I love how much your combat style started out matching the slow starting cadence of the Phase 1, and then got more quick, brutal, and sweeping as the battle shifted into the later Phases.

to a non souls fan this might look unimpressive due to the lack of rolling and passive combat, but to anyone who's played the game this is a perfect fight, better than hitless, not just no hit, but not even close to getting hit. Everything is so deliberate and you clearly know Gael's moveset like the back of your hand. This is the highest level of expertise you will ever see in dark souls.

That was a great fight. Probably don't need to know the fight, as well as Ongbak, to defeat Gael. But. It WILL take some skill at this fight. Ongbak doesn't overreact. That's the tendency when you take on Gael. If you trade strikes, with him for a few moments, you dead.

The worst thing about both Midir and Gael, is that they are at the very end of a relatively long game with no way to fight them on-demand. Sekiro's boss mode really is the ultimate QoL feature of the SoulsBorne series. It should be illegal to not include it in every game. Otherwise really amazing battle, sad that nothing in ER felt this good.

Artorias fight was amazing, ivory king fight was awesome, abyss watchers, twin princes, nameless king and soul of cinders. All amazing fights, but Gael is just legendary. The music is perfect, he is so damn agile and his whole moveset is so fucking cool, and the envoirnment makes it so much better. It's two undead fighting at the end of the world in a literal desert of ash where you can see the crumbling remnants of lothric and possibly anor londo or drangleic, and all they're fighting for is to fulfill a ladies wish to paint a better world with the dark soul itself.

How he hollowed is what I'm most curious about. From my understanding, "hollowing" happens when an undead loses its sanity and humanity upon constantly dying or coming to their wits end. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that. At that timestamp you gave, Gael didn't die, not yet at least... so did he go hollow/mad upon realizing that he was the dark soul the entire time and that he consumed countless beings in vain; or did he, in a way, through sheer willpower defy going hollow for what seems like an eternity and essentially let himself be at rest upon realizing he at long last completed his purpose?

​@@asimplecliche6642 it's the latter, Gael defied hollowing hundreds of thousands of years since the first age up till the very end of the world, when he sees his blood he basically accepts his death and goes hollow because his task is completed, he knew he wouldn't come back, that's why he led you all along, to finish him off and give the blood to his lady, gael sacrificed everything to make a better world despite having suffered for longer than any other character in the franchise.

I feel like FromSoftware hit the perfect balance of a boss fight feeling like a grandiose spectacle while also feeling fair with Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro. With Elden Ring they went a bit too much in the "spectacle" direction without accounting for the fairness of some of it's remembrance bosses.
