"Cod has always been an arcade shooter" i hear the chronically online children scream as they backside 360 tripple summersault kickflip cross map noob tube down a flight of stairs. But clips like this perfectly capture what call of duty was, and how far its fallen. Every time someone defends the "its an arcade shooter" view (which by the way, isnt even a real bloody thing outside of ACTUAL arcades), they seem to magically forget about the campaigns cod is famous for. Gritty stories. Brutal and tragic themes. Betrayal. Lots of blood and death. Oh and dont forget the WAR CRIMES. People these days seem to think of call of duty only as its multiplayer. Which it is now, but it never used to be. People loved cod for its story, characters, and superb world building. Theres NOTHING arcade about that.
@harunoderso3 ай бұрын
The multiplayer has always been like that but you are talking about the campaign which doesn't have much in common with the online experience
@lawrencemorris22612 ай бұрын
There's multiple angles to hating the arcade shooter barking. For me, it's the fact that that's used as an excuse to reduce the realism and immersive experience of the multiplayer part of the game.
@svenskhund3603Ай бұрын
@@harunoderso Theres the gameplay of an arcade shooter, then theres aesthetics of an arcade shooter. Cod was all gameplay and none of the aethetics of arcade shooters. Only these modern COD games can be touted as having completely departed from the original identity of the franchise. They commercialized the franchise for microtransactions using development time and resources just to sell their players nonsensical skins and operators that straight up dont belong in a cod game. They settle with releasing an unfinished game every year just to keep their whales placated enough to drop amother 20 bucks on some anime titties on their sniper. The tone and narrative of the franchise started its shift back in MW2 to be more like an action-movie, but they didn't let that change how the multiplayer was for multiple cod releases after the fact. When Cod tried emulating both Rainbow Six Seige with operators or heros and Fornite through battle passes and battle royals they killed their identity to chase the white rabbit that is profitting off of microtransactions in a fully priced triple A game.
