A swarm of forty or fifty could be used as an anti stealth multi focal radar. These are going to be very useful.

More likely, they would be used alongside stealth aircraft, artillery and cruise missiles to priovide accurate targeting information directly through a datalink, with no need for a human spotter to provide coordinates manually. Artillery, cruise missiles and and F35's could then keep a "lock" on a target as small as a human soldier, from 100km away. Imagine if one of these is used to track the location of an officer, like a colonel, walking within his camp, thinking he's safe. Then suddenly out of nowhere, a 250lbs semi-guided glide bomb hits precisely his location, launched from an F35 50km away. Half a second later, most of the rest of the nearby officers suffer the same fate.

@@Administrator_O-5 If the control unit is equipped with a data link, it (the control unit) would be perfectly able to relay enough information to a data network that in turn can provide real-time targeting data to an F35. If this is automatic, and the software of the control unit supports it, a "lock" on a target should show up in the sensor fusion software of the F35 instantly. Within a few secons, the pilot could authorize a launch of a GBU-53 or similar munition. If we assume a flight speed of about 200knots, the bomb should hit the target within ~15 minutes, plenty of time with a 25 minute battery on the drone. Also, with 2 drones available in a set, extending the 25 mins to around 45 is just a software thing. Why do you think the US army required the datalink to be added to the US version, in the first place?

@@Administrator_O-5 All of those are vulnerable to enemy air defences. A tiny stealth drone can be operated by a team of Delta or Rangers from a relatively safe location for all sorts of missions, including decapitation and SEAD/DEAD missions.

There are many mini drones available to civilians for less than $150 per unit that could fulfill at least part of the role these expensive drones do; like advance scouting and clearing compounds. The hi-tech abilities like heat sensors and night vision are great but not always needed to save lives and keep soldiers from walking into ambushes. I have heard many stories of urban combat where the location of enemy soldiers ended up being much closer than a squad thought. One had four Navy SEALs run up to a wall to use it for cover only to discover the enemy was on the other side and not further down the road. A simple small pocket drone would have allowed them to see where the enemy was before moving and avoid the casualties they suffered. No need for a $200k drone when $150 will do the job.
@ApusApus
@ApusApus 2 жыл бұрын
The price goes up on terms like Silent, 25min runtime, encrypted data link (most likely off comercial frequencies so price++), and a large part of the cost is the remote. 150$ chinese drone, if someone monitors open wi-fi or 5.8 GHz analog channels, will be spoted instantly.
@socket_error1000
@socket_error1000 2 жыл бұрын
@@ApusApus I am talking about troops walking through villages in remote areas occupied by terrorist groups and bandits. The most common military encounter for US troops today who are still fighting these types of enemies in Africa and elsewhere. These groups do not have the technological sophistication to monitor, track and retaliate against signals like other more advanced countries do. In the situations small drones would be deployed against these enemies for the purpose of real time immediate area scouting the deployment would be short, a matter of minutes, and the presence of American troops likely already known to the enemy. So the unit being completely silent is not as important as its ability to tell the troops there is a hostile fire team around the corner or over the hill. Also most of these small over the counter micro drones are very short range radio controlled devices and not long range drones. Making tracking them difficult.
@ApusApus
@ApusApus 2 жыл бұрын
@@socket_error1000 The issue with a drone being spoted (especially indoors) is that measures can be taken against it, such as hiding or trying to catch it, or attempts to jam or get the video feed can be made. In your mentioned use case something cheaper could be emplyed, but I doubt it would go below 10k per system, as cryptographics, military radio frequencies and reliability requirements will bring those costs up.
@socket_error1000
@socket_error1000 2 жыл бұрын
@@ApusApus Again those types of technologies are not in the hands of the terror groups and rebels operating on the fringe, like the middle of Africa where our guys are presently operating and an ambush a few years ago killed several soldiers who likely would have been able to spot the trap in advance with a small drone. Terrorists have used full size drones to guide car bombs down city roads and around roadblocks toward targets against US and Allied forces and our own technologies have had trouble stopping this. A micro drone used at low altitude to clear the immediate area, or inside a small structure to explore blind corners is not going to be detected or defeated by long range signals intel no terrorist groups even have. You also don't need recording software on these, just a camera to relay the image. Even if that video signal were intercepted, the enemy are looking at themselves.

A tool used in the military that saves lives rather than taking them for a change, not to mention the stress prevented on soldiers...They are probably already using explosives with the drone though...Just fly it over the the enemy and press kaboom, would probably be lethal to anyone within 2 meters of it.

@hf117j
@hf117j 2 жыл бұрын
The total price for it is probably closer to 250 to 300 bucks. 3 cameras typically for hd with lenses is between 50 and 70 each, motors probably 20 and 30 highballed, battery up to 50, and the rest probably pretty cheap. So highball for the drone itself is 320 + screws pins and frame. Then transmitter we'll assume up to 1,500 because price gouged for the screen. Even then still under 2k each.

I'm sure some of the custom body work got it to the 1k area and secure linking probably got it another $250 or $500. Case would probably be a separate cost and wast alot of rare material just throwing them off buildings to see if they beat impact specs iv seen cases like thos ego for $500 then you got the screen and controls They probably ran about 3k new. The paperwork and dev documents are probably inside a bunker lined with several feet of lead and international laws probably got one time costs way up too, but they have no business being over 10k a piece even for a starter

"Undetectable"... Yeah, sure, if it wasn't for the high pitched screeching of the rotor... There is no such thing as an "undetectable drone". It's how you make use of things that are available to you! A very small drone can get into places noone else might. Still, everyone will notice it. But if you want to stay "invisible" - stay out of reach, high up in the air! Unless there is an anti-gravity-engine, there is no way to have the best of both worlds...

Already have kamikaze drones. Imagine these being minimized and giving them a LiPO or an unstable LiOn battery. You dump a bucket out of a plane or chopper and they swarm to a target and explode. On exploding, the battery, depending on which one it uses, turns into an incendiary or a toxic smoke bomb.
