"A balance, a harmonie of strengh, faith and wisdom had crafted Artorias into a devastating weapon of Londran." That sentance is actually very clever ( and very well written by the way ) considering the fact that these are the most important characteristics that you need in order to wield his sword. Well done sir, well done indeed.

fun fact: hideki miyazaki was inspired by the manga berserk, For Artorias almost represents guts, both Artorias and Guts are battle harden warriors, he wields a giant great sword that no normal human can wield, though not cut off he cannot use his left hand, guts has a fake left arm. And both are consumed by some darkness that puts them in a blind rage attacking anybody friend or foe.

I don't know that a film would do it justice, perhaps a book, but it'd end up being dumbed down by hollywood i think. They'd make it into a generic action movie in which "the chosen one" has to use magic and combat to kill zombies and save the kingdom. Perhaps a series of movies would allow them the room to tell such a deep story. I think the personal triumphs you make throughout the game give you the special connection with the story and those involved, you feel how oppressive the world has become, I don't think you could capture that in the same way the game does. I absolutely adore the Dark Souls story though and it'd be pretty awesome to read books explicitly detailing the events that lead up to the current lordran, the details of each character's involvement. I don't read books very often but i'd read the shit out of that.
@THERADRUSSIAN11410 жыл бұрын
A book series would be better. I've read more books than I've seen movies, and the movie version of a book is always worse. The book version tells the story better. They don't take 2 or three hours to read, so there more room for story.

I refused to believe Artorias was mauled down by Manu :'( He and sif were swarmed by creatures of the abyss, in order to save sif he put his shield down to form an protective aura around sif. In hopes of luring the creatures away from sif, Artorias swings his cursed sword bravely but without his shield the knight becomes tainted even more for each steps he takes on his way up to the surface. I've watched this way back, dark souls became one of my favorite games to play. I got pretty good at it, upgrading armor and weapons with titanite. My late friend showed me this, and we shared our journey together. Ornstein was his favorite, mine was Artorias. I felt fulfilled playing this with him, we were like children again, fascinated by fantasy, and swords thanks to Dark Souls. He was my best friend, someone I'd consider nearly as a brother, each time I play Dark Souls, I get emotional. In Dark Souls 3, after defeating the Nameless King, and finding the Dragonslayer Armor in the area after it's unlocked. I nearly cried, he would have been ecstatic to see that From Software went all nostalgic for the fans. I realized that the roles had changed, he was my Artorias, and I was his Ornstein. I apologize for the comment, and getting all emotional. Dark Souls brought me closer to him, and I regret so many things that were left unsaid, its been a long year. I never truly moved on, and I miss him dearly. You're in the darkness, perhaps afraid, or maybe even waiting. You're alone, but one day, I hope, I will get to see you. Rest in peace my friend. Goodbye, for now. Thank you, Terramantis for the great video. It's still my favorite video on youtube.
@seanwegner99257 жыл бұрын
"A Hunter is never alone." That's a quote from Bloodborne but you can replace Hunter with Knight or whatever and it works for Dark Souls. Thanks for sharing your story and I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you find solace and peace sometime soon, fellow struggler! Keep on struggling!

Absolutely beautiful. Including the detail that Artorias was left handed. You deserve a medal
@ThEN003tr0ll8 жыл бұрын
How is his left arm broken if he is left handed, a shield is always placed in the non dormant hand therefore it does not make sense he is left handed, this is because he broke his arm using his great-shield, his left arm broke due to the pressure the shield placed on it.

+Boba Fett He is the person on the cover art of the US version. He wields his greatsword in his left hand, and his shield in his right. His right arm was, in theory either broken by himself while fighting his corruption or during his trials in the abyss.

+Ashton Hornbeck Sorry, I meant left arm was broken
@Elmo9145 жыл бұрын
@@ThEN003tr0ll Not necessarily, if that was the case then the majestic greatsword in dark souls 2 wouldn't be left handed. The pauldron on his left hand proves that he his left handed. As sword arms required more protection. It's more like he shielded sif with his right and tried to block whatever abyssal nightmare from himself with his left hand holding his sword.

Spider Slayer 5 I agree! This video exemplifies Dark Souls' lore: obscure, deep, intricate. It also shows in a way the essence of Dark Souls, and many other things in life: an epic battle against overwhelming odds. Even the greatest of champions can fail, only an unbreakable will can bring victory. But even fallen heroes serve as an inspiration to the ones still standing, strengthening the flame in their hearts.

I don't think it's entirely true that Artorias never slew a Darkwraith. Clearly he had a hand in fighting back the Darkwraiths of New Londo. He had to make a covenant with the denizens of the Abyss (likely Kaathe) to do so (hence the ring, Covenant of Artorias), and that in turn cursed his sword into the Cursed Greatsword of Artorias that is acquirable by the player. He was given a Silver Pendant to help him fight off the dark for his efforts in New Londo, similar to the one the player can get in Oolacile. THAT is what gave him the title of 'Abysswalker', not the Oolacile ordeal. He was chosen to deal with the Abyss overtaking Oolacile BECAUSE he was the Abysswalker.
@Dracus38510 жыл бұрын
it's not totally sure or clear if artorias was really involved to fight the darkwraith as the gate's keepers(maybe minus the one found in blightown, the girl) flooded new londo before everything had gone too wild(i doubt that Artorias would let that happens without doing something)

See if I get this right: You fight Artorias completely insane and weakened by the abyss, without His greatshield, without Sif, with damaged armor and sword by the looks of Him and as of Dark Souls 2 the dude was left-handed so He fought You (fucked You up repeatedly) with His non-sword hand too?!... Then ask yourself, if Manus deafeated Artorias and cast him back out of the Abyss, how strong must Manus have been originally? Perhaps he too was weakened by their battle, such that the chosen undead did naught but build upon Artorias' handiwork.
@celix4n10 жыл бұрын
Kalm15 ...Wow, I didn`t even think about that. In fact You`re probably completely right, if Manus wasn`t weakened I doubt the Chosen Undead would`ve beaten Him in the first place. Although, Manus did have an extreme advantage against Artorias with the fight being in His domain and Artorias natural weakness to darkness (Which the chosen undead lacks). Not to mention We all know how cheap darkbead is and Artorias was missing His greatshield too when He REALLY needed it.

this is the best video you have ever made mate, artorias' lore is epic by itself but the way you explain and touch different point of views, those are the way making this video special !

8 years later and this is still the best video about Artorias. I love Vatti, but the pure storytelling here is unparred. 'We cried anthem' is still one of my all time favorites. 15/10.

I admire the way you did this video... separating the legend from the reality, and then tying it all together with such emotional power. I had chills for the duration of Part III. Thank you for this well-thought and touching explanation of the lore surrounding Sir Artorias.

Also I really have to ask, why flip the video around and make Artorias left handed?
@TerraMantis10 жыл бұрын
MrDanteBurns The inverted footage was only done during the "legend' section of the video or when the portions of the video are simply parable; a parable of a warrior for the light that died facing the dark. It was supposed to represent that a legend or a tale can mirror truth, but even a mirror is not an entirely accurate version of reality. Most people believe I did it to show that he was originally left-handed (as is popular belief) but wields his sword in his right hand during the boss fight due to the fact that his left arm was broken while in the Abyss. In truth, whenever I show Artorias and I'm speaking about "the legend" (across any of my videos) aspect of him I always invert the footage to make it feel slightly off, even before I posed the idea that he was left-handed in my 10 Things video.
