Awesome video! Just a recommendation for anyone doing this repair, you should be lightly greasing all of the o-rings and all of the components during the rebuild. It helps keep dirt out and makes a better seal at the rings.

I do not have a Merv but I can appreciate all time put into this video for others. Notice when he was putting the first diff back on he had rockers on then showed a shot after wards of him putting it on with rockers off. Showing how to do it either way. That is very thoughtful. Thank you.

For anyone that has it, I suggest you use acetone to clean all the METAL parts. It helps clean it up a lot, and you just have to dip the parts in, wait a couple minutes, pull it out and give it a good wipe!

Wondering the same thing here. Also how do you know if these need shimmed or not? Wish someone would answer.
@Destirb7 жыл бұрын
Shim your diffs, it makes them stronger and it wont strip
@isaaclyonsf16 жыл бұрын
Bastian, it pushes the diff gears together, so that they won't strip out.
@acereport89395 жыл бұрын
Ben Pyka They start “clicking” and using some shims seems to fix the problem. It may be more of an issue with the VXL versions as mine were “clicking” the first day on 2 different 1/16 brand new vehicles straight out of the box. The hobby store I got them from recommended using some shims and it’s been working for years, however, that “clicking” recently returned. I’m debating weather or not I should invest in an aftermarket differential or maybe even an aluminum diff housing as I’ve already got some shims in the original diff.

I just bought a Mini e-revo, do you think I should shim it, idk if Traxxas ever fixed the problem or not, Thanks!
@TheBaconator21213 жыл бұрын
Yes you should definitely shim the diffs. Traxxas has not yet fixed this issue, and there is not much aftermarket options for diffs in the traxxas 1/16 models. As soon as you start running on 2 or 3s lipo, the diffs will likely strip eventually. Another thing that may help is to install a center differential into your car. It will help limit the power going to the rear wheels. This also makes the car handle a decent bit better, but unfortunately will stop the wheelies unless you use a high viscosity fluid in the center diff. Not mandatory though :)

im looking for the e-revo vxl 1/16 differential housing. Had a very hard front impact and the two ends that goes inside the chasis area where the diferential join broke apart and lost front differential and support. Do you know where I can find it?
@SteelCityRC8 жыл бұрын
If the diff gears in my merv are making a slight grinding noise on heavy acceleration will the gears need replaced or will shimming take care of the issue? It is alot of work for them to grind still after shimming and reinstalling. Also I didn't see you shim the front diff. Is it not necessary? Great video BTW!!
@darkeclipticheart8 жыл бұрын
Gorley's Garage In The front differential I tend to use just one shim. In the back I tend to use two. I am not too sure if shimming will get rid of the grinding. It could be a couple things causing that. My guess would be that the diff housing is warped in one way or another and the gears aren't aligned properly. There is a good chance that shimming will take care of the problem but I won't guarantee it.
@SteelCityRC8 жыл бұрын
darkeclipticheart Thanks man! I am more into my 5th scale but love all the tricks I can do with the merv. The grinding is very minimal and I haven't ran it since that day it started. Hate to be a pain but what shims did you use?
