For people still wondering about the estus recovery mechanic: There is a hidden counter in the game that goes up every time you kill something. Different enemies increase the counter different amounts. Usually red eye enemies give higher values than normal enemies. NPCs have the highest value in the game. Players have set estus recovery amounts: Killing invaders (as a host or summon) gives you 2 estus. Killing invaders and phantoms (as an invader) gives you 1 estus, unless you kill a blue spirit, which gives you 2 estus. Hope this helped

There is roughly a 100% chance that an invading phantom wants to PvP, and a much lower chance that the host wants to. Based on that, one can assume that, on average, invaders are more skilled at PvP than hosts. Presumably, From decided to stack the odds in the host's favor to compensate for that. Sadly, the logic behind the decision is of little solace to the poor invaders who end up trapped in a corner being stunlocked by four guys with estocs.

@aaro12687 жыл бұрын
Saya 1 yeah, since then I've watched for it. corvians, knights, and pretty much any non boss I've encountered can give back used estus, but it is a very low chance. You see an orange effect when their souls come to you, and it seems slightly more likely as you have less estus. It definitely seems to only work on humanoid undead enemies. Even the weak enemies near Iudex drop it sometimes.

I know this is rather old for a video, but to comment on the whole "NG+ doesn't scale high" thing....I'm actually really glad for that. Like, I'm all for harder enemies and such when going into NG+'s and such, but when it's just a sheer spike of difficulty it gets pretty ridiculous. It was one of my gripes about Dark Souls 2. In game I had a +10 weapon with which, in regular New Game, I could one hit the tutorial enemies in, and even the beginning enemies with the Forest of Giants. However...upon entering NG+ for the first time it was just sheer spike. It was like walking on open ground then all of a sudden...oops, there's no ground anymore. The enemies I was one shotting were now taking at least 4 hits to kill, and since my weapon can't get any stronger...well, it can only get worse from here. Damage was at least doubled if not tripled whenever I got hit, to the point I was just being one shot...and this was in NG+. Just regular NG+. I could understand if it was like NG+ 5 or NG+7. But NG+? That's a sheer spike that I was not ok with. So I've been putting off going into NG+ on Dark Souls 3 for that very reason. I was afraid of what kinda crazy large spike was waiting for me, and I was putting it off. Hopefully it's still that way and NG+ still isn't too big a leap. Idk, just my ramblings because I'm all for NG+'s to be more difficult, but on a steady curve. Not just hitting the deep end after just an inch of shallows. Especially in a game where your weapon can only get so strong and stats have a cap to the effectiveness they make on weapons. Not to mention while the enemies defenses, health, and damage goes up (sometimes tripling) you remain the same/hit a cap and can't do much else. So I definitely appreciate that Dark Souls 3 difficulty doesn't go from 0-100 from NG to NG+. That 100 should be gradual imo. *Shrugs*
@Chieana8 жыл бұрын
I wholeheartedly agree with you, NG+ in DS2 is no fun for me either, the difference is simply too big. It's good to know that I won't have that issue with DS3. I would have liked it if they put newer enemies around though, that is something I did like in NG+ DS2; there were several new enemies I hadn't seen before :) (then again, in Scholar, those are in normal NG -sigh-)
@NikushimiZERO8 жыл бұрын
ChieanaStrider Yeah, the spike was really huge in DS2. Same for Bloodborne. I went into NG+ thinking it shouldn't be too hard, right? After all my character is like BL362 or something like that and the weapons I used were all at +10 for the most part, mainly my Blades of Mercy. Early enemies, even without upgraded weapons in NG I could one shot, and then I get to NG+ and my +10 Blades of Mercy were taking 3-4 hits on the very beginning enemies. I was just like "Wut?" It was just ridiculous for the most part. I did like that feature too. The new enemies and placement of them. That was interesting. Kinda wish they did that in DS3 too, but RIP. My main concern now while going through NG+ (after going there finally once I just topped off on a few levels of Vitality so I could wear my new fashion and carry my weapons) is wanting to get through as fast as I can, but then missing the new stuff. Mainly the rings. :\ I really don't feel like exploring everything again. Call me lazy, but my first playthrough I scoured EVERYWHERE, and I mean everywhere. I went into the most obscure places and walked to deadends more than I could count just searching. Might just look up a guide as to where all the new stuff is, but so far the only noticeable difference in difficulty are the bosses and the NPC enemies. I fought Gundyr with my +10 Moonlight Sword and +10 Crow Quills, and with 130 Crit on the quills my repostes were doing only like 600-800 damage or something and normal attacks from my Moonlight was doing about 300-400 :\ So either the defenses are way increased or bosses spike higher than normal enemies. Then the Samurai guy by Firelink was taking about 200-300 damage from my attacks and i'm just like "Whaaaaaat?" Sorry for my rambling. D:
@bretth3428 жыл бұрын
Nikushimi_Zero what they should do is make NG+ scale harshly but allow you to further upgrade your items
@NikushimiZERO8 жыл бұрын
Brett h To be honest, I don't mind damage scaling up on enemies. It's mainly how your weapon stays the same damage while the enemies health and defenses go up. In the end your +10 weapon will be doing like 200 damage to like a 100,000+ health boss while they just one shot you. So the damage I can be okay with enemies doing. It's the lack of damage you're able to do that get me to be honest. So yeah, I agree. Being able to upgrade your weapon more would be nice, or just keeping enemies defenses the same or something. But *shrugs*

One mechanic I just found recently while trying to improve parry skills is that of the spell "Great Magic Shield". If you cast it and fail to parry, as long as you get your shield to cross with your enemy weapon, you won't receive any damage. Without the spell you certainly are going to get hurt even If you don't loose your stance. This is very useful to train your parry timing without dying too many times in a row.

