People... since the time of the release of this trailer the game didn't even have a release date and was pushed back a few times before finally releasing. Alot of things changed during development. Most of this is still in the game but altered: The forest looks like Forest of Fallen Giants, Shrine of Amana, and Shaded Woods all in one, the masked ninjas are pretty much the manikins and the mask is withered to coincide with lore (why would the mask look that shiny after all of that time has passed?) The Dragon Skeleton is most likely the Ancient Dragon in the Ancient Dragon's memory, the location with all the lava is probably what the Iron Keep was going to look like, I saw a quick shot of what looks like Dead Man's wharf man I could go on

Dark Souls 2 had allot of development issue's and what the game was envisioned to be was never the reality. If myazaki had more control I'm sure it would of been a very different game but he was busy on bloodborne and DS3. It's a real shame really, DS2 had allot of interesting changes to the dark souls formula. It's a shame very little got fleshed out. Mainly the graphics.

My high level dex assassin build is really sad about this. But atleast he has the entire Suspicious Shadow set. It took forever to farm. I dont use the shadow daggers though. They're awesome to use (dual wielding) but their range is just too short to be viable for pve let alone pvp. I use two Manikin Sabre's instead. Both are +10 and they stun lock the shit out of people. Especially with the stone ring equipped.

I love that. Most other game trailers tend to focus on how you can be this cool powerful superhero - the coolest and strongest of them all. In this trailer, the hero gets maimed, bled, burned and killed. Cries on his sword for a while and gets back up just to have it all happen again. Love it.

Also, the trailer from Dks1, when the chosen undead is walking away from the firelink bonfire and gives a thumbs up, thats clearly iron tarkus sitting next to the bonfire. However, aside from when you summon him, you never meet tarkus. (Supposedly hes dead, you find his entire gear set on a corpse next to the huge painting)

Some people say cloth physics is the reason, but I think the devs just got lazy. You can always put sheaths outside the cloth and not have to bother with coding for cloth wrapping around sheaths.

For as much as people hate on this game and love point out all the flaws, its a shame they don't ever point out the positives and potential Dark Souls 2 had. I love the lore for this game and this atmosphere built even into the trailer, dramatic and a promise of an epic yet desperate adventure. I can hardly recall how many times I've watched this trailer especially before booting up the game itself.

The only thing I'd like them to change in DS2 is storytelling. I know that most fans enjoy how mysterious and vague the story is but I find it a bit too vague. I mean, item descriptions are a nice way of presenting the lore, but IMO a bit of more open story wouldn't hurt anybody. And improve framerate. It sucked.

I agree. Even though I've played the game for hundreds of hours and I love it, the story is way too vague, and there's really no motivation to continue if you're a first timer, other than the hype carrying you around. The game has way too much speculation about what's the actual story and the vagueness gets a little boring sometimes. What I don't understand is that some people praise the story. It's really nothing special, it's only lore and setting, and it's not the best I've seen. It's good, nonetheless.

To anyone looking for comparison in terms of trailer and actual gameplay: The armor the Chosen Undead is wearing is the Faraam set. It looks exactly as it does in the trailer and you get it in the late game. The Manikin set you also get a bit later, it looks similar, but not exactly the same. As for the Dragons, you do fight them in this game but they're red instead of a dull blue.

It's a great game. A few issues, and it doesn't have the characters of the first (with a few exceptions, like Vendrick and SIr Alonne), but it's still the same Souls we all know and love. It's definitely a little bit unimaginative when it comes to the design of enemies, but again, it's still great. I still have a lot of fun with it, although I do enjoy the first one a little more.

DS2 is a good game, but.... you'll be disappointed with it if you compare it to DS1. Better off thinking of it as an expansion pack with lots of bosses (most a bit poor) and plain, linear levels (it's not an open world game like DS1). The story is muddled and the characters are forgettable, but the gameplay is still ok (even if they did sort of ruin the parry system). Worth buying second hand but not at full retail price.

+david proctor this trailer was released in 2012, it was still in development. the mask was changed and put in game but the enemies were made headless and honestly they look better headless. the dragon is the Ancient Dragon in development too, he was much smaller then he was now.

When has a trailer ever been 100% to the actual game? Maybe from soft just didn't like that mask on those enemies and went with the new one... and with the dragons you do fight a lot of dragon like enemies in a similar looking place later on.

there's no need to be nasty with this game, i understand that many of u "nostalgic hardcore kick ass souls gamers who beated dark souls 1 on ng+7000 and that completed every questline" are angry cause the game is easy. beside the difficulty this game have's a great story full of surprises and many diffrent enemies compared to the 1st one. in dark souls 1 you were always around a castle( wich i liked) and the enemies were nearly all the same, in ds2 you visit alot of diffrent places with diffrent enemies and it feels like if you're in a magic world that changes every time. i know the pvp is bad and that most of the bosses are easy but at least lets not make ds2 feel like a horrible game.
