DS3 is the game for me where they struck an almost perfect balance for me between the flashiness of the gameplay while having it be mechanically sound There are flashy mechanics/moves/skills in the game, but they aren't so flash that it just becomes visual vomit on the screen The main problem I have with DS3's PvP is the fact that you can't invade in certain areas after a player defeats the area's boss (at least I believe that's the case, but I could be mistaken); This problem is compounded even more in an open-world game like Elden Ring where there are field bosses, but I still wish they would stop restricting invasions if a boss is defeated Also, DS3 has the best soundtrack

after looking at ds3 pvp its kinda baffling why elden ring dropped or messed up most of the pvp stuff, they should have at least kept covenants and their invading requirements, literally just more depth and fun to the game

At first there was a lot of speculation about the lack of covenants in ER, but miyazaki put those to rest in a recent interview where he confirmed that it was because they wanted to simplify multiplayer as much as possible. They tought new players would get confused by covenants lmao

@@eldenlean5221 Because honestly it is confusing, the only reason it isn't confusing to us now is because of how much exposure we got to it. Imagine answering questions on mechanics/conditions and rewards for all the covenants being somewhat new and without using the wiki. Add to that how some covenant rewards are virtually dead due to the lack of inactivity, so your options are sit afk for 3/4 of the time or farm an npc drop. I very much miss the rewards and the flavor of the covenants, but not so much the covenant mechanics.

Also maybe this was answered in an interview or something, but I mostly suspect the solo invasions were removed to make sure that co-opers got all the invader "punishment" traffic. Just really unfortunate what that means for invading as a whole, and if true why no dual invaders? Maybe net/lag concerns.

DS3 was the souls game with the most amount of gank invasions, the only reason ppl are getting solo invasions now in 2024 is because the game is low on activity. It was even worse than ER's gank invasions. If you want to invade with cool covenants, good pvp and activity. Try DS2

I just wish this game weren't full of exploits around different animation cancels and things obviously not intended (aka estus cancelling, animation cancelling with ringed knight sword and black knight shield, unbalanced things like the murky hand scythe, etc.) at almost every higher level of play. I genuinely do miss solo host invasions and having so many mechanics and covenants allowing invaders to pick and choose what and where they wanted activity; I know a lot of people seem to enjoy the "challenge" of always getting 3v1 ganks in every single invasion in Elden Ring, but I can't relate. Hopefully their next title doesn't fall in line with the gradual design philosophy of fromsoft's games catering to casuals who despise pvp to the point where they'd rather uninstall than deal with the Bad Red Man.

Elden Ring has way more unbalanced/glitched stuff. And even just normal ganks are way harder to beat. In DS3 you can at least fight them head on, you're not constantly running away to wait for an opening.

One thing i really love about ds3 that ER is plagued with is that ds3 doesn't drop your inputs. You have to meet very specific conditions for ds3 to do that while ER does it randomly in the middle of the action when inputs are applied too fast. Like FromSoft seriously, fix this issue, your game PvE wise is centered around some pretty fast bosses and it shines its rear in the DLC. This has very rarely been an issue in the previous titles.

DaS3 PvP is definitely a different flavor. But I will say I miss covenants from Dark Souls... they were fun flavor sometimes fun rewards and pulled people into the mix who may not otherwise participate.

Wholeheartedly agree on invasions in elden ring. Fromsoft has started becoming more money greedy as all developers do. They are looking for mass appeal at the expense of their niche innovasions. This is happening in all their games (AC6) where the pvp is neglected into an obsolete state. They arent interested in replayability anymore. Fromsoft is a single player game developer now

there is sadly, ELDEN RING 1V1s are mostly colosseum duels and it was mostly sweats. and low percentage of people using taunter's tongue solo to open themselves to invasion. and most of the TT users are just people who got bored of Colosseum Sweats who just wants longer fight with heals on. but sadly the advantage these hosts has is just too much for an invader to tackle. fortunately SEAMLESS CO-OP Has made Invasion feels right all players has same amount of flasks and can fight longer.