The firekeeper actually has blue eyes. Contrary to what people thought about her not having eyes. If you look into her head with the camera you can see behind her eye covers are her eyes. 06:24 OHHH So _THIS_ is why I was constantly getting summoned into worlds with sooo many phantoms in it that would mess me up in the swamp when I was farming for my farron wolf covenant yesterday! Wow. I knew the players that were wrecking me were leet, but this explains it so much more! Even when there was an additional helper on my side, I still got destroyed lol. I also didn’t know about the mashing buttons to escape the stray demon from yeeting me into another dimension two times in a row lol. I actually tried to escape it by mashing some button or shaking my controller (I forget what exactly I tried because I was so stressed out lol, however my instinct was telling me that escape might be possible and idk where I first learned it in the past as much of my memory of previous souls game has faded over time), but obviously I wasn’t doing the _RIGHT_ trick. Oh well, I’m glad I didn’t know exactly how to pull off this trick, because I was laughing my arse off when it happened - it was soooo funny! I wouldn’t have wanted to miss that death for anything. 😁 Many spoilers can suck the fun out of these games on our first playthrough. ;) P.S. I learned soooo much from these videos of yours on mechanics! I was actually about to look up how to leave messages because I didn’t see a messaging soap stone to buy from the handmaiden. Also, I wanted to try to get the Symbol of Avarice from that first mimic that drops the deep battle axe, but I dumbly thought it would respawn after I killed it the first time. Of. The chest was gone when I went back to it to try to farm for it. Dang. I’m so sad I forgot so much souls knowledge with being so rusty for not having played one of the games in 7 years.... Now I have to wait to try for it when I come across a new mimic, whenever that will be. I wish I had it soooo badly when I was farming for those 10 hours straight from enemies for my swordgrass for the wolf covenant. 😢 All I had was a sword with boosted item discovery that I equipped in my offhand (I don’t know if it worked or not though with my two handing my main weapon in my right hand - my character status screen said that my discovery rate was higher so I _ASSUME_ it helped... It sure did take me a _LONG_ arse time though to get all the swordgrass drops I needed, as I was only able to get two off of PvP fights I won in about 12 summons in total (because I kept being summoned into very skilled player’s worlds who were also using the dried finger or had terrible connections with them transporting all over the place every time my weapon _SHOULD_ have made contact - I swear, one leet guy I got summoned into a good 6 times in a row was also estus cancelling 😡). Thanks sooo much for these tips, man!! I learned _A LOT!!!_

+justin sattelberg In Scholar of the First Sin there is exactly one Ring of Life Protection and one Ring of Soul Protection in each NG-Cycle. they also increased the Repair Cost in SotFS due to people complaining it was too easy to repair them. +Red Mercer I liked that mechanic but to be honest it was a mechanic required because they wanted your super flashy Rings to also break after a while. Dark Souls 1 and 3 rings don't ever degrade, you never need to repair them so they just put a lot of Ring of Sacrifices in and were done with it making them just disappear for good. DkS2 had Rings breaking, Corrossive pits and such that would've made it annoying if every ring you had just broke apart forever. Imagine you go through a whole lot of trouble just to find your loved weapon and when it's Durability is depleted it just breaks and disappears, would you want that? because if degrading Rings disappeared in DkS2, then it would've been just logical to make it so Weapons do too which would've sealed the existance of "broken Ladle Runs" XD

"What does from have against invaders?" Nothing but you are invading someone else's game, it should be stacked against you
@kurdtcoben6 жыл бұрын
No, absolutely not. Ignoring the fact that invading gives you gameplay rewards such as rings, spells and weapons that you might wanna collect, invading has always been a mechanic to balance out the gamebreaking coop mechanic. Think about this: You're the host and you can't "git gud" or can't be bothered so you wanna summon your friend. Okay, first of all you have to be embered to summon, that's +30% HP for you. Then you get a human cooperator in your game, in a level that's finetuned about one player interacting with the enemies. Everything from enemy placement to enemy strength is geared towards that. Of course, your summon increases the HP of the mobs in the game by 10% but that's literally not worth mentioning since you only have to care about 50% the attack patterns, solve all combat puzzles more quickly (saving you on estus and concentration) and do twice the damage. And that's where the invaders come in. Since coop BREAKS the game and the way it was intended to be played, invaders are there to even out the scales. They are there to counteract your giant benefit of having a summon around and refresh the balance of difficulty which you just broke. Of course, invasions also happen when you're solo and embered. But then again, you have 30% extra HP and your invader only has half the Estus, so it's more than fair in that regard (for you at least). So please stop whining about invaders. Invasions are part of the game, the lore, the meta-narrative and the overall experience Dark Souls was trying to create all along. And yes, FromSoftware (or rather Bandai Namco by proxy for the casuals) has a giant problem with invaders. That's why they send in singular invaders against teams of 3-4 cooperators most times. You won't believe how unfairly the odds are stacked against you as an invader in Dark Souls 3. It's disgusting.

