing a huge Twitch comment section. It’s one of the few speed runs I enjoy, and there’s nothing else quite like it. I hope it’ll always be here, for the sake of my nostalgia, if nothing else.

+John Rolfe Next fastest is the bonfire ascetic right after the Congregation fight. That's what we used to collect before the DLC came out. The newest route collects two ascetics in the first DLC and skips the ascetic in the Bastille.

I would be interested in a magic run too, but most people uploading speedruns are doing them competitively so they choose the best strategy. There was a viable route with hexes though before resonant soul and GRS were nerfed.

SuperLotus Its actually really easy. Just download the zip file from SpeedSouls and then extract it into your Dark Souls 2 Game folder. You should backup your save before you do it if you do.

Really entertaining to watch! Though quite depressing :( I've recently started to play again (now on the 8h mark and only managed to be arrround lvl 80...jeez the ammount of souls you get from rotten is incredible.) Why exactly rotten? Shouldn't every boss give X% more souls with ascetic, or is it just near enough to a bonfire + good easy / souls ratio ? (I'd believe its because of how near it is to the bonfire). Anyway gj keep it going ! :)

About the Velstadt fog gate: What I always do is run straight between the last two guys and roll as they both attack, and most of the time that was enough to get through without a scratch. Would that be more viable than what you use here, is it too unreliable?

This is great. From what I've read, speedrun tutorials are practically non-existent. Some things are somewhat self explanatory just by watching others, but still very helpful. I am curious how speedrunners manage to make it through Black Gulch without being poisoned.

how much slower would fighting Dargonrider and Flexile Sentry instead of Last Giant, The Pursuer, and Ruin Sentinals be? Heide's Tower of Flame is one of the fastest areas of the game with Dragonrider taking like 5 seconds, and Flexile Sentry is pretty quick too, and you end up having to take down one less boss. I guess the problem is that you have to go through the Cathedral of Blue and the first part of the Forest of Fallen Giants, but I think it would be quite close (I might be wrong though)

Starting practicing the run now, still having issues getting through the very first fog gate in the forest of fallen giants. The 4 little undead guys always manage to hit me and break the fog gate animation. Any tips? Also, when I attempted to kill the Guardian Dragon later on, he flew around for about 4 minutes, every time I fought him.

Is it worth getting the chloranthy ring in Cardinal tower? Your stamina will re-gen faster and it's not that far out of the way, you start with the Lockstone with the Explorer class.

Yes, I think you can save sometime, via better stamina, but you would have to sacrifice time due to decreased damage. Its about the same, but cloranthy ring is a little worse in my opinion.

I think Noobest has one on KZbin. I'm assuming once the DLCs came out most all bosses runs include the DLCs. The only other category is old souls % which kills the 4 main bosses, but not optional ones.

I have a question what if U had someone put a summoning sing in the first bonfire of drag castle and then you summon that person and that person equips the king ring. Will the door open? if so you could save a lot of time doing that. Or does that not count for the run?

The idea is to not play in online mode in the first place, due to the fact that an unfortunate invasion could ruin many good runs.

Nashandra is an amusingly easy boss. To be honest most bosses in DS2 are amusingly easy - the only ones who ever gave me trouble were vendrick and giant lord - just easy bosses with big dumb vertical slash attacks and limited toolkits.