Dark Souls 3 is the Peak of From Softwares Invasion Gameplay. All though not perfect by any means, there are a great many flaws that could have been addressed, but none the less its still the best. Elden Ring just wasn't made with Invasions in mind, its very clear it was a tacked on feature just to have it, the level design is not meant for it, the player cap is one sided, the weapon balancing is...non existent due to excessive variations making it nigh impossible to accomplish, and overall it sucks. DS3 however, is so much better, with a limited roster of weaponry without ashes of war customization balance is good, though there are some weapons better than others, you can competently fight with almost any weapon if you're good enough, hell I use the Whip, a very weak weapon and I win 8/10 times. It all comes down to skill, learning how to read an opponent, bait a parry, time a combo, out think and out manoeuvre your enemy. The best Invasions for me are around level 60, why not 125 which is considered the meta? because at 125 you can die to 1-2 hits against certain weapons, and all it takes it getting nicked once and you can just die at 1000+ hp, at level 60 that cannot happen unless your opponent is using friend invite to bypass level restrictions (an example of not perfect design). It's also the level you have just enough stats to have a fully formed build, a 40 dex, or 40 strength soft cap build is very comfortable at this level, and it really feels balanced for it. Plus this is peak level for playing the Aldritch Faithful, as this is the level most players are passing through the area so you'll invade most at this point, plus its one of the best PvP areas in the game.

It's funny how at the time we all complained about dark souls 3 invasions for being too hard, but in hindsight, the covenants, less damage, higher player cap, etc. Actually meant that, although they were hard for the invader (as they're supposed to be, within limits), they were probs some of the best (haven't played dark souls 2 so maybe it's better).

You don’t really mention it but the TTK in Elden Ring is the biggest issue with the PvP for me. Even in a 1 on 1 setting it is way too easy to do 85% of your opponents HP in an instant, which compounds the multiplayer issues already present due to the player count. Watching the clips in the video the main thing that stands out is how little damage everyone is doing and how that extends the life of the fight by giving people chances to counterplay. Parrying is a reasonable option because whiffing doesn’t mean you’re eating 1200 damage. Getting blendered isn’t an immediate death sentence. You don’t invade a solo host and go home in three seconds because they got knowledge checked about a weapon art true combo. It sucks man. I think the community right now is sort of collectively grieving what could have been, given how much time was spent anticipating ER and what a letdown the experience has been overall.

Yeah in elden ring pvp above level 80 (probably at lower levels also...) you deal way too much damage in pvp and there are so many ashes of war that deal 80% of a players hp if not one shotting them.

Your explanation about farron watchdogs covenant around 5:00 is false. You don't have to have invaded anyone to be invaded by the watchdogs in the swamp areas. Your take is closer to what blades of the darkmoon did back in DS1, although I don't quite remember how that worked. Good video otherwise 👍

For blades of the the darkmoon in DS1 you specifically had to be indicted by someone with an item you buy from the velka guy to accumulate sin, and then you would lose the sin when you get killed by a darkmoon.

Murky abusers ruin this game for me :( I love the pvp and tried playing it today but the amount of people/ganks using murky was overwhelming. I was on ps5. Most of my hours in pvp are on pc and i never had this issue. Maybe I got lucky. I would rather fight a gank using moonveil and spamming everything they got than a dedicated murky gank any day.

PS5 PvPers are known to be scum. on PC is either just veteran PvPers only play on their leisure time just playing normally and few small minority of scum. but the gank on PC is rare nowadays.

nuh uh ds3 was the first with passwords and weapon levels, I almost only met high level gankers. elden ring RL1 is one of the best invasion times right now, high level phantoms can actually be dealt with and the tools you have make it possible to snipe the host.

There is no counter invasion covenant in DS3. You probably invaded, got embered from winning the invasion and then got invaded yourself. It's pretty common in DS3. Otherwise I don't know what you mean. Everything else if fine. ER will always look more or less depressing compared to everything else, including DeS (somehow). The game is simply too gutted in multiplayer mechanics and too broad in size and design scope to allow for the kind of "fight to the death" feeling that's so common in previous games when an invasion ensues. The fact we went from gravelording to taunter's tongue is impressive for all the wrong reasons. Some people blame the invader community for it though, and to some extent we have to wonder how many twinks there are per honest red of the kind we see here. Not that ER fixed any of that, but at the same time, ER no longer allows for dark hand twinks to utterly humiliate hosts/phantoms/blues. It's just a shame how incompetent From has been in dealing with this problem. ER is certainly not the answer, and I hope there's another shift going forward.

As someone who playes "Fromsoft" games since Demon Souls and conciders himself a PvP veteran, I agree very much with the fact that DS3 has the best PvP. Elden Ring needs 0% skill to invade or gank. You take just one of the OP weapon arts, spam it and win. Since the DLC there´s even more broken shi* so it makes nearly no fun anymore to invest any hour in this mess. Everything is now very anime, bright and cinematic but the core of the SoulsGames got lost. I get it tho, many people love it cuz they´re blinded by the beauty of the game and how can someone judge and see the difference when it is their first Souls title. I am at a point were I simply loose my motivation to start Elden Ring again and rather go back to DS3.