I find the Estus recovery happens more often when I'm progressing quickly or killing a high number of enemies or many powerful enemies in a short amount of time. @@yeeterman8622 I was farming the collectible for the covenant with the wolf statue in Farrow’s Keep… I forget the name of collectible and the covenant. You had to get 30 of them in the game to get the final reward I wanted. You are “supposed“ to farm them in PVP, but I was only able to get a couple of them that way in the timeframe that I was farming, because I kept running up against tag teams of people that had way better equipment than I had… So I was getting them overwhelmingly from farming the enemies that have the worm heads with skinny tall bodies (I forget their name of them too… It has been a while since I’ve played the game)... There is a pack of three of them right next to a bonfire, and then one really close by on the other side of the connecting bridge… So I would sit at the bonfire to reset and farm those four enemies over and over for 10 hours straight. And right before I got my 30th collectible, I died two times in a row without getting my soul stain, because of having the worst RNG possible, on top of being tired (the enemies would constantly change of which type they were).

I think the base damage is nerfed to the luck scaling...
@ryanshannahan88936 жыл бұрын
I don’t have stats like everyone else but I definitely noticed a significant increase in the frequency that I would receive a random Estus when I leveled my luck stat throughout the game (up to lvl 30). Also noticed that recent character builds without any increase in the luck stat seem to rarely get them in comparison.

How about a call to arms about the Poise system
@zegreatpumpkinani91618 жыл бұрын
we now this already, poise only triggers when you are in the middle of an attack
@sunnyta19908 жыл бұрын
man, from really needs to fix NG+ and make it a LOT harder they also need to bring back poise
@jeremynielsen8608 жыл бұрын
Also I want reasons for doing NG+ instead of more powerful rings, I'd love to see different enemy placements and a maybe a few extra moves thrown in the mix
@DooyevenTriforce8 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Weir Fun Fact: Poise is programmed into the game already. It's just disabled. Why? No one yet knows. And thanks to R1 mashers using rapiers and straight swords, it's kind of scared me away.

+Jeremy Nielsen the only boss that actually got harder for me was the dancer... Even pontiff was easy on new game plus I felt like his damage stayed exactly the same and his health wasn't that much mote

in ds 1 if you want to op your character right away get both the Drake sword and the gravelord sword...
@superphatcakes6 жыл бұрын
I know the video's not that new, but there's actually a second "grab" attack you can escape from more rapidly by mashing buttons, and it's from those slime-like enemies (both versions) that drop down from the ceiling, usually at item ganks. Additionally, if you're mashing the roll button as well, you'll roll out of their grab instead of being stuck in the "getting out of it" animation.

Recken Yes and you will only have 1 HP. Throwing Knife, Thorns. And you are gone and second chance won't do anything at that point. It's good, decent but not overpowered. If it gave you a second chance with more HP than 1 it would be overpowered.
@PinkB00mer8 жыл бұрын
Recken Well there was no specification there. And in PvE it's the same story. It's still only 1 HP. It will most likely save you in a lot times. But it's not overpowered. It's good no doubt about it. If you are already being overwhelemed and it triggers, you will most likely die anyways. But other times fighting a boss and you get hit by something and it saves you. It might have just won you the fight but again it's only 1 HP. And at that point if you can't heal right away only 1 hit of literally anything will kill you. Or a extremely tiny fall.

I'm pretty sure mashing reduces squeeze and chomp damage when caught.

the enemy behind the tree on the ledge at 11:12 i believe the estus recovery is on the red eyed harder enemies. not just any mob that has red eyes, but the ones that are the same as other mobs in appearance (aside from the eyes) but they have higher health as well.

+Tea Requiem That also means that you can not get rewarded a flask when you chose to play offline, right? And I don't mean Steam in offline-mode, but the offline function ingame. Cheers
@Mstea01498 жыл бұрын
wutz kopp There's apparently a way to get a flask freely offline as well, something about NPCs or certain enemies rewarding up to 2 after being defeated. I can't necessarily say I've noticed this happen but it would explain a lot of "what the fuck, didn't I use that flask?" moments I had.

My tip: There is a scare/panic factor that is used in DS games. Why does every time I fight a tough enemy, my heart beats out of my chest? It's the volume! As enemies attack you, the volume is set so high, your ears are assaulted with really loud noise, triggering panic. As well, your character is always heavily respiring. This suggests that you are breathing heavy, and combined with the audio cues, you are immersed in the fighting and the overly loud audio, the fact that you respire heavy, and the soothing prefight music contrasts with the current loud audio, so what happens?.... Your heart races! So, to make gameplay easier, turn down the battle volume a little, and then you don't panic during a fight.
