She used to babysit his older siblings as well, and I used to also play with Sybil and Sherene. Very talented man, who comes from talented parents. It's ok to admit the student outshined the master. Whitney surpassed Aretha and there is nothing wrong with that. Aretha knew that even though she would have never admitted it. Narada Walden said that when he was producing the duet with Whitney and Aretha, Whitney recorded her vocals, while Aretha did 7 or 8 takes. Aretha gave her the cold shoulder after Whitney was done singing her part

Many people have a greater vocal range than Whitney. Beyoncé and Christina Aguilera for example. But range isnt what made Whitneys voice so special. It was her tone, belting power, vibrato, angelic and operatic head voice and her vocal genius i.e her musicianship and utilization of all these aspects ive mentioned in a musically intelligent way. All of these things combined is what made her better than them all. Not vocal range. She tops out at 3 octaves of range. Beyonce has just under 4, Xtina just over 4 for example. Range is not what makes a good singer. Its just one of the elements that can contribute to it.

But Whitney matches or exceeds her in just about every other technical vocal metric. Plus in terms of subjective factors like tone and conviction Whitney eats her up.

That track was apart of demos that Left Eye had presented to LaFace for “Fan Mail.” But L.A. denied it to be spiteful because he and Lisa weren’t seeing eye to eye about the album and her solo album. WHITney has better control and vocal clarity than any singer ive heard .... her technique was flawless.... Mariah although impressive range, lacked the technique and control of Whitney .... This is crazy! I was just reading a book called "On My Way to Hollywood", written by an actor named Roman Castle about how he was at the studio session with Whitney and Rodney Jerkins. I was rolling because he said Rodney asked him to sing for him on the side. That book had me cracking up. The part about Whitney going off on Robyn made me laugh too. Whitney was so RAW! RIP.
