Saw you in the blade show videos. I said hey, that's Jim! 👍 I love the little divot FOBOS puts on their knives for ferro rod striking. I always find knives perform much better after a few hand sharpenings. I think companies will use belt-type sharpeners for the initial edge, which can weaken it.

Cool! Eric Outer's video? Which video? The Dark Timber or the FOBOS? I've got my own Blade Show video to put it... probably the video after next. 😅

@@highcountrychronicles I think it was the dark timber booth. You were standing there in the crowd, and I recognized you.

@@sinepari9160 nice. Yeah, that would have been when I picked up the knife. I had a low number this year.

Appreciate the video review, sub'd! One thing I've found for myself is too much stropping can actually be counterproductive. At least if you're as clumsy and heavy handed as I can be! For me, i usually just do 3-4 passes once on each side with the green with just the weight of the blade when I finally find the angle. Like you said, a lot more steel can come off the edge than people, myself included quite often, realize. Thanks again for the video!

@@mikeyeaton1914 Thanks! 👍🏾 Yeah I was definitely a little clumsy. I typically don't strop. I usually just take a few strokes on a ceramic rod and call it done or sharpen on a wicked edge.

Good afternoon! I just found and subscribed to your channel. I'm enroute to Mount Tam and hike around the Pantool campground. Thank you for the inspiration 👌🏽

such a cool blade. when i strop on a flexible strop (straight razors) i try to keep the strop as tight as possible. if its too loose you can start to roll your edge. probably not as big a concern on a full size knife but id still keep it as taught as i can

@@bigvisk1125 Thanks! I tried to do that on the first round, which is probably why it worked better first time out. Then I got a bit rushed and lazy. 😓

Are you bringing a companion knife or an axe also? Or is this the only edged tool that you are bringing on your adventure?
@highcountrychronicles
@highcountrychronicles 2 ай бұрын
@@shawns8538 I typically say I have 2, a larger knife and a Dark Timber Tavi but I always have a least 3 if you include the multi tool I carry and sometimes I'll carry a chopper or kukri as well as a belt knife for 4. (Though I don't think of it that way.) On this trip I had 3. The multi tool and Tavi never leave my pack. The Crow never leaves my hip.
