The general idea is it is better to experience a strong base line with stock parts before switching things up. It can skew your perception of performance gains and/or fine adjustments as they pertain to RC racing.

I just bought my first rc car and haven't received it yet. Rustler 4x4. I don't know shit about cars in general, let alone rc cars. I've been going through KZbin and emailing rc stores trying to get info on maintenance and this video is by far the best one I've seen. So much detail and exact directions. I've been terrified about having to do any maintenance, but this video made me feel 100% better! Thank you so much.

One of the best diff oil change instructions I've seen yet and I'm glad traxxas made their diffs maintenance friendly with all the groves and notches inside so it's easier for a casual hobbyist to put everything back in the right place. Not all RC brand does that.

Thanks for the reply on the greases.. Your video's are excellent and informative. You're definitely an asset to the RC world ! Traxxas, if your'e reading this, you should sort this man out a free car here and there, without his clear and precise video's i for starters wouldn't have delved into this hobby as much ! (Buying my fourth traxxas car and only got into this at Christmas lol)

Julian UK I totally agree. I just bought a Traxxas UDR and also have a TRX4...but I’m relatively new to the hobby. I am a believer in maintenance and want to do a good job, but the Traxxas manuals, although good in most respects, are kinda lacking in the maintenance area in regards to beginners. In general terms it says to do this and do that, but nowhere are there detailed “how-to” steps or videos. I have been watching hundreds of KZbin videos trying to figure out how to change Diff fluid....and this video is the first to walk me through it. The only comment I would make is that perhaps you should point out that Diff fluid is generally very thick...almost like honey. I had no idea....

This is an exemplary video. You have the gift of teaching, as demonstrated by the unusually thorough and clear instructions. There are so many long-winded how-to videos out there that it was refreshing how respectful you were of our TIME. Even though the video was more than twice as long as other videos on the same topic, it SEEMED shorter. You didn't waste our time by trying to be entertaining, sharing irrelevant anecdotes, or showing unnecessary steps (e.g. removing screws) like many other KZbinrs. I've been nervous about taking apart the front diff on my Slash 4x4, but now I'm not, thanks to you.

For my stampede, i use marine grease in the case, but in the rear differential, i recently put 20 million weight fluid in. Its like putty. Basically turned my rear into a pretty tight limited slip. Its starting to loosen up just a bit, but its still pretty tight. Its great in the dirt, And will do a full on wheelie on one wheel.

Although I’m fairly new to RC, the same principle should apply... I’ve done my fair share of auto mechanics in my day and one thing I have learned and definitely want to pass on, STOP using WD-40 as a parts cleaner! Though it’s effective, it’s a penetrating oil. This means it has properties that will destroy rubber, plastic and nylon seals over time.. it’s also not very good for the metal parts either... my suggestion is to switch to an automotive parts cleaner which come in liquid and aerosol form. This will greatly improve parts longevity... Everything else, instructionally, is absolutely awesome information!

So watching your video I take it someone had it apart before and had the washer behind the wrong seal on the front. At about 7:40 you pull the gear out of the diff housing and I never notice you switching gears, but that one did not have the washer. Great video, I plan on doing mine this weekend, and just want to make sure I done mess it up. Seems pretty straight forward.

Watch that you don't spray wd40 in your bearings. It will remove lube or grease that's in the bearings, it will make wear out. Just wipe off and add bearing oil. Most can just be wiped off with the coffee filter. Cheers! Nice video!

Merry Christmas...great vid. As far as clean up goes...you said you use wd-40. Can you let me know what type of wd-40 as they have a few different types. Also do you have a video on how you actually all these parts up? I am imagining spraying these parts, oil flying all over, and wiping down, etc etc. Sounds fun and looking forward to doing it but just wanted to see your process to pick up some "tribal Knowledge." :-) Appreciate it.
